What ever people on this forum say, either believers in a "spirit" world or deniers, would'nt it be better for peace of mind to move? Your daughter has a delicate heart, I reckon nothing is worth stressing out about that could shorten our all too brief time on this planet.

about a month ago, ali and her son david, heard noises from the attic above ali's bedroom...that sounded like something was being dragged across the attic floor.

What were you doing 25 years ago today....
by Magwitch inwhen the challenger exploded?.
i was dutifully going door to door to door, when a lady came to the door crying about the cahllenger.
she invited me in and i placed a set of magazines.

Well I wasn't a baby but I had two little children and was not far off being a single dad. Add the jw lifestyle and my reaction to that disaster was shock but quickly back to the realities of my own situation.

Is there anything they can't spin?
by InterestedOne ini've been finding that jw's use clever words to slip out of anything.
case in point, the shunning statement from the interview.
as another example, i tried to ask my study conductor the following: "if a person accepts a whole blood transfusion, will they be disfellowshipped?

Even as a jw I could see that doctrine was changed on a needs basis. When I first became interested in jws there was a doctrine change around heart transplants. Originally the heart was the seat of the soul. One magazine article and whammo the heart is just a pump. I had no doubt that aging governing body members required the surgery, so made it legit. The same goes for higher education being OK at different times when the gb requires doctors nurses lawyers. When satisfied, education is a no no again. They are spin masters.

THE MOST THRILLING MOMENT of your life.....?
by Terry inhere is the most thrilling moment of my life.. i got to meet my film composer heroes john barry and miklos rosza at the beverly hills writer's guild theater for a seminar on filmmusic.. i was 30 years old at the time and going through my "you look like clint eastwood" stage.
(i'm trying to explain my crazy hair!).
i chatted with them and got them to sign my albums.. what was your most thrilling moment?.

Having an M16 shoved in my face in Sri Lanka, after being warned not to go into that particular area. The thrill was not positive....

So has the wt given up on prophecy altogether or what?
by agonus infor decades they've produced massive tomes on their own peculiar brand of wt-centric prophecy, but it seems like the production of prophecy-related material as of late has slowed to a trickle, their last prophecy-related book that i can recall was the minor-prophets book released a few years back.
however that book if i recall was very vague in its exposition, focusing on daily life application rather than eschatology.
and yet the armageddon-end-times-obedience-"generation" drumbeat grows faster and louder with less and less exposition as to how or when exactly any of this is supposed to play out.

This hasn't flowed through to the rank and file though. I just had a friend on Facebook have a chuckle as two jws knocked on his door yesterday trying to tie the floods in Australia to prophecy.
Actually, this quite profound. Once the r and f get the message that prophecy has laid too much egg on the collective jw writer's faces, so has been abandoned, what will they talk about at people's doors? Where will the "urgency" go? Kinda like the fire brigade never having to fight a fire. Eventually, you find another job.

What is the JW view of the Ichtus (Fish) christianity symbol?
by james_woods inthe thread about the cross got me to thinking about this - i think i read somewhere that the earliest known christian relic was a mosaic display of the fish symbol - which was taken as a sign of christianity.. has the watchtower ever explained why they avoid the use of this symbol?.
have they ever explained why it is ok for them to use the watchtower as a symbol but not this?.

I thought it was because Jesus supposedly said "become fishers of men" e.g. Jesus had caught you, so you have a fish symbol to identify you as christian....

by Witness 007 ina self serving, self rightoues, judgemental fool who's favourite swear word is "fudge" did you know any "flanders" types at the kingdom hall.
we had a special pioneer who would mention "the wonders of jehovah's creation"...while we were cleaning the kingdom hall toilets!!!

Absolutely had one!!
Mustache, speech impediment, OCD. The only difference was that Ned Flanders has a heart and a conscience.

Discovering Mortality
by pirata inmost of my life i never gave thought to my mortality because i'd be petting a lion forever in the new system.
my hobby could wait because i would have time to pursue it as a perfect being in a paradise.
dying was not a huge deal because i'd wake up in a paradise earth.. then i woke up.

Great quotes. I came to these conclusions post jws, just by reasoning.
Also, I literally had a dream that I was protecting children from "demons" in an ancient village. I started to lose a sword duel and felt calmness, as my lasts thoughts were "what an honourable way to die!"
Opned my eyes to the warrior mindset and moral code.

If you could ask one question to an active JW to get them to open their mind about their beliefs, what would it be?
by Franklin Massey inthis question was posed to me by a poster named ice cream.
i don't know my answer yet.
it's one of those, "if you could have just one wish.." kind of questions.

How do you refute the clear evidence from ice core drilling that there never was a world wide flood? Also the earth was never a hothouse as stated by jws as being the climate a few thousand yrs ago "pre flood"?

In your hall, how many converted to a JW from door to door in the last 10 years?
by just n from bethel inin mine that would be a big fat zero.. there have been a handful of teenage baptisms of jw children.. one that really was a foreign language group transfer.. but in the last ten years - there has not been one single convert from the d2d ministry.. btw - my congregation has had over 10 pioneers (real ones that actually do d2d, including elders) for the last decade.. not one.
10 x 70 hours a month x 120 months = 84,000 hours ... results = 0.. also most of our pioneers are pretty good at the door - some half way decent teachers.
one is sub co and another often is called to teach ... wait for it ... pioneer school!!!.

Times have changed so much. No longer is it acceptable to just approach someone's home and expect a welcome listening ear. How many door to door salespeople are there still? Sheesh, even the telephone sales people are getting the hint, our homes are private and we choose who figuratively comes into it.
There is much more power in what someone does in their day to day interaction, rather than what they say/preach. People observe and are curious if someone appears contented with their beliefs and lifestyle e.g. relatives workmates, so they ask why?
That is why the witnesses are failing
