  the jehovah's witnesses's founder was an attorney called "judge" rutherford.

  he saw everything, even religion, as a legal case.

  It struck me as quite sad and pathetic that Rutherford was so desperate to be a 'real' judge, that he gave himself the title and set up a structure in which he could act out his fantasty to lots of uneducated people by writing impressive books in which he got to pretend he was a real judge.

  He could talk about legalistic stuff and expound his knowledge of legal procedure, and millions of window cleaners and shop assistants whould go 'Ohhhh Ahhhh JUDGE Rutherford blah blah blah'. What an ego trip.

  my mum used to always tell me i should model myself on the clothes that we see people wearing in the wtbts propoganda.

  have you seen the clothes those people wear?

  errrk i mean there wasn't a bit of fashion about them.

  I cant see the pic, but I know exactly what you are on about!

  Every time I went out, my mum used to look me up and down and give me a look which was a perfect cross between withering, embarassment that I was her daughter and disapointment. ANd she always said "your not going out looking like THAT are you?"

  This was a rhetorical question. I just used to go back inside and change everything, as I was never quite sure exactly what THAT was referring to.

  Frog's first semester Uni results are in!

  i realise this is probably quite a dull subject for all my friends here, but this frog can't help but to share her happy moment, cause she's just bursting at the seams with self-congratulatory praise!.

  i just logged on to the uni website to get my long awaited semester one results.

  i knew i had done well with my essays, pop quizzes etc throughout the semester, but i attributed that to the fact that i had weeks to fine tune my writing and research.

  Frog, I hate to piss on your chips, but if you have got such good results then you cant have been doing all the things students are SUPPOSED to do, according to the dubs, namely experimenting with drugs and immoral sexual practises, engaging in extended heavy drinking bouts, contracting sexually transmitted diseases and falling pregnant.

  Tut tut, must try harder next term.

  But well done anyway, you seem to have mastered the side effects of university, namely getting a bloody good education.

  Dad's and daughters...

  lately i've been feeling incredibly frustrated by the relationship i have with a few members of my family who aren't attached to the org, or just hanging in by a thread.

  my dad is one such person, love him to bits, but he really gives me the sh*ts with his poor me act grrrr.

  i just get tired of always being the one who calls, who stays in contact, who visits etc.

  Wow thats great, frog. Whats a 'dad' again?

  Im guessing here, but is it that adult creature your mum looks after thats lives in your house, doesnt say much, doesnt wash, cook, clean, communicate, or do anything spontaneous? Sometimes leaves for a packet of cigarettes and never comes back. Or is it that mythical beast that inseminated mum, and was never seen again? Well, come on, that one ranks with Santa and the tooth fairy. Inseminated mum??? I dont think so. She just made that up so we would have something to tell the other kids.

  Hmmm, I must get myself one.

  what did you do as a child (or adult) to survive boredom during meetings?.

  as a child i remember sitting behind a sister with a pink angora sweater.

  i would pull of a bit of the lint from it and tilt my head back and place it above my lips a bit.

  I used to fill in all the O P D & B's in with ink. Gets pretty tedious.

  As a kid I used to roll my white socks down in as tight a roll as I could, then roll them up again, then down again tighter, then up again.

  Also at inside assemblies I used to count ceiling tiles, and make patterns from the large artex circles and squares at the back of the platform (Manchester assembly hall - anyone?)

  At outdoor assemblies I used to squint at the opposite stands and tell myself to look for all the clothes that were blue, or red, and filter out everything else. It made me feel like god looking for holy ones!

  I think patriotism is silly, really, but I am immensely releived to be living in a country that is so rich and that looks after its citizens so well, whether they deserve it or not.

  My grand plan would be to take every person out of the UK and dump them penniless into the middle of afghanistan. If they could make it back into the UK (like all those desperate illegal immigrants hanging onto the underside of trucks) they would have earned the right to stay and get all the benefits. If they couldnt be bothered to get of their fat arses then they would have earned the right to stop in Afghanistan. Our country would be great again!!

  My concession to patriotism is that I am always impressed at Scotch (hahahahahah you hate that dont you!!) people are very proud of their history, and know all about their historical figures pretty well.

  What have you gained?

  its two years since i last attended a meeting or thought of myself as a jw.

  despite the prophesys of doom and gloom for those who leave the org i have gained lots and lost nothing.. i have much more time to spend with my husband which has led to our relationship improving fantastically.. i have a better relationship with my children who stopped going to meetings when they were teenagers.. i have become much closer to my family (i've just returned from yorkshire from my great nephews 1st birthday party.

  my confidence has grown dramatically as i no longer view myself as worthless.. the guilt of not doing enough has gone.. i now have real friends.. the list goes on, but i really would like to hear what you've gained or hope to gain by leaving the borg.

  Ive gained a future.

  I remember not planning anything more than 6 months ahead because what was the point, the big A was just around the corner. Didnt go to college or uny while in the troof (3 years?? The big A will be here before I finish), didnt get a pension (how unfaithful, we wont be here that long). Every financial decision blighted by not needing to do any long term planning.

  Ive got my first pension and im 35 - what a crock.

  Im now catching up and having to mis spend my well spent youth.

  first they should have changed "godly obedience" to "society obedience".

  i have never heard obey the gb pushed so hard in all my years as i dub.

  all that submissive wife stuff is total crapola. Theres a time and a place for submission, and that is in the bedroom after the kids have gone to bed , NOT in the kingdom hall in broad daylight!

  Update on Mother in law problem

  hey all for those who read my post on inlaws and how they dont respect me heres an update.

  my fiance went around there last week to have a chat to them on how they dont respect me and how i dont feel a part of the family.

  and to tell them how things stand with his sister(my bridesmaid who turned up 2 hours late to engagement and drunk).

  Oh es, im sorry hunny. Its never going to get any easier. These stupid things just rumble on and on, and they will always focus on a specific incidents (well you didnt say hello to me when I saw you in the supermarket on Thurssday) instead of admitting that there is a fundamental problem with their relationship with you.

  Id try and avoid them as much as possible. Move to England. Do it before next week then you can come to the apostofest!
