  Sunday Show Channel Nine in Australia/JW Abuse Program

  just to let everyone know that channel nine here in australia is once again featuring jehovah's witnesses and abuse on this coming sunday's program, this being sunday the 29th of may.

  Have you a POSITIVE JW experience??

  ok sometimes i feel it's good to maybe not redress the balance, but at least can you say something positive that you gained from your jw experience.

  so thats what i want you to do, if you so feel inclined.

  can you say or mention something that had a positive effect on you when you were a witness?

  positive?... positive?.... positive?.... Well as a teen, I stayed out of drugs. I was never allowed to date so I had no idea how to even deal with that area of life... but it did keep me out of drugs. When they were offered to me, I said no. I also never started smoking.

  This is a really hard excercise!

  Is it better to just LEAVE or FIGHT?

  although, i have not been victim to the same level of damage from the wts as many of you on this site, i have noticed that it is very difficult to fight such a large entity with deep pockets and passionate (though misled) supporters.. .

  since i am still in the very early stages of leaving/fading, i wonder:.

  i have already spent the vast majority of my life sacrificially serving the interests of this org.

  When it comes down to it.... If you fight, you could be labeled 'a bad association' or even 'apostate' (my one true dream in life ) However, if you don't fight and leave to lead your own wonderful free life, it leaves the door open to later help someone out who otherwise may have noone to turn to. Some other person who the borg have smothered would be able to reach out to you because you are still able to be talked to. They(the dubs) like "fights" but they fear that knowledge will reach those "fringe witnesses"... you do more good that way

  Advice

  i work at a college and just got as a new advisee a young jw woman.

  she came to freshmen registration by herself which surprised me because in her application letter she said throughout her school years her mother impressed on her and her sibs how important education is and that they would be the first in the family to go to college and they would go to college.

  also, she said that her father was self-employed in construction but that her mother was not employed (so free to accompany daughter to this very exciting day, no?

  I'd have to agree with everyone else. You are doing great! Just continue testing the boundries gently. It sounds like her family are certainly more open than most. College alone is a great step so the doorway is there!

  Knowledge levels the playing field and is death to the borg.

  has their stand on this suddenly received "new light"?

  my teen received a letter from my mother telling her they(she and my sister) would no longer be associating with me (her mom) but that she could still come to visit the several states away!?!.

  she blubbered on about how her conscience was bothering her everytime she had any interaction with me.

  I thank everyone for their input. In the past, I've only allowed my daughter to see them with my supervision. I've been there to try and protect her from them.

  Being a teen, she thinks she's old enough to protect herself now despite some major problems that have happened even with me to protect her. This letter basically told her they only put up with me until now because my daughter was so young and now they didn't want me around any longer. Can you imagine how they would react when they found out that my daughter is now interested in Wicca? I told my daughter that she would be "shunned" every bit as much as I was if they found out and her argument was that she could wear a "mask" for any time she spent with Grandma. See Grandma spends money on her that we don't have since I'm a single mom.

  This whole thing almost sounds like something an ex would do to mess with a kids head.

  I agree with you that it would not be a good idea to allow her to visit them alone. But how do you make that valid argument to a teen?

  She blubbered on about how her conscience was bothering her everytime she had any interaction with me. A Great 3 page letter to send to a 13 year old... [yes but we know honey that grandma has . . . umm . . problems and we make allowances for her]

  What is the current stand? And are they doing some pressuring currently to explain this letter from out of the blue?
