2.28 years of LIFE totally wasted. Not even just work hours. Over 2 years of LIVING just blown away. Just kinda sad.

I'd travel more and spend a lot of summer time with my son and my mom wherever they'd prefer, but I'd want a home where it is warm. I never want to be near snow. I want palm trees. I want a beach, sunshine and breeze. Maybe the Caribbean? Maybe the Mediterranean? Spain? I loved the ME and Egypt but will avoid Egypt for awhile:)
My "price is no object" home will have a very private garden with a pool in the back. And a maids room. Seriously, I would be such a hermit and live in the garden like a fairy:)

Was Charles Russell delusional or just a con artist?
by keyser soze ini've seen him referred to as both on this forum.. did he sincerely believe that he was an inspired prophet whose end-time predictions and biblical interpretations came from god?
or was he just a shrewd businessman who saw a market of disillusioned christians who believed that armageddon was imminent that he could exploit?.
i personally lean toward the latter.. .

Didn't he sink his personal wealth into ventures which the courts would not touch so that his ex wife would not get any kind of settlement or alimony? It seems like (from what I remember) his reason for moving to NY had less to do with shipping issues than it did with getting out of the long arm of Pennsylvania law and his ex wife.

My jw mum threw us out.
by abbasgreta inmy brother (non-jw but became a christian 6 months ago) and i nursed my aged jw mother back to a semblance of strength over the last three weeks.. the elders were happy to pass the buck on to me, her da'd daughter and my bro.. he has been living with her for 3 months and has transformed her ill-kept home and garden and literally nursed her like a professional alone.
before i stepped in to help him care for her.
he repeatedly told her how much he loved her and was so caring, it brought a lump to my throat.. he has been going to church sunday mornings, telling her he 'was meeting up with friends' so as not to cause friction.but she knew where he had been.. we noticed a shift in her demeanour towards us (she knows i'm a church-goer) over the week-end and she started to.

I'm sorry that your mom is this way. I'm glad you and your brother have each other. I am sad for your mom because she ran out on the people that actually loved and cared for her and I doubt that the congregation will pick up the slack.
I think the newest WTs are scaring JWs off of dealing with anyone not JW. They will get the benefit of their own perfidy, I guess when all the elderly JWs run off their caregivers.
Very sad. You got out alive and safe though, which is good. Appreciate it.

The 7/14 APOSTATE study articles are preparing the rank and file for new light!
by ADJUSTMENTS ini believe the last two wt studies in the 7/14 wt study articles were planned for this exact time and did not come about by happenstance... the jw cult is preparing the rank and file for some faith altering "new light" to be announced fairly soon, and these scare tactics will do just the trick.... the articles are preparing the rank and file to become apostataphobic, they have the rank and file in such a frenzy, even have them questioning themselves and their own motives for being in the borg!.
with paragraphs like:.
if you hear someone that has doubts or questions about the borg avoid them like the plague, and tell your local elders, but don't judge them!!!.

People on this very site have told us of how they try to sneak in subversive ideas during comments and talks. Maybe Brooklyn is just trying to raise awareness of such ones :)
Seriously, JWs that are subversive are not that way by accident unless they are innocent children commenting on the obvious nakedness of the emperor. The adults know how they are supposed to think already.

You did a good job-a good deed, even. You can go forth and enjoy life knowing that you didn't leave the nice lady without the information-all you can do is ask the questions, you can't make her think. You asked some good ones though, so you should sleep well at night.

Early Christianity and the Punishment of Back-sliders
by fulltimestudent infrom the writings of tertullian comes this picture of repentant sinners around the year 200 ce in north africa.. locate yourselves in the stream of time.
accepting for the moment the conventional dating for christianity, this is a little more than 150 years after christian communities were first established.
no one from the first century is still alive, but possibly there were grandsons and daughters of some of the original christians.. .

QUESTIONS and ANSWERS with NT scholar Prof. Bart Ehrman
by Terry inthe following is a tiny excerpt from bart ehrman's blog of which i'm a member.. this particular entry contains questions and answers about the nature of translating the new testament.. .
did the fact that early christian scripture was written in koine greek have an effect in how the religion was perceived by the pagan elites and imperial family?
in other words, did that make the religion look bad or koine greek was acceptable?

I had a year of spanish and a decent grade and I can barely ask where the bathroom is. I doubt that everyne is as incompetent as I am on the subject, however, there are some other realities of the NT that are more significant than merely translating it. I think this info about the greek and the translations in general though is very interesting.

It's my birthday today
by Bruja-del-Sol in... but most of my new (post jw) friends either don't know my birth date (if people don't specifically ask i won't tell them), or they are 2500 kilometers away in the netherlands... so all that's left to celebrate with me are my hubby, the two doggies, cat and my two rabbits... mixed feelings, i miss my friends and family around and haven't found friends in spain yet.
luckily our daughter will visit us the end of the month... and yesterday we've found a new rental house and we're moving into it next month already!
i'm thrilled and really looking forward to it, then we will finally be able to let all the rest of our belongings come to spain (2/3 of our stuff is stored in the netherlands).. so with this in mind, i'll just say 'happy birthday to me' and will enjoy my third birthday in espana .

A rose by any other name..............
by sparrowdown ini'm curious, why and how did you choose your username?.
does it hold any special significance for you, is there a share-able back story?.
for me sparrowdown is a playful reference to matt 10:29 and the title of the movie black hawk down.. matt 10:29 was my go-to scrip to "prove" that god cares about us as individuals.
