  Well I am a teacher (in the UK) and when I told my class that in America a fanny is a perfectly acceptable work for bottom my students were UTTERLY DISGUSTED! (LMAO).
  
  They said "why cant they call it what it is instead of THAT?" (clearly EVERYONE in the WORLD uses the same words as my 14 year old students)
  And one student angrily told me NO Americans DONT call a bottom THAT, they call it a booty!! (clearly everyone in the USA fits into some rapping video stereotype held by a 14 year old girl in the UK.)

  Naturally this educational conversation killed at least 15 minutes where I didnt have to bother explaining the finer points of trigonometry.

  For those of you not in the UK the above link might not work because im not sure if the BBC has the Listen Again service outaside the UK. But if the link does work, the interview is just past the half way mark in the programme.

  Its excellent anti publicity for them.

  at one time the society taught that the generation of 1914 would see the end of this world.

  since the society always used the bible to explain itself i did the same.

  i thought, well the bible says our years are 70 or 80, if we have special mightiness.

  They set the sum up but they let you do the maths and come up with the answer. That way when nothing happens they can blame the R&F for being presumptuous and running ahead of jehoober.

  The real problem is they just cant stop doing it. You'd think they would have been burned by 1914, but no. They just cant help themselves, but they will always be careful so say ' we never said that date, some presumptuous ones ran ahead of jehoober and tried to second guess him'.

  our outlooks and perceptions of reality are varied and often fascinating.

  most of us are encouraging, funny, helpful and kind while others are still wrapped in bitterness and hatred or suffering from despair and privation.

  The Internet, JWs and Being Told Dont Use It.

  as a public school teacher and standing in front of a class room i found it a way to advocate something questionable such as a borderline tv show or the radio show of risquay djs by telling the class this was not good and they should not listen to these.

  knowing all the while the next morning on the way to school they would be listening to bob and tom in the morning.. so do any of you believe that some of the jws take being told don't use the internet is their que to open their browser?.

  That word 'Apostacy' is a trump card to them though. I was terrified of anything that might be apostate, in my mind it was just evil incarnate and if I even read as much as one sentence it would worm its way into my brain and cast doubts that I wouldnt be able to get rid of.

  What total piffle, I now know. Theres NO SUCH THING as apostate material.

  But the trump card worked. I didnt dare look at anything until several years after I had left. And I think it probably works with most dubs too.

  JW membership turnover - a real-life study

  much has been commented here on how jw's rely on an ever-changing membership for keeping their 'the sky is falling, the world is ending' doctrine fresh.. recently it was posted that fully 2/3 of born-in jw's leave at some point, and i thought you might like to see how this works in practice.. so lets take sam and i and our extended families - we were both born and brought up jw's.

  start with me.

  mum and dad were converted in the 1950's.

  I would agree that there was a heyday in the 80's, for my family too. My parents, and my mums sister and brother and their respective families all came in in the late 70's and had kids. There was a time through the 80's when the 'kids' were growing up (me and my cousins) and we all attended enthusiastically - 5 adults and 5 kids, 3 families. Since then everyone has fallen out except one cousin who has married and remained childless.

  All my other cousins have married and had kids and none of us attend.

  My one stoopid childless cousin has a big payoff not to leave because he is an elder and his wife is a pioneer. But they are the end of the line. How dumb are they gonna feel when ahm-a-gettin'em doesnt come and they are lonely old people with no family to cheer 'em up.

  its not blind prejudice, I just dont like guns. Its my opinion, not anything im trying to enforce on anyone else. And I didnt like the way CH supported a cause I personally oppose. Im entitled to my opinion and im entitled to dislike the gun lobby and famous supporters of same. I might be wrong, they might be wrong. Thats the beauty of opinions. You are allowed to have them.
