  if you wish to buy beachfront property, you should try to naturalize yourself, which would include the revocation of your previous country's citizenship.

  I understand ColdRedRain, and no I don't think it is racist to want balanced and fair control/regulation of immigration laws. I do believe we need to put the blame squarely where it belongs and that is this capitalistic government that wants to save money by importing labor where they do not have to pay for health insurance benefits, where they can use their labor for social security, and still allow them to live here without going through the immigration process.

  I know plenty of people, some of my closest friends who went through the immigration process the legal way. They paid thousands of dollars, were screened for health issues, criminal background and was not able to travel home until everything was finalized. For all of those that don't respect that, it undermines those that do. I still remember when one of my best friends became a US citizen, she was so proud, and she is a positive contributing force in this country.

  I truly believe that this is the new slave class for a lot of reasons, something that this country has never truly gotten away from.

  V, I really truly believe that you can find footage that is fair use or public domain. My advice is to go with public domain. Look for every online and offline (at a library) information that you can substitute, but if you believe they own this copyright, you have to take it off or else get a copyright permission - which could take forever. I have gotten copyright permissions in one day and others that have taken up to two months. Speak with the person who owns the copyright, apologize (ignorance always helps), that this is your first time doing this and that you would like to use their information. They could turn you down, they could say yes - and document it, with a written letter. If you need I can send you over a copyright permission letter, it's pretty simple. You fax it over, ask them to sign it, and they fax it back.

  I am not sure they will go for this, but with all the footage out there of JWs from news footage, it should be too difficult to get it. You will just have to pursue a permission or use public domain.

  I hope that helps. I support what you are doing and I don't want you to be dissuaded by this. It is a lesson about using other people's intellectual property and it will help you in the future, as you move forward.

  I don't think they own the copyright for this material, I really don't. Was this an email from an attorney? Until you get an official letter from an attorney, don't be intimated, but at the same time cover yourself. They can sue you and they can get you to pay monies for this usage if they do own the copyrights. My dealings with copyrights is that they are not the original owner of this work. The original owner is the WTS, unless they actually went in and taped this footage themselves.

  I think you should speak to an attorney about this. I have two friends that are civil attorneys, one who specializes in intellectual property. I would suggest having a one time meeting with an attorney that deals with intellectual property to help you deal with this. My suggestion is to disable it for the time being.

  The two congregations I went, it was nothing but a fashion show and a place to get your dose of gossip for the next month. Nothing else. I can't remember one memorial that I can commit to memory, they all run together. Oh, there was one, someone invited a new study and he ate the crackers and drank all the wine. I can still remember the gasps. Good stuff.

  i would love to get everyone's input on how each individual or couple has benefited from leaving the jw/wtbs as well as how their life is currently vs. being part of the organization.. eyes wide open .

  Yes in every way. I am more free, I can think for myself, I can enjoy all facets of life without the fear/guilt/mind controls. I have the Saturday mornings to myself. My friends are those who are on my own terms.

  I feel happy that as soon as I was able to make the decision for myself, I did at 18. And I have never looked back...

  My JW Daughter Calls Me - First Time in 9 Months - Great Conversation !

  as many of you know , me and my fading 23 year old son have been trying to reach out to my polite 21 year old jw daughter .

  sending cards, letters , phone calls just to let her know we love her, miss her , and remind her of good family times we've had in the past !

  not being pushy - just being authentic with her !

  Flipper, I am happy for you, persistence pays off. It made me a little weepy.

  My father is here today and over lunch, he asked me, "Was anything I did that kept you away from 'the truth'?" Again, he so sad about it, because he takes it so personally, but I just say no, change the subject and he was happy again.

  He's resting now, but we are going out to dinner later, (with some non-JW friends of mine), but I am thinking one day I am going to face him with some things, I am just trying to figure out how. It's so touchy.

  You are doing good. I am sincerely happy for you, flipper.

  Very good point, Jeffro. I don't think Knocking holds the copyright for this material. V, persue if you must, but I would suggest getting someone to film something similiar and putting it in or going to something that is considered public domain and using it. But always always remember to notate your sources.

  there was a time when i understood where i came from.

  most people from my hometown would have similar goals and aspirations.

  it has always been diverse and welcoming to outsiders, but now i feel like the outsider and not particularly welcome myself.
