It's interesting that the doctors were reluctant to provide care that would orphan the child, but the parents just stood their ground. Honestly, I am Bout Terry j's age and I don't doubt that his parents said that, or that at that time that such a stance was not encouraged by the org. Not in print, but here's betting you that the parents were the hero's in some assembly or several.

JW child first pediatric patient to receive acute normovolemic hemodilution - 1970
by OrphanCrow inacute normovolemic hemodilution.
hemodilution simply refers to the process of diluting the blood with another substance.
there are various ways that this is done before, during and after the surgical process.

They threatened to not take their child home if he was given blood? I fault the state agency that didn't rescue the child from such abuse. Totally monstrous parents.

We all "shun."
by stillin inan old friend of mine committed suicide this week.
he was a great guy; pleasant to be around, a hard worker, kind.
everybody at work liked him.. then something changed.

My mom's shunning behavior is not related to my lifestyle, but rather, to any though or word that exposes the ugliness of the wtbts to her. For example, sharing an article about the institutional response to child abuse in various religions and secular organizations, including hers. She threatened to cut me off unless I removed it from my Facebook. Because apparently if I did that, the world would never know! The dirty secrets would remain.
That is not the same as not hanging out with a friend who is doing things that are physically unpleasant to be around and who is frankly doing things that endangered himself and anyone unfortunate enough to be in his vicinity. I am so sorry your friend had the issues he did and that he disconnected himself from you, but you would have answered his call. JW leadership commend you for ignoring it.

how can navigate if our desire is for absolute truth...
by Ruby456 inor do we give in to social constructivism?
to relativity?
or is there a way to be real and then to say whats real that everyone agrees to?.

Always seek truth, knowing that perfect, absolute truth will escape your grasp. In the meantime, be grateful for the good in your life and generous with kindness, time or money if you have any.

Worshiping a piece of stone
by FedUpJW intoday one of the members of the local congregation who is somewhat limited intellectually was showing off a small bit of cut granite stone.
as he did so he made sure to let everyone know that it was given to him by the congregation service overseer who just completed his second or third round of bragging rights slave labor at warwick.
he mentioned that, "brother _______ gave this to me as a piece of reality from warwick.

Nathan, many faiths perform pilgrimages. Jews go to wailing wall in Jerusalem. Catholics go all over the world. Hindus go to the Ganges (or some river). Mormons go to the salt lake temple. Jews-observant traditionally pray in the direction of Jerusalem. Christian churches used to have a particular orientation to the east-related to resurrection. With exception of the Ganges-im unfamiliar with details of Hinduism, I dont believe the place or direction is the object of worship. Muslims pray to god. They do not believe god is living in a rock or building in mecca. Having been to makkah, mecca. . .I can assure you muslims are not under the impression that god is that place. Its just a ritual with symbolism, but faith is in a god without a body of flesh or stone. A Muslims righteousness is not judged by the direction in which they pray.

Lessons learned from the outcome of bloodless emergency laparotomies on Jehovah’s Witness women
by OrphanCrow inthe wt has promoted bloodless surgery as a viable (and better) alternative to surgery with blood transfusions.. i have found a medical study that has been used to back up these "evidence based" claims.
the title of the article is lessons learned from the outcome of bloodless emergency.
these mostly indigent patients died of peritonitis becauseof delays in payment for antibiotics.

A recent course of antibiotics at Wal-Mart cost $30 &change. Checking later at Costco pharmacy, it was about $12 for non members at Costco and $6 for members.
I think many of us might sleep better at night if we disseminated this information. I had no idea. Standard Z-Pac. A fraction of the price at Costco.

Did Crisis of Conscience find a market or did it lumber along until the copies ran out?
by TerryWalstrom incuriosity.i would think c of c was the grand-daddy of all the ex-jw books.is there any way to know for sure how many copies sold?
over what span of time before the 1st edition ended?
why did it peter out of print if it was a perennial seller?today, every tom, dick, and jasper has self-published the bleeding wound, 1st person singular, true confessional version of their own fall from grace.

Most refugees are fleeing from extremism. The WT is just a different kind, but will appeal to war weary mamas being love bombed and likely fed.
JWs are not the only mission groups. I met a family who was headed to Greece and Turkey to minister as missionaries to refugees. Some kind of evangelical church.

Anyone hit your panic button on your house alarm system by mistake.
by James Mixon ini feel like a idiot but what was the respond time?
within 5-7 minutes my street was blocked off, i received.
a call from the police dept.

I dont think so because the machine showed that I turned it off in time. The 3 hour delay didnt get him out if contract though. The alarm company may have had a fine since they wrongly dispatched them. Crazy thing is that police station was 3 miles away, easy quick trip and it was a weekday morn, not a high crime timing. I thought it was the mormons who showed up regularly and just peeked out because my two years old granddaughter is an escape artist. Quite a morning!
