Thank you! I wish my mom or dad had gone to someone like you. My mom never would, but had my dad met anyone like you all, he might have dragged my mom out of the mess.

Counting tracts as placements on reports now?!
by stuckinarut2 inahhhhhh......man....... .
so now we have to count all tracts / leaflets / meeting invitations etc as placements on the monthly report slip???.
is this just another method of control or accountability!

Just makes the "numbers" look more impressive. Placing magazines was a lot harder than just leaving a leaflet in the door. Just wait to see the "numbers" explode and suddenly everyone is reinvigorated and inspired to do more!!

We thought it might be Armageddon when...
by cultBgone inwere there ever specific occurrences which you or those around you thought might be the start of "armageddon"?.
i remember 9/11 being such a day as it happened right as the meeting for field service ended.
it was the week of the c.o.

My mom still gets excited over the earthquakes and of course, 9/11/2001 was huge for her. Every good disaster is a phone call or mention of how difficult this old world is getting to live in. . . . Even a school shooting, a mall shooting or a bad weekend in the rough area of Chicago will get a note.. .it can't go on MUCH longer, can it???

President and pope both getting shot in a relatively short period of time seemed very significant way back in the early 80's when we were waiting for Eve's creation and still giving some credence to the 1975 nonsense. That was the end of it for me,though. Soon after I got out. Phew. !982 was a GOOD year for me!!

I remember "the Prisoner". Used to watch it late at night when I was babysitting. Totally creeped me out-a big huge ball chasing them out to sea (ok this is 40 years ago, I could be forgetting or imagining something)

Seafair is not just one weekend. The main weekend is not JULY 4th, but there are Seafair events that weekend and the 4th is a HUGE weekend in Seattle regardless. The lakes/water areas are overrun with families and traffic.
And yes. it is a port city for the cruise ships utilizing the Port of Seattle and the Seatac international airport. The cruise ship terminal is there and there are a lot of tourists staying there before/after cruises.
Any inexpensive hotels near the airport are about an hour+ away from the Stadium on a really good traffic day. Its not really convenient to visitors fromout of town. There are some options, but not a lot, probably. Any local knows it is an insane time to visit Seattle unless you have lots of money, lots of patience and lots of energy.
Good thing-if they have to bethere anyway, they will get great fireworks and it will be a fun weekend, even if you are stuck in a beating hot stadium all day. The bars and clubs will be crazy, lots of people looking to have fun, great restaurants (maybe a bite of seattle thing somewhere).
Visitors-go to Ivars and your kids will have fun the "The Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe" right on the Waterfront near the ferries and Ivars. Go on a ferry ride, too. It's gorgeous.

Originally I am from Seattle. I went to every convention there. Let me tell you a little about Seattle on the 4th of July weekend. It will be a NIGHTMARE for every poor JW who attends. Between the costs for rooms, the fact that the rooms near the Stadium are limited, the fact that it is a HUGE SEAFAIR WEEKEND in the UDISTRICT, which is notoriously difficult to maneuver at that time of year.. . or any. Well. Thank God I'm out for that reason alone!!!
Seattle is kind of perfect around the 4th of July. There are huge events on the nearby lake and Puget Sound. Mentioned earlier, there are cruise ships, general tourist nonsense and WEEKEND HOLIDAY TRAFFIC. Nightmare for anyone who is going to be trying to get to Husky Stadium. Lets remind you all too that the U district is notorious for the gay and lesbian community. All the fringe kind of people populate the area and I'm sure there will be some shockers to the wholesome atmosphere that the WT would like to enjoy. I think there are going to be some more fireworks than the kind they set off over the water!!!

Most of us don't bite. Do things that are fun and interesting to you and just enjoy them.If you meet fun people that you enjoy being around while you do things you like, you will make friends (who may know other people you wouldlike) just meet people with no expectations and enjoy LIFE.
