Hmmm...memories....I remember telling myself that there was no way I was gonna get dunked at a local assembly. I was the very shy type and I made my family travel to another town so that people I knew wouldn't see me. And I wanted it to be at one of those big (district ?) ones, it seemed like less people were taking notice, there.

Gods Hero[s]
by Norm inthose who are believers and worry about meeting gods standard for moral, ethics and general behavior seem to have very little to worry about.
at least if we are to take the bible serious.
most christians seems to be very selective in such matters.

I do not think it's arrogant to be wondering why a supposedly loving God choose to kill men, women and children while calling faithful some characters who did things any Jehovah's Witnesses would be Disfellowshipped for (or sentenced by the world itself, in the case of Samson and others.)
How can a fair God say "Thou shalt not kill" then have all these people wiped-out is just beyond my understanding. And yes, I do think it's important to understand before blindly beleiving. God from the Bible seem to have two distinct personalities...the vengeful, violent one, and the one who is called Love who gave is own son to save humanity.

And the tree fell
by startingover inin the middle of the night, a tree in my yard split and half of it fell right across the street.
so early this morning i was up cutting it up and getting it out of the road.. now as i was doing this i started thinking about the noah story and what it would take to build something out of wood as large as the ark was described to be.
now i had a chain saw that made relatively quick work of it, but i can tell you that even a 2 foot piece of green lumber is quite heavy.

Oh yeah, that's right! *sniggers* Now we don't need to ask ourselves...God arranges everything.

Well, I am far for being a closed mind, so I would really like to understand how you can justify such violence. But I have been a Witness since my infancy, and I've heard every kind of explanations that never satisfied me. You see, I am the kind of person who would cry over a stray cat getting hit by a car. I just can NOT tolerate violence.
To me it feels just as if someone tried to justified a mass-murderer (who liked to burn foxes, too) by trying to give good reasons...

Venus Does Yoga
by rocketman ini was watching the new williams sisters "reality" show (abc family, 10 pm) and in it venus was in a session with the sister's personal trainer.
venus was instructed to do yoga while she and the trainer got tips from a video.
in the video, the instructor was doing various chants and uttering various phrases, and venus is shown saying "some of it is ungodly and against my christian beliefs, but i have to do it anyway".

Sheesh! And I had to take a stupid Physical education class in college because I had been told that my conscience shouldn't let me choose Yoga or Martial Arts! Of course, now I'm fully into Yoga and I just love emptying my mind for the demons to take over.lol

I once really wanted to beleive in the Bible...but there came a time when I just couldn't take all the mindless violence coming for or by a supposedly loving God. It's horrific!

Well, another sick Bible story....the funny thing is, if they ever made a movie out of Samson's story (and made it look realistic), it would probably be NC-17 and JW wouldn't be permitted to watch it. That's the Bible stories for ya.
I don't seem to remember that passage being read at the meeting...but maybe I just wasn't listening...how did they explain the massacres, use of poor animals and whoring around?

witnoid weddings
by katiekitten inwhen i was a kid weddings in the troof were a big deal.
probably because they were the main if not only excuse for a knees up.
if someone was getting married they were not in control of the decisions about the reception.

OH!! Who mentionned Square dancing!?? LOL Yeah! I don't know if it's everywhere the same, but it was ever so popular here, this little gang started it up at every possible song. And there was like a non-spoken competition to see who knew the most steps and could do them without a mistake.lol Still got the strange mental picture of those lines of sisters in flowery dresses and "sweaty brothers" kicking a foot left and clapping two time moving left and right through the room. (Bumping into independent dancers, lol) Complete with the odd ones in the back that couldn't follow!lol

Oooooh! Yes, I think we can all relate to that! They were mostly all like that, but I distinctly remember two exceptions...Once when I was very young, this pionner couple (poor, of course) asked to have their wedding ceremony and reception in the basement of our house. I remember thinking I never wanted to have my wedding in someone elses' basement. (Or have one of those insipid songs play during the ceremony...ugh)) I remember vividly our mother teaching us how to make kleenex roses to decorate the plastic table that would hold the "buffet".lol Kind of pitiful....
And there was that one, completly on the opposite. They clebrated it in a very expensive restaurant, and every guest was to pay for their dinner. That eliminated all the not so rich JWs in one clever stroke. The couple got a few dirty looks after that one.lol

I prefer pools...I have this strange fear of going into the sea. Might be that I shouldn't have watched Jaws when I was young, might be the Jelly-fish infestation I witnessed as a kid. *shudder* Now I am really mortified to put my feet in the sea, not knowing what might lurk in the sand...
