Well a conviction is a firmly held belief so besides the basics of physics, I have no firmly held beliefs. Why? Because everything changes whether we like it or not.
For a start look at jws. What was a firmly held belief in 1870 wouldn't be recognised today. Actually what was a firmly held belief in 1990 wouldn't be recognised today.
I attempt to gather as much evidence as possible before deciding if something is "believable". That includes experiencing as well as reading etc.
Am I happier with my new convictions post jw? OMG... I finally threw off their bullshit (new personality) and became the person I was born to be. -

What happened in 1995?
by pale.emperor ini was born in 1984 so was only 9yo in 1995. i read on various posts on here and on other websites about false expectations about 1975 and 1995. i'm aware of the 1975 failure but what was said in 1995?.

I remember reading that article and going WTF? I went and spoke to jw friends who were elders etc. Their response, "What change?" It hit me like a hammer that most jws don't even know their basic doctrines. As noted above by other posters most appear to be asleep with their eyes open at the meetings.
I can thank this article for stimulating me to research the jw CD on "generation". I never set foot in a "kingdom hall" again.

Help/Advice on Birthday Present
by Phizzy ini have a very xjw type problem, i am invited to my cousin's 70th birthday party, and really don't know what to buy him.. i only met him a couple of months ago, as my jw parents never encouraged the non-jw side of the family, so i don't know much about him, except that he is retired and his hobby is sailing his boat.. i don't have contact details for his kids etc to ask them for ideas, so could you come up with something please ?
not too extravagant, i am a poor pensioner !
but, it is his 70th.. thanks in advance for any tips !.

The saddest song of all time?
by Bad_Wolf ini would pick this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th2w6oxx0kq.
i don't know how so many are happy or fine if thinking this life is it.
haven't lost parents yet, but when with them, sometimes i'll think of this song.

Oh dear
I knew Eddie Sawden very very well at that time. We became involved with the Jehovah's Witnesses at the same time but slightly different congregations and we had surfing in common. He was an extreme character with strict dietary rules and was very outspoken about food etc.
I assume I know the victim but will not give any details. This is a good example of how poorly the JWs handle sexual abuse and the pain has continued for the victim for 40 yrs
