i bumped into a jw at the store the other day.
he doesn't know i'm df'd (apparently) and i didn't decide to enlighten him.
he banged on for a bit about people we both knew, how service was that morning, etc.
the dictionary defines apostate as "one who practices apostasy, to revolt".
doesn't this apply to just about anyone?
jw's wanted us to think that the word has more meaning into it then it really does.
The term apostate, as JW's use it today, did not come into Watchtower parlance until 1980, post Franz. Previously, apostate was usually paired with Christendom, as in "apostate Christendom" or "apostate Christians of Christendom" or something along those lines.
Hey... what can I say? They needed a label. :)

in an effort to speed up downloads of some of our larger files, we've set up many of these files with bittorrents.
for those who don't know what bittorrents are, you can find out more about them on wikipedia.. because of the set-up, we've had to relocate some of the files to different areas in our servers, so some of the 'read online' options that we used to have won't be working the next few days, we'll get it back to the way it was soon though, but also give a couple extra download options.. the latest release is the video, "young people ask, what will i do with my life?
" for those who are interested the bittorrent file is located here:.
Poztate: I just checked, and the "easy download" option is installing the official bittorrent client and then initiating the download for you. So it will still seed the release.
But I too use Azureus as I'm on a Mac and a PC and I like having consistent software across both platforms (Azureus is java running with IBM's SWT toolkit for those interested) and as such is a very good performer.
There is also apparently an upload section too (I tested it with Cornstarch! which I suppose should really be deleted by reexam, but its cool, watch it)
Btw, check out VLC to play these movie files. Its an open-source cross-platform video, audio player which handles just about every file format you'd ever want. Its wonderful, and one of my most used apps ever.

Actually, there is a link on the reexamine site called easy download or something along those lines. It downloads the bittorrent software and begins downloading the relevant file for you. (Quite simple)
Opera now supports bittorrent downloads, and the original bittorrent client is quite minimal and simple too.

schizm, scholar or any other wt defenders, please if you have a topic, like a bible verse, a wt doctrine, a non wt doctrine etc.
start a thread, we will discuss it with you.
but keep the discussion on the subject don't attack people just because they don't agree with you.
On most boards, trolls like PMJ would be banned. Though I understand the argument that he acts as a cautionary example, his all caps no spelling approach is blatant trolling.
Scholar: Wow, more circular that 1914 is right because of 607 and 607 must be right because of 1914?

using the wts's dates in the january 1.1965 page 29 : nabonidus= 17 years.
add 17 to 539=556, neriglissar==4 years, add 4 to 556=560, evil-marduk=2 years, add 2 to560=562, nebuchadnezzar=43 years, add 43 to 562 =605.
the bible at 2 kings 25: 8 and 9 says "in the 19th year of king nebuchadnezzar the servant of the king came to jerusallem and burned the house of jehovah.
Funny, my copy of the book on page 189 says seventeen lines, not eighteen.
Not that I see the point in quibbling how lines of evidence there are, I think a refutation of them would be far more useful.

has anyone seen this video?
its been posted over on reexamine.
its crazy.
Wow, I haven't watched this in ages. It just makes me wanna blow my brains out. I'm sure one day we'll look back on this like we look back on "The Birth of a Nation".
Honesty, how would you go about picking apart this video for your step daughter?

as an old timer former jw, i remember well the tobacco prohibition.
when i came in during the mid 50's it was looked down upon.
i'd already started smoking in my early teens and didn't actually quit till i was 20. my motive?
Oh don't get me wrong, I certainly would prefer a non-smoking religion as you put it, than a smoking one. I went through the terrible process of getting someone through a double-lung transplant... someone who has ruined their own lungs from smoking at the age of 47.
I think what I object to is arbitrariness of it. I think many others will also object to simply creating hard and fast rules around it. If its indeed a "principle", let it stay a principle without being enforced as a law. "Attention, this is the elders! Put up your hands and stop smoking in 6 months!"
As for insurance companies looking at your lollipop consumption; if the insurance companies thought they could determine liability via lollipop consumption, they would examine it. Besides which, they already check into weight (a general indication of a lollipop consumption) Per my link earlier, obesity has overtaken smoking in causing heart disease.
