life's fragile
by doofdaddy ini just got back today from a month in sri lanka and it was nearly my last trip!
caught a viral fever while volunteering at a hospital for tsunami victims.
long story but if it wasn't for a young english med student, i could be a statistic now.. this experience has taught me how precious and fragile life is and how easy it can disappear.

which JEHOVAH'S WITNESS SCARE TACTICS kept you from leaving?
by Ms. Whip inmeeting jehovah's witnesses at your door was a fresh, new experience.
they were nice, friendly and smiled real big.
along with your bible study you received an instant life.

Ok I do admit one fear tactic that did work and you guys reminded me. Trust. All those years of indoctrination about evil worldly people had my trust count at zero. Didn't stop me from leaving but had me on the back foot with friendship for years. Had aquantances but not real pals. Same with girlfriends. I couldn't open up to love and trust for years.

Just arrived home tonight. Feeling pretty weak but nearly kissed the ground at Brisbane airport, two day trip home...
Man the cricket! The English doctor dragged me to the Colombo cricket club to watch the last test. I'm feeling seedy and he's rubbing it in with every wicket. He was pissed at the draw. Wanted to kill the Kiwi umpire. Think he went blind on that lbw I must admit. Otherwise great season(yes the other Poms rubbed in the win)

Would you go back?
by Stress Free inwhen i was an active witness it was quite noticeable that when world shattering events took place, such as a disaster, tensions between major nations, war in iraq or events like that of 9/11 the meeting attendance would drastically improve.
this was mainly due to ones whom you rarely saw flocking back because they thought armageddon was coming.
what if this almost impossible scenario occurred.

If the UN banned religion, I would put on free beer for a week, then get an easy chair outside the nearest kh and watch the circus. I'd rather eat shit than go back to those self righteous liars. (Feeling feisty tonight!!!)

Thanks Paul
Yeah at one point we were racing down this windy road through tea plantations heading to a hospital and we came to this village. I couldn't talk but remember seeing this village in a dream and in the dream I died......My friend the med student was shaking me so I wouldn't go out to it. That was the lowest point.

Gotta be honest Ms Whip, I believed it until the day that article on the generation came out in the nineties. Never stepped in a hall again as I simply didn't believe any more. Scare tactics don't work for me.

This experience has taught me how precious and fragile life is and how easy it can disappear. I also must say that a pentacostal couple took me in and took care of me after the hospital, a doctor and his wife also from the UK. Real christians.
It may sound corny but I missed this discussion forum too, just couldn't access decent email facilities!!
Great to be back.

How many of you consider yourselves Pagan?
by FreedomFrog ini've started on a path that is very comfortable for me almost a year ago.
and now i'm wanting to see how many believe a similar way.. i looked into wiccan, celtic, eclectic and other forms of pagan.
i think that i've settled down into shamanism since that was the path my grandfather went.

The New Shorter Oxford English dictionary goes in to a detailed explanation of the word pagan. Here's a little...
Pagan rural of the country, heathen A person holding religious beliefs other then the main religions of the world. spec. a non christian.
A person holding views not consonant with a prevailing system of belief etc (now rare)
A quote
In pagan antiquity every tree had its own guardian spirit, genius_loci
Worth a read.
