My mom is old guard-nearly 70. She still thinks there is something to the 1914 thing, but isn't quite sure what that is anymore. I think that a lot of her generation to mine are confused about what to make of it-the shame of it is, the next generation doesn't even really have THAT to question as they are generally clueless about the twisted nature of the entire thing.

New Chapter, I think you are right-Einstein would be more open to his theory being disputed than probably most scientists today are-I understand that he had the open heart and mind of a child-not bound by preconceived ideas, not in a box. THAT is what made him so brilliant and creative. He'd be having a kick with this one.

Isn't it Einstein's THEORY that we are dealing with? He never said it is unequivable, indisputable truth, did he? Just curious. Science recognizes the idea of a theory, the WT doesn't give us the freedom to truly discuss their 'theories' as being such, but presents them as indisputable facts-until the new light starts shining, anyway.

I have lived here two years now and never saw as much talk about anything but the Egyptian revolution since I got here-and there have been plenty of things to go on at length about, as you all well know. There was nothing but talk of this on the news channels last night and my Egyptian husband is more gripped with this than he was with the revolution and he was quite gripped with that. There have been a lot of things treated with great seriousness here, but that one has been ALL over our news and is not even mentioned hardly in the US from what I saw. I was watching it all in arabic and tried to find something online about it and the biggest thing in the American news was some strike. Those guys like to cause trouble and are dead set on it right now-and there is plenty to cause. I am thinking this matters from both my immediate personal standpoint (in Iran's fallout area) and my hearts(my family is where Iran wants to cause trouble).
Just saying, in two years, I haven't worried much about what they are doing and they have caused ruckuses. I am concerned now. I do hope I am wrong and it all blows over as their nonsense sort of seems to-but the thingis, it doesn't really, we just stop talking about it.

I think that JWs are looking for an excuse or encouragement to leave. I think they like the encouragement that is offered implicitly when they see a person who USED to be a JW standing there, quite sanely, no horns or smoke emerging from their bodies, speaking like a normal, rational person. Throws them off, but lets them see that there is life beyond the Borg. That is why they will engage in conversation now-the more the WT tells them to avoid us bad, evil, mean apostates, the more fascinating we become. That was the truth even 30 years ago when i left. It is more so now when their mistakes, obfuscations, lies, distortions, and just plain meanness can no longer be ignored by even the most devoted JWs who really REALLY WANT to believe. If they don't acknowledge that they met an apostate, they have an excuse to stop by once again or hope that someone else will and get more 'dirt' on you. JWs also love gossip-they just don't want to be the subject of it. (Which is pretty much human of them:) )

I liked the James book, too. What we liked or can even see some value in today does not negate the fact that most of it was hogwash and even the relatively 'good' books are still infiltrated with WT propaganda and twisting. Unfortunately. I think there is NO mystery as to why studies of the scripture are not done in context. "James" got me to thinking more critically about the Bible and WT teachings. I left in 1981 and I think that is no small coincidence.

Israel is a huge part of the problem that we have in the region, basically because their interests are what cause us to interfere in ways that are counterproductive to our actual interests, which is counterintuitive. Between the money involved and religious fervour about Israels place in this "end of times" scenario, people have lost their minds. Oil/Greed influences, but it is the Israel part that gets us doing things that are counterproductive to overall peace and prosperity. Its all nice for the Israeli's, but not so much anyone else in the area.
