over the past few days... someone who i'm no longer associated with has been out on vendetta to discredit me.
it started with a mass mail to my myspace friends, which caused nothing more than a few eyebrows to be raised.
that was the reaction of people who know me in real life.
That was the reaction of people who know me in REAL LIFE. People who see me on a regular basis. People who can touch me. People who immediately effect me, and thus... matter.
Ouch!
All of a sudden... there was no question of my honesty. I was a liar. Bad enough. But no! Then I was an immature liar. Then a fat immature liar. Then an easily swayed fat immature liar.

I had a real bad night with the little man, but then a better night last night - he doesnt cry but he creaks and groans if I have the cheek to put him down to sleep on his own (with me right next to him!)
I think its brilliant. I used it for e-bay all the time, but recently my step mum wanted to give my daughter some money (shes in US, were in UK), and then we used it to transfer money - it was so much cheaper than the international transfer fee the banks would have charged us, and it was instant.

I am so curious now to know what exactly offended them because theres nothing there that I can see is even mildly offensive. It sounds like a scene out of the Simpsons with Ned Flanders and his kids.
the memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.

I suffered a long prayer too by a brother who wasnt too eloquent, and you could tell he was trying to get to the finishing words but it was like his mouth couldnt say them. Every time he seemed like he was winding up he sort of took a breath and found something else to say. Sad thing was poor guy was really wanting to finish but didnt know how to, and was running out of new thoughts to add.
I just wanted to shout 'for gods sake the words are 'in Jesus Name Amen'.

Halfway through the prayer I opened my eyes and peeked around me to see if every one was having trouble concentrating ... and sure enough, lots of people were shifting and opening / closing eyes etc.
We used to have elders at our congo that told people off for having their eyes open (I mean told people off individually!) It never occured to me for years to wonder how THEY knew which people had their eyes open.

Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood was banned on Radio 1, and it sparked a witch hunt in our congregation. A pair of elders was despatched to every teenager in the congregation for a meeting in their home, where we were asked 3 questions:
* what does Relax mean?
* are we engaged in any wrongdoing that we need to confess?
* do we know of any wrongdoing that the other teenagers are up to?
Very funny in hindsight, but very frightening and intimidating at the time for a 15 year old to be having this serious meeting when no wrongdoing had even been alleged - it was a pure fishing trip. Fortunately I was squeaky clean so was able to get on my high horse and say I thought it was a witch hunt and unwaranted. And they should look up the word 'Relax' in the dictionary.

Yup - 'Music That Debases' - a talk at a district assembly sometime in the late 80's. Following that all my friends purged their albums.
One friend was made to throw out all his Queen albums, and his younger brother snook out and stole them right in from the bin.
ELO was demonic because they had backtracking on a song - sure sign of messages from the devil. (it was the Secret Messages album - not so secret as it was in the title.)
Earth Wind and Fire was demonic because they conjured up spirits as part of their set and they asked any Jehovahs Witnesses in the audience to leave or it wouldnt work! (gotta be an urban piece of crapola)
MeatLoafs 'Bat out of Hell'. One friend bravely drew a T shirt on the bare torso of a girl on the front cover with a marker pen. The rest of us threw the album out. Sigh.
Led Zeppelin - they were self confessed the most demonised band out and Satan took one of their sons.
The only thing I can guarantee is that all the BEST music was thrown out, but then it must be true what they say - the devil has all the best tunes.
