  right so i have a younger cousin that works with me (helped him get a job with my company because in s.a you gotto pray you know someone who can help you get a job).

  as you know i've left the borg - he's still very much into it.

  so yesturday myself, him & a mutual college go off for a lunch at the keg - we order our food and when it comes, he bows his head and prays....silenty - the waitress comes over and thinks he's fallen asleep (narcarpsy sp???

  Sweet T - That is commendable (gosh I sound like an elder) But it's like he's trying to make a deliberate point.

  Luna - he'd bow his head for ages....while we sit and wait - cos we don't want to be rude and eat without him

  You know what words also spring to mind - I think it's in the book of Matt where Jesus is saying If you do something in public your reward will be in full & men will glorify you, but rather do something in private where no one sees but the Father,

  Starting diet again.

  i have started my diet two days ago because eating too many nuts and chocolates over a couple of months made me gain quite a bit of weight.

  now i have to lose 10kg (22 pounds)and in this diet i will be doing 1800 calories per day and go for a one hour walk along the beach.

  no chocolates, biscuits, cakes, crisps (chips) or nuts and i should be on target by mid september.

  Greendawn - the question for me is WHAT diet haven't I tried. I've done injections, pills, milkshakes, diets to blood type, squished & rolled, dr atkins, dr cohen - you name it I've done it.

  Best one I ever was on - which is quite strict - cut out cards and follow a protein low fat diet. I'll give you a breakdown of the diet if you want - it's strict but it works if you stick to it doll ( I lost 18 kgs in 2 months on this diet!!!!!) I'll pm you tomorrow.

  At last finished reading Crisis of Conscience

  and what an eye opener it was...dont get me wrong i faded some 10 years ago and the reasons for such were contained in the book, i.e 1914, failed prophecies and so forth.. the expose is disarming by its objective style and whilst i now read any literature through sceptical eyes i could see a person genuinely grieved by what had taken place and the crisis he was subjected to conscientiously; it said it all to me when he said that his aim was not to divert people from the jws but give them support so they could develop as christians and therefore allow them to come to their own conclusions (or words to that effect).. extremely well written and consise with reams of references (which i happen to love).. anyone that is recently out must read this book...it objective, honest and was totally surprising in parts.. db74

  Greendawn - I've been recently reading on how the GB would make decisions. There were 17 around about the time R.Franz was on board and he said that when they would take a vote - even if it was in the majority of say doing alternative military service it wasn't good enough - it had to be a 2/3ds' majority - Some GB brothers' wouldn't vote, some wouldn't even attend. And he mentions a time when they had the 2/3rds' majority (to change something for the benefit of the brothers) They had a 't'break and when they came back the 1 brother jumped sides and shifted the vote to majority but not 2/3rds.

  Funny how we were taught not to be political and yet the GB seem to be corrupt politicians in the making.

  i have been a regular visitor to this forum for the past 2 years or so, finally i got the courage to register.. you guys are an inspiration , your stories and experiences have helped me to take a stand against this controlling org.. in short, i was raised from birth as a jw, parents are from the old school very much hard liners, the society is their god.

  is expected of you, get baptised as a teenager become a ms then elder.

  i always had my doubts about the society and its teachings but was.

  some might see that after hundreds of years of argument and controversy no two people interpret the damn thing exactly the same, and so they have acquired the wisdom to abandon it.

  Does It Mean One Religion?

  at ephesians 4:5 reference is made to 'one faith'.

  does this mean the faith of one religion or denomination or does it mean all united in one faith, that is faith in jesus christ as lord and savior regardless of the denomination or religion?

  No I don't see it as one religion - religion & faith are as far apart as any 2 of the furtherest galaxies can be.

  You don't have to have religion to believe / have faith in God.

  Jesus or the Kingdom?

  it appears 2 me that jws harp so much on the new system and the " good news of the kingdom " that maybe the real theme of the bible is lost in the process.

  from what i've studied the theme of the bible is all about jesus.

  from the seed of genesis 3:15 to gods promise to abraham to giving the law as a tutor to christ ( you can't live or justify your salvation by law, you must have sins atoned 4 by jesus' sacrifice) 2 the real good news of the first century faith in that sacrifice and living like jesus did and being a christian which is learning how 2 love which brings life right now and future prospects of hope.

  I totally agree that the Witties have got it just a tad wrong (loads of sarcasm for good measure)

  I'm sure they preach that the theme of the bible is the soveinty of Jehovah - however once you actually leave & put everything into perspective it is all about receiving "life" now & him living within you now......

  What is your greatest fear?

  just wondering, my experience tells me that many jw live in constant state of watchfulness, bordering with paranoia.

  did any of that have an effect on you?

  like last week ive had a pleasure of browsing new childrens book great teacher or something (well it was new to me anyway) i was mightily surprised on the number of references to satan or devil.

  As you know I've left the borg - he's still very much into it. So yesturday myself, him & a mutual college go off for a lunch at the Keg - we order our food and when it comes, he bows his head and prays....silenty - the waitress comes over and thinks he's fallen asleep (narcarpsy sp???) So I mouth "no he's just praying"......Then today it's someones' birthday & there's a few cakes for us to eat, He will sign the card saying having a nice day but then will come to the cake table and no have anything (we know why) and every time he says it's a religious thing (I'm sure he feels like he's getting a pat on the back from God) Please know I love him dearly but he is AN OH SO BLINDED YOUNGSTER (though I've been telling him a few things)

  So my point is - is this Showey Display of praying in public nessessary. It kinda reminds me of the pharasees when they prayed on the street corners for all to see. I mean I don't recall it being a rule that you had to pray if you were out - I mean you were to use discresion, you're not too show that you think you are self righteous.

  I guess I'm so over the ""do this and don't do this"", that these actions just irritate me. And I see it as fake.
