My understanding was that all that JW designation did was get one a visit from a chaplain, not that the chaplain had access to medical records. I would definitely clarify that for future reference (with any minister-there are gossips in every religion). HIPPA laws do not allow revelation of medical history to anyone but authorized personnel, and I wouldn't think a chaplain is authorized unless they are specifically let in. I don't think claiming you are of a particular religion means that any member of that religion can examine your records.

The real purpose of the HLC is to make sure JW's take blood...
by besty in99% of jw's have no idea whats allowed and whats banned - too complex.. so most jw's tick the i accept nothing box.
this from an hlc member i spoke with some time back.
just to be on the 'safe' side, ironically.. anyway imagine the number of dead jw's there would be if this was allowed to run its course.. so imho part of the hlc raison d'etre is to make sure jw's take the blood fractions they are 'allowed'.. thoughts?.

As a non-baptised apostate, they can shun you for whatever they want to, and if give them any guff about their beloved organization, they will shun you. See, "you know the truth". They can put up with ambivalence, but not outright speaking out against it. give them the opportunity to question you about why you don't believe it. Tell them you would like to have a really frank discussion with them, but you are not willing to be shunned as an apostate for your views and would rather keep your family. That gives them an opportunity to declare that it is either a good idea to leave it at that, or they can say "be honest, we promise we won't shun you".
If you feel the need to say something, keep to some problem you have with their interpretation of the bible. NOT an attack on petty personal issues that they like to think everyone leaves for. That just gives them another mental cop out to responding in a real way to anything you say.

Was There a Fictional Work Helped You Realize the Truth About the (T)ruth?
by BabaYaga inthe pen really can be mightier than the sword, and even fiction often carries much weight and powerful messages.. did you read a book or watch a movie that made you think?
did an "entertaining" work plant a seed of doubt?.
the first one i can remember making a definate comparison to the witnesses in my mind was ray bradbury's martian chronicles.

There was a lot of childrens fiction that did make me think, the ones where kids live in a mind/body/thought controlled society and are trying to be raised up in the way that someone thinks they should go. . .Much of the fiction I read though was related to the holocaust=trying to prepare myself to survive one of my own if necessary. I got some great tips from "Escape from Warsaw" which I do remember vividly. In later years, after I left, I have reflected a lot on my fascination with such literature. But I think it led me out indirectly. I read The Hiding Place and the Diary of Anne Frank and many others of people who resisted evil. Can't read those without recognizing that others-chrisitans and non christians alike have experienced persecution and performed heroically christian acts -and their faith was in God or even just humanity itself- and their dedication was there-not in loyalty to an organization nor were they willing to die for the right to sell magazines.

1984 made me think, so did a tv show called "the Prisoner". Don't know exactly why that one did, other than it made me think about more mental kinds of prisons that are hard to escape from. Mindsets. Some would call the Bible fiction:) However, whatever you call it, it was my deciding to be baptised and preparing by boning up on the doctrine that kept running me into things that I couldn't believe-not in the Bible, but recognizing that the WT was not in harmony with the scriptures, either in fact or even in the spirit of it.

Those raised as JWs-Do you recall the path of doubts that led you to leave?
by ithinkisee ini posted a similar topic a year and a half ago.
i thought with all the new people it would be interesting to ask it again.

As a pre-teen/young teen, it was the messages about charity. As I got older it was the whole spirit of how they applied the bible. It seemed inconsistent with the context of the scriptures. Whether a person believes the Bible is true or not, the WT clearly appropriates it to the detriment of any positive messages of Christ in the scriptures. The reasoning book was filled with scriptures that were ripped out of context to prove things that they were not addressing in any way shape or form.
I didn't think we went and spread any good news. I really started looking at the message and it didn't seem to have anything to do with what the gospel was. At all.
I'm glad I'm out!

JW's on Facebook seem like happy people
by Smoky ini just recently got a facebook page and started to look up some old jw friends (im a long time fader).
i see there pictures and comments and feel kinda jealous that they all look happy (im in a rough stage in my life).
i never was happy as a jw, and since i faded i am more comfortable in my own skin....the future looks bright for me.

I was happy enough, but it wasn't cause I was a JW. My parents had a good supportive marriage. I felt guilty a lot (cause I was an imperfect JW and while self righteous, knew I never made the mark they set).
If the JWs on facebook look so happy, it might be cause they see the economy and the discouragement of people in this country and think it is just a 'sign' of the times and proof that the world is headed over the cliff-so to speak.

My husband is a birther. I am mortified just when he discusses it with me- I think he is destroying any chance to improve his career or make friends when he says lame ass stuff like that. I don't have a problem with discussing politics(policy), but this crap infuriates ME, and I voted republican!!! He looks like an ignorant racist. I never really thought he was racist until this came about.
They are bringing down the whole party with this nonsense. I do enough stupid crap on my own without THEIRS being imputed on me!!!

I saw that Firpo Carr guy claim that MJ's kids weren't celebrating a birthday party when the one they had with their dad was videotaped. He said "as Michael didn't enjoy-er experience birthdays as a child, he was educating his kids on what one would be like if they WERE celebrating it" (loose quote). I saw that on one of those psuedo news shows tonight and about had a monkey giggle about it:) I guess he is trying to explain why this (actually JW believing Michael) would have celebrated -er -experienced a birthday with his children.
That man is a creepy lemming and he has no manners-always wearing a hat indoors. Not even pretending to be a gentleman. (Ok, now I am just picking on him because I think he is a creep-but he wasn't taught right.)

Farkel, I used my original (copy of)my birth certificate till I was about 25. At which point it disintegrated after many moves and much use. I couldn't prove to you that I was born in the US. In fact, my kids were not given original copies-in my state after a child is born, we have to apply to the state for a legal birth certificate a few weeks after their birth and make do with a hospital paper until then that is not remotely a legal document.
The COLB is as legal a document as is available for most kids these days and for people in most states who need a legal copy after the original copy is lost (the 'original' copy that a person used to get WAS a copy of the one that the state keeps on file, not an ACTUAL original. And there is no sense in making a photocopy of the original as it isn't considered legal in any case. I made the mistake at one time of laminating my disintegrating one-thereby removing its value as a legal document.
My husband is from CA and they have nice photostatic copies avail still. Real pain in the butt to get them though, have to go to original county etc.
