Running man....I honestly can't wait to read that chapter of Atheist book!! It will be a keeper, as always.
I would also like to have an apologetic point of view...any suggestion?
i'm reading a book and this morning i got to a part where it claimed that the life of jesus was very similar, if no downright copied on ancient pagan myths of different men-gods.
(amongst them osiris, dionysos, attis, adonis, bacchus and mithra.).
it said that in the different versions of the stories these elements could be found:.

Well, lol, don't she agree that the Egyptian myths are older then the Jesus story??
IP_SEC- You've been reading The Jesus Mysteries, right? The words you use are really ringing a bell!

Ah! Yes, well the book I'm reading is researches concerning the DaVinci code. To discover what is fiction and what is real in the novel. And it uses several other books on the subject and the one they mention this idea from is "the Jesus Mysteries: Was the original Jesus a Pagan god?" makes me want to read it.:)
I really don't mind fanatics posting here and smothing us all, lol, in fact I hope they will, if it comes with valid arguments.

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one here to have in interest in that. But why is it that so few people even heard about the subject??
I'll be sure to check out this book you mentioned, sounds interesting!

The character is god incarnated, the savior, the son of god.
His father is god and his mother a mortal virgin.
Born in a cave or stable on the 25th of december, in front of three sheperds.
Offers his followers to be born-again through baptism.
Changes water into wine at a wedding ceremony
Comes into a city, glorified, on the back of an ass, with people waving palm leaves in his honor.
Is sacrified on Easter to save the world from it's sins.
When he dies, goes down to sheol for three days then comes back to life and goes up to heavens.
Followers wait for his coming back in the last days.
His death and resurection are celebrated with a ritual meal of wine and bread, symbolising his blood and body.
How do christians explain the similitudes? The book mentioned that the first fathers of the church (Justin, Tertullien and Irénée) were troubled by the talk that was going on and were saying that the ressemblances were the fruit of demonic imitation. That the devil copied in anticipation, making the previous myths like the story of Jesus would be.
Any refutations? Things to add?
(By the way, this is just a discussion, I respect everyone, Bible beleivers or not.) Hppy Valentines day!
yesterday, i watched a program on the discovery channel, called "a haunting in connecticut".
this was truly the most scary story of a haunted house i have ever seen.
the events happened a few years ago, but they`re apparantly going to make a movie out of it now.
Yes!! I saw that show. Had trouble going to bed after that. Was very glad I don't have a basement.lol It was the one with the embalming place right? And the boys would see shadows walk in the room at night?
There was that other one that scared the freak out of me. Some angry spirit was moving a girl's bed at night, banging it on the wall, and pushing her up from under the bed. Creepy. Sometimes I wish I didn't live alone.
i read a thread posted by gill which gives an account of an 8 year old being baptised.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/107441/1.ashx.
does anyone know what the society considers to be the minimum age at which a witness can be disfellowshipped?
I was 18 when I got baptized...and now I realise I was too immature spiritually to make that choice. When one is brought up in a religion and closed to the outside world and it's many different path and thoughts....it's pretty hard to make a real choice.
Now that I made researches and DAd myself, my dad is shunning me. And the most horrible part is that he's telling my 13 years old brother that's it's my fault because I broke the vow and promise I made. Crap! Now I'm trying to explain my bro that the WT is actually the one that lied to me.

i had mine done a few weeks ago, and also my chakras.. my colours for my aura photograph were predominately green with some blue.. if you've had yours done, what colours showed up, and do you think the interpretation was correct?.
bb.
From what I remember about it, they say that very saintly/spiritual people (Buddha, Jesus, etc.)have a lot of gold color in their aura, and that would be why they were portrayed with the halo...
Also that people with a lot of black or dark in their aura are supposed to be persons we should be careful with...lots of negativity, I think.
.
have any of you read this?.
if you have, what was your opinion please.
I think it's a pity that a whole part of it was destroyed. It gives a very fresh view (along with the rest of the non-canonical books) to early christianity. It makes me want to read more of it.
