NEW LIGHT ALERT! TARGET 2015 END TIMES! EVE WAS CREATED 40 YEARS AFTER ADAM! THE END IS NEAR!
by Trailer Park Pioneer inthis is going around the kingdom halls now, i thought it was a hoax but are not all the end time dates produced by the organization some hoax or con?
the reason why the end did not come in 1975 was the watchtower society had not put eve's creation in their equation.
i was told when we had a "meet and greet" if "we knew the date of eve's creation we would know the year jehovah was going to destroy the earth.. it's been 40 years since 1975, can you believe it's been 40 years since "stay alive till 1975!"?

After 2015, the number 70 will become significant. Then 70 x's 77! They could play with that so long that NO ONE remembers 1914 anymore. -

Early Morning Informal Witnessing, Yay!!
by kairos inhow many of us would get up and "start your time" by 6:00am or earlier?.
i sure did my fair share and convinced many others to join me semi-regularly.. we'd stand out in front of "somewhere/something", you remember?.
donut shop, 7-11, liquor store ( genius ), driving to laundry rooms or coin-op's, etc... anyway, this past sunday i was pumping fuel for the long trip home early in the morning out of l.a. to norcal, when i spotted a young, energetic version of myself 20 years ago.

Did you ever get a chance to tell him that the WT itself tried to issue an excuse (that was too little, too late). -

Me and my brother.
by nicolaou inan earlier discussion has been highlighting the differences between da'ing and df'ing.
xena said:i am sorry qadreena but i have never in the 20 some odd years i have been a jw ever heard of an unbaptised publisher being d/aed...marked as bad association yes..but d/a...no...but i guess stranger things can happen.... well that brought it all back.. actually xena the exact same thing happened to my brother in the early 80's.
he was only 14. he'd carried on associating with a friend of his who'd been disfellowshipped.

Nic, you made me cry. I was 15 when I was DA'd. Not for anything particularly valorous like standing up for a friend!
Your poor brother! He hadn't learned much of the TTATT, just enoough to know to be loyal to a friend. I think that the WT creates a lot of the trouble that they see in ex JWs. Totally alienated by your society leads to outlaw behavior as you struggle to find a place. I am so glad you have each other again and especially that he overcame that early trouble became the man that he has.

Pope's Powerful Christmas Message
by skeeter1 inpope francis has denounced the "brutal persecution" of religious and ethnic minorities, in his traditional christmas day address.. in his second "urbi et orbi" - to the city and the world - christmas message, the pontiff highlighted the plight of victims of conflict in syria and iraq.. "too many people are being held hostage or massacred" in nigeria, he added.
pope francis also urged dialogue between israelis and palestinians and condemned taliban attacks in pakistan.. tens of thousands of people turned out on st peter's square to hear the argentine pope deliver his annual message.. he said christians in iraq and syria had endured conflict for too long, and "together with those belonging to other ethnic and religious groups, are suffering a brutal persecution".. "may christmas bring them hope, as indeed also to the many displaced persons, exiles and refugees, children, adults and elderly, from this region and from the whole world," the pope said.. .
******and, what did the governing body talk about when they addressed the world of jehovah's witnesses earlier this month?

I think the pope has actually done things. A speech is just that, but he has been DOING things that are shaking up the church. Excommunicating thugs and criminals. He has set up meetings with abuse survivors and has set up a commission to truly address the issue in the church and demand accountability. That is already a 100% more than the WT has done for the victims.http://www.alternet.org/world/pope-appoints-british-child-sexual-abuse-survivor-church-commission
I don't defend a church. I am commenting on the lesser of the evils and right now, the WT is making the church look relatively good.

Status of people shunned before rule change?
by rebel8 inback in the early 1980s, some congregations were "disassociating" unbaptized people who committed alleged disfellowshipping offenses and weren't repentant.
it was announced from the platform in the same way, "so and so is disassociated," followed by 1 scripture about shunning and another about the specific sin that person had committed.
the ritual shunning was exactly the same as dfing.

