Geez FTS you brought back some memories. For the life of me I can't remember the guys name but he was a missionary in New Guinea and Indonesia and he was on the Lightbearer. I wish now that I had asked him more about those old days. I remember him telling a story about a cong servant who had secretly kept up his ancestor worship. No one believed his wife until he got "possessed" and was running through the jungle ( with a green light over his head, the missionary saw it!) pulling out banana trees in a frenzy!! Another time he was crossing a river and a local brother said if you touch that rock you will have twins. Two pioneers rubbed the rock for a joke and both had twins... I think the biggest and most faith shaking experience for him was seeing a dead person rise up under the guidance of a Hindu priest and walk in Bali! Looking back, despite him being an elder etc I wonder if he really believed the Watchtower society and that he just hung in due to putting in so many years. He was a gentle soul who never hassled or hammered anyone. Yes he would be long dead I'm sure.

Fiji Bethel Scandal
by Mattieu indoes anyone remember the scandal that rocked fiji in appx early 1992?
i have searched this site and found no reference to it.
so, hoping someone here might remember the finer details and whatever happened to the guilty culprits....... my best mate was in the australian bethel at the time, and on a trip back home to melbourne he caught up with me and told me most of the details.

Richard Dawkins Fail...

Controversy is always good just before a book release, as there's no such thing as bad press.
He is clearly being inflammatory. Despite all the jokes about private schools in the UK over the decades, I would imagine if this teacher had been outed for playing with little boy's penises in the 1950's he would have had a bleak (and limited) future. And of course what pedo stops at this stage of grooming? I'm sure there were dozens of poor kids who copped worse.

Aust. Election in 1 week - A review of Kevin Rudd, PM
by fulltimestudent ini'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.
if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

Jeffro covers my opinion.
Funny FTS, you won't vote but you have a clear political stance against KRudd.

The (ancient) globalised world - Ancient Israel imported cinnamon from India
by fulltimestudent inone of my specific interests (when i started at university) was the interconnectiveness of the ancient world.
and the more i've learned in the past 6 years, the more i've seen that the ancient euro/asian world was connected.
a network of trading routes and markets exchanged goods and wealth, and along with the traded items went traded ideas and concepts.

While wandering through a museum in Bangkok, I was stunned to see a Roman oil lamp! It was still being used for lighting in a Buddhist temple up to a hundred years ago. It is believed to have been traded along the Silk Road over the centuries.

Yeah it's funny as I had forgotten so much. Now I thought about it, we had a jw connection. Her mother (when they came to Australia) became a jw! She studied and was close to baptism. Imagine our shock when we finally spoke of this! It's a small world sometimes.
Geez now I want to look her up.

I went out with a woman who looked like JayLo's lost twin and yes she was rich as well. The funny thing was the reaction of other people. People would stare and whisper, women would throw daggers eyes as their men ogled. Then they would look at me and their faces showed WTF? LOL Well the women did, the men faces were you lucky lucky bastard. When we went out she would wear these massive, flashing diamond earrings she inherited from her grandmother who lived in South America. This just added to the mystic. To answer Diana Netherton, yes I felt intimidated by the attention we got sometimes but never by her sharp intelligence. I'm sure that's why she was attracted to me (not intimidated by her).

"fortunate are those who have learned to see, in the wild things of nature, something to be loved, something to be wondered at, something to be reverenced, for they have found the key to a never-failing source of recreation and refreshment".

Curious about twin research - Ongoing research - Karolinska Institute
Ta LV101!
A quick google search brought this up but it's not the (direct) study that referred to twins and differing life outcomes e.e. one twin having depression and the other no illness but never the less a great read which leads to even more research...
