YOUR DAILY JOURNAL
by compound complex indear friends,.
much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

What was your first "Real" job...?
by Casper inone where you were actually given a paycheck, & where did you end up after that , if you're in the mood to tell ?
there are a lot of intelligent people here with, i assume, some very interesting occupations.... but hey, we all had to start somewhere........ for myself, my first real job was at a local clothing store, imagine my surprise when at the age of 18 i realized just how much items were marked up...!!!
i priced the clothes at 3 times the cost to the store.

I have been working since I was 11 years old. I have spent approximately eight years in university (too long, but I love education), and I have worked in a few fields (well more than a few); taught, done social service, managed entire departments, and if you can imagine this, I still take classes once and a while. I would give more information on what I am doing presently, but I need to be a bit anonymous.
My favorite jobs were the most simplistic: Delivering papers, working in a pharmacy, helping homeless people, making sandwiches, and traveling for work - love to see the world on the job's dime. One day I came across a paycheck from when I was 16. I made a whopping $3.35 an hour plus comission. The funny thing was it was some of the best times of my life...
I always said when I retire, I am going to make sandwiches and start a foundation based on the profits.

Have you ever apologize to someone for trying to convert to JW?
by justhuman inthis is just a question that i will ask for the ex-jw's in this forum.
personally i did apologize to my friends in personal, for trying to convert them to jw's.it was a great experience!!!
i told them i was wrong and i was misleaded by a banch of false prophets, and i was really sorry that i tried to convert them to jw's.

No, I haven't, because I can't even remember one bookstudy I had that lasted more than twice. I do want to apologize for turning in some teenagers I knew when I was a teenager for inappropriate behavior. I was forced to do it, but the fall out of it, tore that family apart. I felt terrible about that for a long time when I left.

A Kinder, Gentler Armageddon?
by undercover inin another thread it was mentioned that a newer wt or awake stated that "god's battle is directed against those humans whom god judges to be incorrigibly wicked.
his war will be selective in destruction.
" which gives a somewhat less violent picture than what has been presented for years and years.. is this new light a change in the perception of how armageddon will be brought about or is it just pandering to the ignorant masses so as to not reveal the true belief that they're all doomed to destruction?.
-
Layla33
It does look like soft peddling of the doctrine to outsiders. Even if the "Kool-Aid" version still preaches total destruction, most JWs won't see the discrepency between the two presentations.
It's all about fear and control. If they soften it, it is just to chew it up to make it easier to "feed" to newcomers.

Very interesting...
I have long said that while there are things about Oprah that I truly admire and I have contributed to her school in South Africa, there is a guruish nature about her, that alarms me. I think she has the makings of getting so full of her own virtue that she can declare herself a prophet of some sort and cause millions and millions of people to follow her. I have read some rather disturbing theories about her rise, none that I can say are valid or not, but at this point I am just sitting back observing it all. One thing I can truly say is that I don't put her on a pedestal of any sort and see her as falliable as anyone else...

Just saw this article and I thought I would share it. Shows there is validity in dating a man that is somewhat less attractive, the relationships tend to be more happier and more fulfilled. Looks aren't everything.

Why do I cringe? Why am I still so bitter?
by oompa inmade my own personal statement by skipping the memorial, and then went to the next regular ol sunday meeting with my wife.
i tried hard not to pay attention, but still went nuts when the wt said things clearly not in the bible (which i don't even believe anymore!).
so why does this still bother me?
-
Layla33
Oompa I would be bitter as you know what if I had to sit through even one JW meeting. Once you realize it's lies and hypocrisy, you want to cease and desist activity and when you can't, you are liable to be a pretty bitter, unhappy person. Which is why I tell people, if you don't like it, don't go...

Bizarre Foods
by Layla33 inhave any of you seen the show, "bizarre foods with andrew zimmern"?
for some reason i have become a huge fan of this show and i am always interested in what kind of things people all over the world eat and how much of it i would actually even think of eating.. what is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?
and what was your response when you ate it?.

I PUKED!!! The most repugnant , disgustingly evil thing I ever was decieved into eating was , mind the spelling now, BALUTE....Something like that, perhaps our Fillipino friends can correct me. What it is, is this. The still in the shell fetus of a duck or a chicken.
While stationed in the Phillipine islands, I was ut with some fellow G I's and they said, " Hey! NMG, you just have to try this." Well, I had had a few too many beers, naturally, and said, "Sure, why NOT.?" I didn't see it come out of the shell, just a fork full was enough to send my belly spewing chunks!!!
NMG
I have actually seen people do it on a show, not this one though. It was some repugnant you know what. I think if someone asked me to do that or take a bullet to the head, I might just take my chances with the bullet. I mean it just looks very disgusting to look at, but to even consider eating it?! Some of the things that people eat and consider delicacy is just plain interesting...

I have eaten huge snails in the Carribean. (I loved it until I found out what it was, then no.) I have had chocolate covered ants, I saw nothing good or bad about it - I was indifferent. I have had pig intestines, hog stomach, (African-American, Italian, and Asian). I love pig intestines, however hog stomach will stay in my throat for about thirty seconds and then it is coming back up.
I refuse to eat the feet of any animal, I have been offered many times. Even eggs sometimes don't sit well with me.
Do share, I think it would be interesting.

Do you like yourslef?
by R.Crusoe ini find this question another i hate to think of!!.
i view myself through others which is a reality of zilch so it is bad karma for me to consider it!.
maybe its circumstantial of many life events but i'll bet exjws feel the power of the above dynamic as a negative force for humanitarian ectics and personal self worth!

I actually really like myself, I am so comfortable in my skin. And I think I am very funny/witty, which all my friends get a kick out of, because I always laugh very hard at my attempts of humor.