I was DA'd and no JW outside of my family ever spoke to me again. My mom went through a few times when she refused to speak to me, but she got over it. My dad is dead now and he was what kept her from letting it go on (cause he liked me and was not a JW) so I don't push any of her buttons and she tries not to push mine. I am much better at it though and put up with a lot of the JW speak if only because she really isn't even realizing half of it. The other half-well, I can make her a little nuts by NOT responding/reacting and that is as much fun as an lively discussion thatI KNOW she wants to have and Im not rising to the bait!
My aunt is a pioneer and was DF'd several times. She talks to me. Lots of JWspeak but I just let it float on by. . .she is (not to be unkind) lacking in every kind of smarts. As she isn't doing drugs and drinking, she is probably better off a JW. They ruined her in her youth, but now that she has nothing left, they are some sort of comfort to her. It is sick, but what are you gonna do? She converted her poor (4th) husband. In her late 50's, it is probably as good as she is gonna get. She is a sad case.

Do do do do do you remember..
by tim hooper indoes anyone else recall the big chart that hung at the front of every kingdom hall?.
it would be about 5 feet x 4 feet.
on the side of the chart, vertically listed, were the months of the year.

I'm too young to remember that (and I remember LOTS) but there is a picture online of it that I have seen.
I guess stopped making a huge sales progress board when they decided to pass themselves off as an actual religion.

Its real nice that they are being asked to simplify their lives, give up everything and work free for one of the richest property development firms in the world. Building buildings for the org while they have wives and children living in travel trailers.
How DID the thing with Jim and Tammy end? Besides not well? People kept putting money into things that were not being built or they were not getting the use of...
When JWs are hounded incessantly to give more and more for less and less-are they going to ever clue in? That they are making their buildings more resalable is not surprising. That is sounds like they will be more vulnerable is kind of logical....Now, a window breaks and they can start feeding the fear monster so that everyone is happy when they sell and move to other premises, building again, pushing for more donations.
I reallly think that the building frenzy is a way of hiding the LACK of growth. While in some areas there is more growth, I know of family members who had 6 congs meeting in one hall until 2 were consolidated into the other congregations. They needed a new hall a lot more-just 2-3 years ago, than they do now, didn't they?
Remember the article a few months ago about meeting in basements? That is what they will all do as they sell of the halls claiming persecution (maybe some paying off of Conti and othervictims). It won't all be to pay off, they will play their games for more money and then build NEW and MORE halls.
I don't know and cannot even fathom what they will do with all the money, but I know that they are not now being honest about money or expenses, they are building $$$ Warwick that is the cost of building hundreds or thousands of halls-on its own. That isn't necessary. That is them building the VERY BEST for a very few people to live in while others are told to give up their lives and for their families to live in poverty.
OHHHH, what a loving arrangement.
OH and the rhetoric? It sounded exactly like what the televangelists use to manipulate. All the scriptures to tell the story they want to tell.

Yeah, the contrast of the WT special meeting to the Popes speech was-wow-surreal,really. Absolutely no acknowledgement of anything that truly mattered in the world by the WT sock dude.
The pope is trying to change actions and attitudes of the HEART. The WT wants to change your underwear.

Laverite, after reading about your grandma, I don't know if it is that inevitable that she will ever pass away. She seems like cast iron!
Does she want to go out in service/meetings or is she being compelled in some kind of way? That sounds like a rough schedule for an 80 year old! Let the woman stay home and watch jeopardy!
Would there be a reason to contact your local senior services to maybe give the person dragging her around some counseling (or a little scare?)

I like this new pope. He wasn't elected by "the people" after an election season. For him to now state his stands and his intentions is not a bad thing. If nothing else, it gets people thinking and hopefully working together to bring the changes about. He is the head of the church, but he works with all the leadership all over the world, and if they don't know what he is up to, then how can they offer their input?
The doctrine of the church is not what is holding it back so much as it is the culture of the church, the politics of various parts of it and tradition. Most people recognize a lot of the issues, but none of them can make sweeping changes alone, but contributing their insights and experience with the many local changes that have been made will be useful.
I think one of the best things about this guy is his sense of really being a servant and really there to help. Not rule, not run the show, not to make the rules. If I turn out to be wrong, I will be sad, but every bit of good that each one of us can do is a blessing, even if it is for just one person. Therefore I am not going to be negative about one guy who is trying to do good for billions. He had to balls to speak up against the mob. Who does that?
