  We are NOT appostate

  not to rain on the collective parade but what makes people here think they are appostate?

  most of us have come to a rational conclusion that the jw / wtb is directed by a bunch of old men not directed by the holy spirit, is fallable, and cynically changes doctrine.

  so to be against that is not to be appostate.

  What words and phrases do Brits and others see as 'American'?

  as an american, i see words such as cheerio, blimey, bloody (when referring to something negative), loo, bugger, fag (cigarette), etc.

  as chiefly british (i suppose they are).. what words and/or phrases do you consider to be chiefly american?

  i'm honestly unaware of which words i use that may not be used in other english-speaking countries.

  first of all, the standard christian and jw definition changes the meaning of fear to respect, like a person respects the power of gravity.

  If there is an all-powerful god, he certainly should be feared.

  If it does exist, it should only be feared by those who fear death. That's the whole premise of the Bible. If you don't fear death, then why kiss God's unreasonable ass?

  i'm wondering if there are any urban legends passed around at your former (or current) hall, like the one we had about smurfs.

  an elder told us that smurfs were created by satan worshipers and were evil.

  he then told us about a young girl who brought a plush smurf doll to service at a local hall.

  How do you trust your partner?

  does anyone really trust their girlfriend/boyfriend around members of the appropriate sex?.

  i thought we had some form of trust, but i dropped my biotch off at the car dealership today and noticed a rather long conversation going on with a "questionable" neighbor (one that we've talked about before in a sexual way).

  so, how do you go about building trust in a relationship?

  Billygoat, we call each other 'names' all the time. I don't think that's a lack of respect since we don't take it seriously. It's sort of like when black people call one another niggas. It's not meant as an insult.

  We're not the PC, lovey-dovey type, and that's not the problem.

  In retrospect, I guess it was kind of rude of me to use that word here. I was just angry that such a low stunt would be pulled right in front of me (I'm also not sure if anything's going on or not).

  What Kinds of Jobs Do JWs Have That You Know Of?

  i was thinking that most jws that i personally know have jobs that they really aren't happy with.

  almost no one is a professional except for one cardiologist that got baptized a few years ago.

  there's no one that's been raised in the "truth" that has a college education that i know of except one 22 year old young man who has done nothing to seek employment since he graduated.........any witnesses that you know of with great jobs?

  Most of the ones we know are well-off. One family owns their own TV repair/sales shop, another family consists of a college professor and a high school teacher, and many others are self-employeed.

  From what I'm hearing on this site, the Witnesses in my area are rather laid back.

  Then he was just dumb. Anyone with personal information on their computer should never let people use their accounts.

  That aside, the woman needs to seek help. Why is Dan's personal life anyone's business? It sounds to me like she was gossiping, which is also a no-no.

  A Christian question, but applies to all thinking Christian too!

  no longer being a christian, it has become a mind opening experience to look back and see certian things i once ignored or just brushed off.

  yet now i can not help but see these things and wonder why other christians do not.. if you have ever studied greek, roman or any other cultures religions in history.

  then you have no doubt read their legends, about gods and how things came to be, and no doubt you have enjoyed these and at the same time you must have wondered how people actually bought this enough to make it a religion.

  Isn't it liberating? There was a time that I swore God existed and would get offended if anyone said otherwise. Then I began to look at the state of the world and this 'being's" lack of action, and I asked myself, "Why did I ever believe in this load of horse crap?"

  I'm sure that ancient Romans and Greeks believed in their gods for the same reason that modern Christians believe in theirs....years of conditioning and brainwashing. The human mind is one hell of a machine; it can make you see and feel things that were never there. I felt God's presence just as much as the holy spirit moved me to jump at a rock concert. It's all in the mind.
