Mamachan, I too hated zucchini, but it is cheap and plentiful here and I found that it is good! Trick is don't let them get big. Any bigger than 6 inches is not good. Lightly saute rounds or cubes (bite size) in a tiny amount of oil or butter (doesn't take much!). With salt or pepper they are delicious, but a bit of fresh grated parmesean and they are BEAUTIFUL. Just takes a little bit of both the butter (because they are high in water content and if you slowly saute over low heat they will not burn) and the cheese, so it is really healthy. I often cook with onions in it, too, just whatever slices or chunks I am in the mood to cut. Very easy side dish.
Oh, a squeeze of lemon on it seems to be required in Egypt/Arabia. I think it is optional though.

I have no recipes to offer, but I do have a good food to tell you about. Baba Ghanoush is delicious! It is a dip/spread made out of aubergines (eggplant) and it is amAZING and delicious. I totally can't believe it isn't popular like salsa. Fresh-it is wonderful.Try some.
Yesterday for the first time I had a dish that is served usually for breakfast here- A lot of milk with cooked cracked wheat in it, sweetened. It is served (for those who are rich) with coconut, hazelnuts, raisins. It reminds me oatmeal only soupier and chewier, but still had that warm, mom is taking care of you kind of feeling to it. It is healthy and delicious alternative to regular breakfast cereals and often served as the sweet part of breakfast along with ta'amaiah (falafel to you folks).
Here in the region (I'm currently in Egypt), salad is often served with breakfast. Simple, chopped tomatoes, cucumber, onion and herbs(dill, parsley coriander, whatever you like) with a little squeeze of fresh lemon and some olive oil (if you have any).

What the hell was I thinking?! Stupid me!!
by freshstart inso my husband and i have a son who will be 2 years old next month and i really wanted him to be socialized more.
ever since we stopped going to meetings, we have been pretty much shunned even though there has never been an "official" reason for it (df, da..).
i am terribly introverted, so it's difficult for me to get out there and talk to people but our son is a people-person and i wanted him to have more peers to be around.

I'm with mouthy-Its good you found this out when he is so young. Now he won't have any horrible memories of it cause you will never go back there. Don't worry about what you did-yep, it wasn't one of your brighter moments. Let's blame it on pregnancy hormones, they are used to getting all the blame.
Preschool, music, baby sports classes, swimming. . .local food festivals and anything you see in the paper at the library or play groups. Just ask the other mom's. There is usually notices in local papers or online sites. Check with your local community center or chamber for any upcoming events. Parents groups (bigger ones) tend to advertise.
Just take him to the park and play. That is how kids make friends. The best friend of my childhood (whose mom was coincidentally in the org:( ) and I met at saltwater park near the swinger. Yes, way back when I was 3 or so I was a real swinger.:)
When you get out, you will meet his friends parents too, which will open up your world some-which is a good thing for your babies. I am happy for you with your new young family. I hope you have joy and health and peace and lot and lots of love and fun.

Serious Dissent Now Blowing The Roof Off Of Scientology
by mind blown inhttp://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2012/06/scientology_roanne_leake_ron_miscavige_sr.php.
multiple sources are telling the voice that scientology's international base in california has experienced stunning new defections -- roanne leake, who is l. ron hubbard's granddaughter, has "blown" the base, which was her home for more than 20 years.
but just as shocking, at about the same time, the base was also abandoned by david miscavige's father, ron miscavige sr.. we sent a request for comment to scientology spokeswoman karin pouw, but have not received a reply.

Sandra Lee's Mom was JW-unstable, drug addicted. . . .
by JWdaughter incheck out on jw news site jw-archive.org.
i found this in the process of searching for something else and was kind of surprised (lee is queen of holiday/birthday parties-that is what her cooking show seemed to specialize in whenever i watched).
anyway, this article was speaking about the very few things anyone knows of her childhood-she was raised by a jw mom who was mentally unstable, twice divorced, addicted to prescritption drugs.

I learned more of Sandra Lee-her mom is bipolar and alcoholic. Unfortunately like a lot of JWs in the world.
When we found out that my cousin was bi polar as a young adult, a doctor told the family (trickle down news, so take it with a grain of salt) that alcohol can trigger bi-polar switches in the brain. That the inclinations that might be genetically present are ignited by alcohol. I don't know if that is true, but how often do we see those two things cohabiting the same person? Bipolar is obviously a true mental disorder, but combine it with alcohol iand a kingdom hall(or any other kind of fundy group) and can you imagine the victimization that those who are closest to such a person would experience? OY!

She didn't know where her mom was as she hasn't seen her since before she was 16.
So, this writer, presumably a JW starts making these snide comments about Lee's "judgementalist" attitude and snarky remarks about why she mentions her mom was twice divorced (a fact maybe) when SHE is "living with" someone. Makes remarks about Lee not having to raise any children under difficult circumstances (well, Lee was responsible for her 4 younger siblings and on welfare and food stamps-you think that might have been a lot to deal with?)
She made comments about her mentioning her mom was 'unstable' "might her mother not have a few choice words to say about Sandra"?
I noticed that the commentator scrupulously avoided the part of the article that mentions that Sandra has not had contact with her mom since before she was 16. Does the writer want to address that the mom disappeared from her adolescent daughters life without any further contact-that would be related to the unstable part that Sandra doesn't explain further.
Anyway, I saw that the JW writer assumed the worst about Sandra and the best about the JW mom who, one way or another, abandoned her 5 children when the eldest was not even 16! I will have compassion for the mom, she ruined her life. I will not castigate Sandra Lee for not rehashing an obviously disturbing youth to a newspaper reporter in Kitsap County, WA or in her book (which is likely where the reporter got that little bit of information)

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes split due to religious fears!
by mind blown inword on the street is though katie holmes knew cruise is deep into scientology, she now has a better understading of this cult and wants to protect their child from the cult.
i guess tom and scientology has turned his and nicole kidman's kids against kidman.
now that suri is coming of age, holms does not want suri to become a scientologiest and is afraid this same outcome will befall her if she doesn't get full custody of suri .. the interesting thing is holmes is going to have to prove scientology is dangerous to her child and new york is not a joint custody/friendly state.

I think if she was "in it for the money" she would have stayed with him another 5 years! Lot more money that way. I hope she keeps her baby away from that creepy cult. He may be a nice person, but we know what cults can do to otherwise nice people.

Any reaction from active JW's about the Sparlock training video?
by UnConfused inare jw's all abuzz about the "blessing" the gb has given them in the form of this new training video?.

JWdaughter
By the way, I had mentioned it to her to say please don't show it to your grandkids, cause (my siblings) have already cut off a lot of contact with their kids. They watch her like a hawk with them. I know she thinks that thw WT tactics are very subtle and gentle and that giving the kids a video would perhaps go right over (at least) their parents heads. I warned her off the idea as the kids will hate it, firstly, and my siblings aren't stupid, secondly!

Mentioned it to my mom, she is going to assembly this weekend. She said "Of COURSE Jehovah's people didn't make a cartoon!" she hasn't even seen it or heard of it and I guess she will get an eyeful this sunday(?). On another note, her strong denial made me look up Anthony Morris. I finally found a pic of him on a pro JW website and YUP, it is the same guy, only a little younger than now.
