  hi guys,.

  i just signed up to the forum today.

  i left the organisation over a year ago and have been sharing my experiences and shedding light on jw's on a religious forum.

  Welcome, Darkshadow - I have a family member from Cape Town (he's older) and the Cape Towners seem to flock to San Diego, CA, in the US, because of the beautiful weather and ocean. He was an Olympic swimmer when he was on scholarship at SMU, TX. Amazing guy - still swims daily in the ocean and in great health.

  I've heard how beautiful and majestic Cape Town is for years. Love Paul Simon's #1 album he recorded with the South African musicians. I missed the last trip to Johannesburg/Cape Town, unfortunately - maybe, someday!

  My Mom died last week.

  last wednesday my elder brother called me to let me know mom had died.

  she was 97 years old and was in a nursing home for the last 7 years.

  her mind had left her many years ago to the point she didn't recognize any of us.

  Still - at least you have confirmation of a mental disorder/disease re/your mom. Not undermining the situation but so many adult children and family members excuse the toxic/evil/inadequacy as being mentally crazy or other sidewalk psych term (no professional evaluation) when they're just plain awful and care less about their children. It's very difficult for many to face the reality and easier to excuse them as something mental. There are way too many disordered/evil parents that were never JWs in the world - believe me.

  I don't understand how churches can social distance unless very few members show up. Churches offer much today - everything from AA to WW (Weight Watchers), every kind of counseling imaginable with professional therapists on board to help people. These are difficult times -- whatever helps people with life and through this is essential but I'm not saying it's safe.

  Many residents of nursing homes only have state-sponsored insurance via Medicare and this is not good coverage. This is standard throughout the country. In this state they do not send COVID patients to the hospital. They are quarantined to separate area - same floor w/trained nurse. Residents who have not relinquished their private health insurance do have adequate coverage and the right to go to hospital or their families/power of attorneys decide.

  Since the lock down, the federal gov't has been sending military personnel to inspect nursing facilities to aid and assist re/health and cleanliness. Intense disinfecting measures have been going on.

  england has come up with a covid vaccine at the oxford university.

  india wants to start using it in a couple of months.

  The anti-Trump people are negatively undermining HCL (Hydroxychloroquine) but couple of renown physicians (and many others) have prescribed it for years including cardiologist group and now for their COVID 19 patients with success - no heart problems at all nor monitoring of any type. The Veteran study was sloppy work and NY's clinical study not accurate/trustworthy. Physician at a TX nursing facility prescribed to all the elderly residents (many underlying health issues) and had excellent results - only lost one patient and it wasn't heart related. There's problems with the big pharm cos and low price of HCL not fitting their agenda. It's saving lives but with the war of the parties going on you would never know it. HCL has four properties that work against COVID 19 but needs to be administered early in the diagnostic phase of COVID 19 or given prophylactically. Workers at a NY hospital are taking it to prevent contacting the virus.

  What a hot mess w/the political fear mongering as youtube continues to remove opposing views/facts from physicians and virologists. Follow the money/political corruption.

  There Are Better Songs to Sing

  the 1983 film educating rita, written by willy russell and starring michael caine and julie walters, is one of the finest stories ever told.

  julie's character is the eponymous working class hairdresser and michael caine plays professor frank bryant her open university tutor assigned, against his will, to teach her english literature.

  the dialogue is brilliant and funny but it is the dilemma of an awakening rita caught between two worlds that is deeply moving.

  What a great movie Educating Rita was and analogy/observation re/dropping WT for seizing one's life -- love Michael Caine. With all this COVID 19 stress a pub like that is looking pretty darn good no matter which world/lol.
