light skin: so much for intelligent design...
by googlemagoogle in... and evolution, by the way.
if we were designed by an intelligent creator, why the heck do we light-skinned people get burnt to death when the sun is shining?
not very intelligent design... .

Anything worth seeing in Boston?
by Pole ini'm going to boston, ma for 5 days (6-11th of july) to a conference held at the mit.
so i'll be staying in cambridge actually, but it seems to be adjacent to boston.
on one of the days i'm supposed to give a presentation, but i should also have a day or two off for sightseeing.

Hi Pole!
I use to live in Providence, RI., about a half-hour away from Boston. I frequented the city and found lots of great things to do...I'm certain you'll have a great time! The best thing about the city is that it is walkable. Which is essential, because let me tell you (as they say in boston), if you are hiring a car out of Logan and driving the city..you are in for a challenge. The streets were fashioned after a 17th century grid and remain unchanged. Many are one-way and it is easy to get lost while simply trying to circle a block.
Since you will be in Cambridge anyway, I suggest taking a harbor cruise and double deck bus tour combination package you can get at the back entrance to the Cambridge Side Galleria. They offer a discount if you purchase both, I wanna say under $30. The out of town visitors that I suggested this to, really enjoyed both. Also, it is basically the only way to get a photo of the entire Boston skyline, if you are into photography. Another little tip about the Galleria...they have the cheapest parking in town @ 3.99 on nights and weekend. Parking is a *itch in this city. Not only expensive but majorly in short supply.
There are lots of Italians in this city, so if you like Italian food, the North End has the best little bunch of Italian-American owned and operated restaurants and bakeries. A place called Terramia being the absolute best in this girl's humble opinion. And of course for Seafood, I recommend Legal Seafood for awesome new england clam chowder.
Happy travels,

Another topic on lieing....
by shera inso...i'm in a relationship, where my man lies alot about his gambling problem.of course.... .
the thing is he tells me all men lie and basically saying...like him.
(also i will never find a man that won't lie).

Hi Shera,
All men lie? Yeah right. I have met men who never lie. Often, you can tell when a person is honest and when they are not. I would watch out for this guy of yours and his lies, especially if he has a gambling problem. Next thing you know he will have totally ruined your credit with his addiction. Aside from all of the other grief he may be putting you through, I would be mostly concerned with him stealing your money or credit cards. Best to suggest he seek help and get away from him for awhile before his "little" lies prevent you from your own financial security. .
Ip_sec- have you read any of Henry Rollins books? Just wondering, I was heavily into his poetry and spoken word performances back in high school. Not that I recommend them... looking back he was pretty vulgar and kinda crude. lol.

Passing the time.
by Low-Key Lysmith ini used to come up with all kinds of things to do to pass the time during meetings and especially conventions.
i would resort to counting ceiling tiles sometimes or go over movies in my head line for line.
what did y'all do to beat the doldrum?

During long boring talks my young girlfriend and I would give each other the eye across the room. which meant, wahoo! time to meet up in the nursery behind the ladies room and chitchat about whatever gossip was going down at school that day.

Mental and physical fitness for exJWs
by Markfromcali inhaving opened up your mind to some extent as many have, it seems there may be a natural inclination to open up your body too, be more active, flexible, what have you.
does this make sense?
have you noticed this kind of correspondance with yourself, wanting to "be all you can be" as it were?

I've pretty much always been aware of my body and keeping it healthy and fit. Even as a witness. I participated in a work-study program through a yoga studio at a time when I was burying a lot of un-dealt with feelings, over beliefs. No longer in it, yet, not ready to profess to the world...I tried to ignore it altogether. But as I got more involved in kripalu yoga and deep meditation I began losing consciousness and blacking out in the middle of class. I lost all of my energy and would completely fall over. After brushing it off the first few times, my instructor sat down with me and asked questions about my spiritual life and suggested my black-outs were due to emotions surfacing that were unrecognized.
After much hesitation, I finally blurted out my suspicions of being raised in a cult and that I was now trying to get on with life the best way I knew how. I was glad I confessed! It turned out she had a best friend that was raised a jw, a former gilead missionary, now a former witness. The first exjw I'd ever met! She ended up helping me a lot.
Today, I still practice yoga some, but try to meditate, even if for five minutes, everyday. I find the mind-body connection to be essential in staying healthy.

