When I hit a rough spot in my life I came to realize that the elder arrangement (and I had my turn at that "privilege") was a sham. The love shown within the organization being above anything in the world was a sham. The congregation having the same concern for the sheep within the flock as Jesus manifested was a sham. Like I have read on this board numerous times - when the house of cards started to fall, nothing could stop it from total collapse.

for me personally, it was the way they always downgrade jesus to be an angel and are promoting the governing body in his place.. also when the society taught that jesus was abaddon/apollyon the fallen angel in revelation..

Live music in the Kingdom Halls
by Quillsky ini recall being young and having a lovely solo pianist accompanying the singing in our hall.. in around the late 70's the obligatory (canned, sad) recorded music replaced live musicians.. anyone have any more detailed memories of live music and the subsequent changeover?.

Well I'm glad that others see how ludicrous it is. Wish I would have allowed myself to analyze the stupidity of so many of the teachings before wasting so many years. I guess I was like so many of them still in who have these questions, but will not allow doubt to enlighten them. Any others remember them saying that if you had a problem understanding, especially a new thought, could you put it on the back burner so to speak for a period of six months or so with the hope that over time it would clarify in your mind. I think now it was another of their schemes knowing full well that what would more likely happen is that you would just forget about it. i

Paragraph 5 is a hoot. Most people that one comes into contact with are normal well adjusted people. The "lovers of themselves," "haughty," and even "fierce," are totally the exception in my experience. One of the little pushes out the door for me was the treatment from an elder who manifested one of the haughtiest attitudes of anyone i have encountered. The sad thing is that because of the theocratic training and his being an elder he didn't/couldn't even recognize it in himself. And the other thing is how they are so cognizant with what the entertainment world is like. Do they have special brothers who are allowed to experience these forms of worldly entertainment so that they can report on how bad they are?

Not going to try to remember the year/years, but in the first congo I attended we had an older brother play the violin, usually along with a sister on the piano and sometimes a guitar joining to make a trio.

How should these anointed ones view themselves as they await their heavenly reward? They realize that although they have received a wonderful invitation, it is only that-an invitation
And paragraph 15 adds this tidbit: however, Christians who have truly received this anointing do not demand special attention. They do not believe that their being of the anointed gives them special insights beyond what even some experienced members of the "great crowd" may have.
Sooo , either they have themselves (the governing body) in a special sub-group of anointed or why should anyone listen to them as they demand?

Have your JW Relatives Explained about Generation/Overlap Change to You ?
by flipper inafter reading on the way out's thread about his mom explaining the generation overlap to him it kicked this idea into my head to make this thread .
i thought it would be helpful to see if anybody here has had jw relatives or friends try to explain this " generation overlap " theory to you as a faded or inactive witness and what happened in the conversations.

It is amazing that Jehovah only just now figured out exactly what he was directing his bible writers to write down by holy spirit. Thank goodness his mind was jogged in time to cause his modern day governing body to drop the incorrect notions they were insisting each and every witness accept for so long now. Again in these last days He, through the guidance of his holy spirit has been able to direct towards a proper understanding. As EGNOG pointed out a loving and progressive understanding.
