i see my jw family all the time, of course, since i am not a jw, not religious at all, i am always a little uncomfortable when my dad begins the "thank jehovah" for the food routine before we start eating.
of course, i just go along with it to make them happy and not rock the boat.. my question is, for all ex-dubs, whether you are atheist or still believe in god, does it make you uncomfortable when they "thank jehovah" for the meal (when you know what they really mean is we thank the watchtower corporation for the food before us!!
do you just bow your head and say amen, even though the prayer is directed to the wts???
Darn! Those pre-eating prayers are really embarassing when you're a kid in a restaurant, even then, people might take it for a normal prayer, but when they catch the words, they pretty much know we're wackos!lol
My dad too, has always done the exact same prayer for almost 25 years. And it sometimes even seem like he says it extra fast when he's really hungry. We all knew it by heart.lol And they are so proud to say they don't say re-hashed ones like the catholics do!

since the age of 15 i wanted to know who was god and why he was who he was.

Anyway...I read somewhere (and I'd really like to find it right now) that God, in the Bible, in it's original langague, was refered to as IT...not HE, not SHE, God , if there is one, has no gender.

lately, i have been thinking that this is one of the reasons that the society does not encourage higher education.
try handing in an essay without your name on it, try not referencing your essay, try having no works cited, try to have only 1 works cited, try quoting out of context, try spewing statistics or numbers or trends in your essay with no reference or date, add ellipsis that only alert your instructor to the potential of hidden information, or try presenting as support for your thesis a third party quote.
Actually, when I see one hanging around the house and I read the title, it always make me laugh. They always sound so silly, but trying hard to be serious. And just by reading a title, you can guess the kind of garbage they will rehash again...lol

the x jw dating site topic spurred me to check out the site for active jw singles.
my mother recently married a brother from germany that she met though one of those sites.
he is actually a pretty cool brother....for a brother, that is.. so i start looking for folks from my old cong in california and ran into a sisters profile that reads:.
I've had a bad experience from these sites. The one brother I met from there turned out to be an obsessive freak who was racist, poor, disliked cats, and hated my non-JW sister (telling me so clearly) the first time he met her. Wouldn't watch Lord of the Rings but had no problems viewing a violent police movie. The guy was over 30 and never had a steady girlfriend, you could tell he was desperate. Called me 3 times a day. *sigh*
The good thing about these sites though, is that I had to look them up on the net and while I did, took a quick peep at the ex-JW sites. And it all went down from there! lol

Oh my! I'm just dying to do the same kind of thing....make some kind of small booklet or tract for people on how to answer to JWs...oh, the possibities! Imagine if each and everyone of us did that..it would be a major public service....perhaps pass them around in neighborhoods that are frequently visited...to people who normally take the publications... It would need to have many website addresses and facts...oooh, I'm all worked up now!lol
do you guys think we are sufficiantly along in the month of october to be able to say that the end isnt coming in the fall of '05?.
when i was a dub i really thought the end was coming this month.. 1975+30= 2005. if adam was 30 when eve was created this would be the end of the 5000 years of since jahs last rest.. eve created, jah rest for 1000 years (1k years is as one day to jovah) he picks up work again 1000 years after eve is created.
now in 2005 that means he has just 1 more "day" until the next great 1k years sabbath.
What I like about you Elijah is that you never seem to get frustrated, even when everyone is mocking you. Very different from "faithful" JWs coming on this site who get worked up and resort to insult when they are contradicted.

The Deuteronomy one....I used at the end of my DA letter.:) Quite effective and it was one of the fist verses to really make me think.
it seems that some people are keen to use disfellowshipping as the measure of anything bad.
if someone is deleted from a forum for being obnoxious then that is akin to being disfellowshipped and is b-a-d. yada yada yada.. is it?.
is every disfellowshipping "bad" simply by virtue of being a disfellowshipping?.
Speaking of this...I'd really like to know how to answer when the elder will call again. My DA is pending, because he wanted to answer some of my questions...but I'm sure he will come back to it. What he said, was that they shunned the DAd and DFd because they followed that Bible rule. What do you answer to that? The problem is, and I told him that (amongst many other revolted blurt-outs), that I had no morally wrong behavior....the only thing I did was to refuse to follow their crazy rules (did not say crazy...of course). Do they really follow a Bible principle when things are like that?