What's a good site to find airline ticket prices?
by sonnyboy ini'm looking for the cheapest round trip ticket possible from maryland to texas.
i was supposed to be on my way there by car, but my friend bailed out at the last minute and i'm not driving that far alone.

Maybe I'll drive afterall.
Why not. Come on...If this defenseless little gal can drive from Pa to Ks on her own with all of her earthly possessions in tow...you can get down to TX. You could think of it as the ultimate road trip, planning various stops along the way and shacking up in hostels or KOA.
or...
try: 1 800-ok-cheap (www.cheaptickets.com) I would suggest Southwest Airlines out of Baltimore, that is, if they fly into your destination city. As a former flight attendant out of Dulles, I am certain these are two great lead sources for your cheapest flight out of Md. I would suggest Independence Air out of Dulles, but I don't think they fly into TX yet. You could check, that is, if you would consider driving into DC.
Good luck!

List of things banned to JWs
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inmy wife is involved with jws, and i want to find out what they believe, things they do or will not do, that i can present to her in the hope that it will convince her that the jw lifestyle is not for her.
i found out a few things already, like blood and yoga which i told her about, but she was unphased.
("i've never needed a transfusion before anyway, and besides, they told me that doctors have blood substitute now".

Oh my gaaa. I am shocked just looking at that list and remembering things that are outlawed. I can see if you grew up without ever having any of it and not knowing any better, but the fact that they are still able to get people at the door to convert with all of these insane restrictions? Are people really all that excited about living forever or something that they buy into it without thoroughly researching it first? wowsers.
What about personal events like marriage anniversaries?
Yes, this is the only personal event you can recognize and celebrate, basically. That and the memorial observation of Christ's death.
I wonder if the study group she is in knows that we were BOTH in the military before
It will be ok if she is no longer engaged in the military. Yes, they are anti-war, anti-military, anti-patriotism preferring to remain neutral in all things political. Growing up, I had a friend who's dad was sent to jail for refusing to go to war after he was drafted for Vietnam (as all faithful jw young men at the time did). He is like a local hero in the circuit.
Yes, and if she stumbles someone with basically anything her fellow kingdom hall goer's deemed unchristian and disturbing...well forget it. She may have to give that up, wether it be first born child or anything shaped like a heart. (cause the origin of heart shapes are evil as well, you know).

My relationship has come to an end because of JW brainwashing
by MM090503 ina few of you may remember when i came to this site back in sept. i was seeking advice about my bf who had been studying with jw.

after being together almost 2yrs we broke up.

Hi Meg,
I was not familiar with your story prior to today. I read your previous posts. Very sorry for the pain you are experiencing. Breakups are ruff, especially under these circumstances. Although it seems there is no stopping your bf from walking down this blinded path, I am confident you will be better off. Imagine a life, a future, with children down the road...the heartache that would come upon further involvement with this man would only certainly increase. Maybe you will find each other again later in life, once he has decided it is a lie (if he does with any luck). Regardless, it is certainly not your fault...you can't control him. You tried to help. There is little more you can do. Now try & not allow yourself to get all depressed. Somewhere out there, I assure you, is another wonderful guy sans the heartache and grief.

feliz cumpleaƱos veintiocho, el jarocho mayor!!!
Wear sunscreen, don't smoke too many of those cigars, take care of your body so that it can take care of you, enjoy life one moment at a time, as slowly as it comes to you remembering what William B. Yeats says: "From our birthday, until we die, is but the winking of an eye."
