so, today i went to a different church than the jw's for the first time in over three years.. it is a protestant african church.
my first thoughts: for people who are 'trapped in babylon the great (according to watchtower) these people really seem genuingly happy and sincere in their adoration for god.
what a freedom compared to the witnesses!
I think lads churches are less worshippy than some churches but there is definitely a more generous spirit in the place and the church fosters fellowship and encourages community interaction and participation and fosters relationships in he congregation.

The mom beating her kid because she was afraid of him abusing her. Being chastised publicly was like a fate worse then death. The WT is the same, just larger scaled and slightly (not much) more subtle. Solitary confinement as a way "to get through to" people that he actually thought was a good way!

by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.
I think the WT holding on to money while impoverishing the CCJW is nefarious. I hope the courts end that shell game.

So, I saw this ad and it felt so uncomfortably familiar. And weird somehow. Then it struck me, it was created possibly by the same people who did Caleb. It wasn't just the graphics. Its the sappy preachiness. I know that graphics programs can be similar, but I swear the voices were, the expressions were, and the entire story line seemed remnicent of the WT kid vids.
maybe it's a british thing, but we tend to be polite.
too polite.. even if someone is inconsiderate, we apologize as though we did something wrong.. prime offenders?
people in supermarkets, specifically costco.. they have nice wide isles and yet somehow, for some reason, some idiot will find a way to put their trolley sideways and keep a hand on it while reaching for something, thus blocking the entire isle.. or another favorite ... you're going through the entrance and someone just stops, maybe to answer their phone.. how about you wait in a queue at a checkout for ages and when it's their turn, then they start looking for their purse.. how many times have you thought "idiot" or muttered under your breath?.
I never thought of Brits as being too polite. They are usually just rude in a smug supercilious way. I never thought you were too polite specifically, and forget that you are British. You are an immigrant to Canada, right?

a former priest at holy name of jesus catholic church on wednesday sued the diocese of palm beach, claiming it punished him for exposing a pedophile priest rather than covering it up as they wanted.. the lawsuit, filed in palm beach county circuit court, accuses the diocese and bishop gerald barbarito of defaming the rev.
So, the issue boils down to whether the church discouraged him from reporting or whether they in fact reported it immediately to the authorities.
Time will tell, it seems there are some facts that can be established in this. Was he punished for telling or for claiming that the church was trying to force him into silence when they claim he is lying about their role? Was he silenced or is he defaming the church? Interesting.
