  i just started reading the book 'the celestine prophecy.

  " i'd like to share a little excerpt with you that is asking us to imagine what the medieval world view" was like and while you read this see if you find it familiar to what we are experiencing as a result of "watchtower's world view".. every place you see the word churchmen", try inserting the word "governing body or "faithful and discrete slave.

  it is very interesting to see that history repeats itself in various ways and also just how behind the times the wt organization really is.

  your post reminds me of a book I read when I was younger...

  ...it was set in the future, but the world had become again as it was in medieval times...the highest technology consisted of swords, shields, and castles...

  ...there was an institution, a religion of sorts, that controlled people's lives and destinies... for example, the priests used to make people believe their dead relatives were communicating from the spirit realm.

  ...a young man figured out that it was all a hoax...he unraveled the secrets of the true history of the world...there had been war and people out of fear discarded most of technology...but leaders kept some secretly to maintain control...for example, tape recordings of voices were made before they died...these recordings were manipulated to make spurious 'spirit messages'.

  I wondered when I read that, 'what if my religion is just a big hoax?'. I was probably only about 12, but the implications resonated within me for a long time.

  Has anyone else read this book? I can't even remember what it was called.

  Be A Hero!!!!!

  in the last few months, quite a few movies have inspired americans to want to be heroes.

  it almost seems uncanny, coming in the wake of 9-11. a good example is the sum of all fears: .

  I haven't seen that one yet. But, after watching Spiderman recently, I noticed that I was not alone in feeling a sense of awe and courage. People left the theatre with beaming faces, no doubt feeling inspired. So my question is this:

  Why did practically everyone leave their trash on the ground as they exited?

  It's not just hoodlum youth in the inner cities who jeopardize our communities. What about the doctors, lawyers, businessmen, etc who do not care to pick up their own unfinished popcorn?

  Fainting, seizures, vomiting - help!

  my oldest daughter, beth, had her second episode yesterday and i'm now officially worried and am looking for someone in the medical community or someone who recognizes these symptoms.. her very first seizure was a febrile seizure, due to a high temp when she was a year old.

  i doubt this has anything to do with the present stuff.. a few months ago, she fainted at work and seizured on the stairs, was taken by ambulance to the er.

  she came home looking beat up from banging her head on the stairs, with a mild concussion.. yesterday, when she went to get on the bus, she felt it coming on again, and while she was able to somehow ward of the 'seizure', she blacked out before she could pay her fare.

  Hi Mimilly,

  I am no doctor, but having maintained a pediatric cardiology database for three years, I know that a good deal of young adults have never been diagnosed with cardiac defects that are congenital. A couple of the tests that can be done are the echocardiogram (or ECHO...a stress ECHO would be especially useful.) and cath (using fluoroscopy). The first is non-invasive.

  If you see a cardiologist first, this doctor will be able to make the proper referrals to neurology, etc, as necessary. I am not sure that the converse would be as reliable.

  The fainting spells may be syncope. Cardiologists will know what cardiac and non-cardiac causes may be responsible.

  This is probably the new internet worm. It is very very nasty, from what I have read. Anytime you see an attachment with more than one extension (i.e. somethingsomething.doc.bat) it's a VIRUS or WORM. (You have to check by getting the file properties to see this, however). It fools your e-mail into thinking that it is one type of file when it is really another.

  Also why would there be other creations that have no consience and life to be many many years older? If they had a consience then those creations would have a much better chance to live in heaven. Such as a turtle or a tree.

  You make an assumption without remotely considering its veracity. You are saying that humans are unique in that they have a conscience. This is what you feel. But you are not thinking.

  Were you to actually think about it, you would see that your assumption is really a circular argument:

  'Because God created man with a conscience and animals without a conscience, therefore man has a conscience and animals do not.'

  What is worse is that the Bible refrains from saying that or even implying that. Remember the book of Job?... 'Where were you when I created Leviathan'? Do you know how Leviathan (or any other animal) thinks? You are making yourself the judge of what is God's will.

  Anyhow, we all post on this board to have our opinions heard and challenged. So stick around. Your might experience a paradigm shift. It will be fun.

  I have seen in concert: Megadeth,Tesla, Queensryche, Joe Satriani/Steve Vai/John Petrucci. I got to see Stevie Wonder perform at an event at UCLA recently. Simply amazing!

  A couple of current/former band members of Reel Big Fish are from my high school, so of course I have seen them several times...from a free coffee shop show to the House of Blues.
