I like Chinese parades. At least they're interesting.

Why do people hate Americans?
by dorayakii inmaybe the correct word is not "hate", but "distain" or "dislike"... .
many people were against the war in iraq and dilike president bush, has this had a baring on how people view americans?
when america flexes its military muscles how do you feel?

Interesting...
I certainly don't have a problem with patriotism, but I don't think that many realize where it comes from. War veterans are worshiped like gods in the US, especially the ones who didn't make it home. In fact, everything that has to do with war is glorified and romanticized. Why is that? We have numerous war anthems, war paintings laden with American flags, war museums, war toys, canons and military vehicles in front of government buildings, former slave owners and murderers and rapists of Native Americans on our money (Andrew Jackson ), etc.
I for one am glad to be here, but I also don't sugar-coat or overlook what our government does and has done to keep us in check. There's nothing wrong with being proud to be an American, as in having love for your community and fellow countrymen, but blind patriotism is promoted by the government and makes little sense. Praising the founding fathers for creating this great nation as they committed genocide upon Native Americans makes even less sense.
I get sickened every time I look at a $20 bill (and no, I'm not going to send mine to anyone). If more people knew of the horrors committed by Andrew Jackson, I think there would be a rally to get his ugly face off of it. He was one crooked, evil bastard.

Are Americans patriotic just for show?...
I think many are patriotic because they've been conditioned to be. I'm not sure if you have anything like this is the UK, but grade school children must stand every morning, face the flag, put their right hand over their hearts, and say the Pledge of Allegiance. To me this seems a little spooky and Naziesque, but it's something that we've all grown accustomed to. Even though it's blatant brainwashing, most don't seem to acknowledge the fact.
It seems that patriotism, even forced patriotism, has been passed down from generation to generation ever since the Revolutionary War, being driven by the government. Maybe that war has something to do with it? Being the underdog who came out on top? Maybe patriotism has been an active campaign to create a love affair with the State to prevent citizens from rebelling again?
It's not only the US who's overly patriotic. South Americans simply LOVE their flags and their countries. I've you've ever watched a Venezuelan sporting event, you'll know what I'm talking about.

I loved the way Bush put his arms around the two black girls and kept glancing at the camera to make sure it was still shooting.
Then when he was talking to the rescuers, instead of looking at them as he was speaking he went into acting mode and talked into the camera making dramatic gestures.
What a phony. If he wasn't going to be sincere he should have never went there at all. I don't think that concern for human pain, suffering, and life in general is high up in his agenda.

Katrina Aftermath - whatever happened to personal responsibility?
by EscapedLifer1 inok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.
there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.
i have a few questions about this mindset:.

I would definitely have put something together just in case, It wouldn't have had to be much.
Who's to say that many of them didn't have a stash of food in preparation for the storm? I'm sure their cupboards weren't completely bare before Katrina struck.
Did you see their homes? How were they supposed to get to their food, scuba dive? Most of them were completely flooded all the way up to the rooftops. And other homes were completely washed away, or at least the contents were washed out. Obviously the food went downstream along with everything else.
It's easy for us to sit here behind our computers and say what people should have done when we really have no idea what's going on.

So, Who are the people that ignore BIG warnings?
by upside/down ini mean...it doesn't matter what the potential disaster is...there is always a group of morons that think they are invincible and can weather anything mother nature can throw at them.... is this evolutions way of strengthening the strain?
or is it weeding out the stupid weak?.
i'm not talking about the sick and poor that can't ...but the healthy fools that stay...and die.. it doesn't matter it's a volcano, tsunami, tornado, forest fire, hurricane, typhoon.....or a big toothed carnivorous animal...there is always the moron who demands to stay and face imminent harm and death...instead of using his brain and just temporarily relocating...to a safer locale.

What is WRONG with people? (Looters, shooters, et al)
by AlmostAtheist ini'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.
shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.
it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

And the same people shooting at the rescuers are going to expect to be rescued when they run out of food.

You had Star Wars bed sheets
You saw girls wearing leg warmers during the summer and thought it was normal
You can remember when VCRs sold for $500
You wanted a whip like Indiana Jones
You considered Patrck Swayze and Sylvester Stallone good actors
You can remember when people finally started to replace shag carpeting
You once thought mullets were cool
You know the words to at least two Weird Al Yankovic songs, "Like a surgeon, HE!"
You didn't think that hair bands or glam rockers looked gay
You actually thought that 'Who's the Boss' was funny
McGruff the Crime Dog was your hero
You had a "Just Say No" class in school and actually believed that you would
You know what's inside of Olly Octopus and Stretch Armstrong
You used to argue over who was better, Michael Jackson or Prince
You thought that Cindy Lauper and Madonna could sing
You owned at least one Adidas t-shirt
You didn't laugh when Van Damme did his slow motion yells in Bloodsport, "Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
You remember when cartoons like G.I. Joe weren't too violent to be shown after school
You wanted to get inside the game 'Tron'.
You thought it would be cool to hang out with Teen Wolf
At least one kid in your school wore fake Mr. T chains

after removing the foreskin of the penis, the practitioner, or mohel, sucks the blood from the wound to clean it.
Oh God damn. If some son of a bitch put his herpes lips on my child's schlong I'd beat the hell out of him.
This is just sick. Where in the Torah does it say that a rabbi should suck a child's circumcision clean?
