Interesting book I read recently called "The Secret Supper" tells of an ancient religion-the Cathars, which believed (if I recall correctly and understood what i read) that the OT God was Satan. They believed that Peter was a betrayer and betrayed true christianity and that the Roman Church was corrupt from its root(Peter). Book was very interesting, lots of history, information about Leonardo(Da Vinci) and others of his time. Historical murder mystery-sort of.

Ann Coulter.
by Blueblades inwhat are your thoughts about her?
there has been some controversy about her lately.

I recently heard Al Franken for the first time and was surprised. The Big Fat Idiot title of that book led me to believe he would be a neandertal(not that I have any special fondness for Rush Limbaugh), but I found him to be witty, articulate and thoughtful-even though I often disagree with him. Ann Coulter is something else! Someone needs to give her an off switch, cause she can sound smart and decent and then descend into stupid faster than a bullet train. I have been switching back and forth between conservative and progressive radio. Makes me feel kind of discombobulated sometimes! It has got me thinking more though, and helped me see what both sides are saying. Gotta say, they often vie with one another for ridiculousness. Then I turn on my country music and remember that it all comes down to doing the best for the people I know and those I love-If I am my best, kindest person, I am part of something GOOD, and I don't ever have to defend that.

Spent time in the ER this weekend with my husband........seizures.......
by Alana inmy husband has epilepsy, but only nocturnal seizures and he has had it very much under control.
in fact, in the 5 years that we've been together, i've only witnessed about 5 or so seizures....and they have been mild ones.
however, due to the side effects of his meds (weight gain, etc.

I hope your husband finds the right dose of meds quickly. What a horrid weekend for all of you. May this week improve immensely!! Shelly

A certain person I am aquainted with thinks that it is only a weak character that causes one to drink 'hard' liquor. He drinks a lot of beer though, . . .anyway, to annoy him, I like a screwdriver-mostly cause I don't really like alcohol much and that way I can't taste it. (OJ and vodka) unfortunately, this only hurts me, cause while I can't taste it, it can waste me. I don't drink much and wouldn't care if I never did again. I only do it to prove (to whom???) that I am a grownup and I can. At 40, I probably need to get over it already!! My family has some alcohol problems, so I am GLAD I don't like the stuff, but sometimes I wish I was even minimally educated about it all-the other day I was trying to follow a recipe that called for tequila and margarita mix. . .They are not in the same department, they don't come mixed and asking what color tequila is makes one look like a fool. The chicken was really awesome though!!!(marinate a chicken in 1/2c. tequila, 1 c margarita mix, juice of two lemons and limes, zest of one each and 2 t. salt) BBQ or Broil. Preferably use chicken with bones and skin(more flavor/moistness, can remove skin after cooking) DELISH

"When I was a Jehovah's Witness, I NEVER felt that the Governing Body cared anything about me as a person, or even the local elders. I was simply a loudspeaker for their doctrines and a money machine. My fellow Witnesses were suspicious, paranoid, snoopy, and out to find some reason to make trouble for each other. Yuck. Plus I hated the world and life when I was a JW. I couldn't wait for the system of things to end, for the great trib and battle of armageddon." ElderBarry
That is exactly the difference that I noticed. There was always some expectant hush when there was an announcement from the front that there was going to be a discipline such as reproof, DA or DF. It was a morbid fascination, followed by unseemly gossip. There was tattling and troublemaking all over. It is a very sad culture. That was not the case with the LDS church, and some of their doctrine I think seems much more Christlike than much of what I see in other churches-even if I don't think it revealed in the Bible. I am probably at a point where I could be more comfortable attending without believing every last bit of it than when I was a young girl and felt guilty about it.
THe gleeful expectation of armageddon at every news flash creeps me out. As an adult, 20 years out of the org. I still get anxious at every breaking story. When I was a kid Malawi was going on and I lived in fearful expectation of being sent to a concentration camp or something. Mormonism is a much kinder culture to raise kids in!

Thanks for holding the door.... *** SMACK ***
by Elsewhere inyesterday something happened that really pissed me off.
i was walking out of a store that has two doors you have to walk through... the inner door and the outer door.
basically a small foyer.. as i'm going through the inner door i notice a woman is behind be so i go on through and hold the door for her... she went right on through without a word and then went through the outer door, pushed it open and then let it fly back into my face.

I always appreciate courtesy, and always try to offer it. We are all just humans and should be kind to each other. I compliment strangers(male, female, children, babies) which freaks out my teenagers, but if someone looks nice, has a beautifully behaved child or does a great job, today might be the day they REALLY need that acknowledged. And if the child is being obnoxious, sometimes offering a smile and a hand with the shopping cart or whatever can be a lifesaver(spoken by mom of occasionally obnoxious kids).

Located a JW publication...
by Jim_TX inlast saturday, my fiancee and i went out, and wound up in an indoor flea market walking around.. we went past many many stalls... people were selling any and everything that you could imagine - and that would fit within a cubicle of about 10-feet by 10-feet.
(some were larger, too.).
well, we found one stall that the fella had used books - and he had pretty well organized them by 'topic'.

I sell on Ebay and occassionally sell old WT publications. I FREQUENTLY have a JW challenge me on it. I was told I was breaking copyright laws, plagarizing etc (this person is not too bright or literate, obviously)by selling WT publications which are given (according to him) FREELY. Most of the publications in question were from days when they were SOLD at the literature counter. I have no issues with selling them. Some of them I had purchased from the lit. counter or a reseller myself. I own them, I have a right to sell them. One JW accused me of getting literature from the org just so I could re-sell. From my most recent experience years ago, that would be more trouble than its worth-anything remotely difficult to find is just that because it takes forever to get them from the org. Many of my customers are JWs who are sick of waiting for their literature to arrive from Bethel. One lady could not get them to send her a big large print Bible to save her life. I don't know if it is a Bethel issue or a counter/lazy issue. Since all the pubs I sell are used, I obviously am not trolling the local KH to steal their literature:)

Did you ever do this to pass the time during the talks?
by free2beme inyou get a new bible, and as you opened it, you notice that the pages all stuck together in these onion skin thin pages.
so you start separating them, with that crack snip and then separated sound.
that was fun, let me do another, i wonder if i could get through all of genesis before this guy finishes his talk.

BTW, too young then to have sexual fantasies, but had I stayed in about 6 mos longer, my hormones would have short circuited my brain and I would probably have been a lot less inquisitive about scripture temporarily, anyway.

I was always doing mental math-who was alive when so and so was alive. How old was Methusaleh when Noah was born? All the JW math made me weird that way:) I was always trying to figure out how they came up with THEIR numbers. I often would be listening to a talk and mentally arguing it, looking up scriptures that refuted it. . .The WT talks with the preprinted discussion questions(yeah, discussions-uh huh)often were answered by me in ways they did NOT expect. My mom told me to stop trying to be "clever". I wasn't trying to be a smart ass, I just figured discussions were discussions and studies were supposed to require study. Sometimes I went out of the 'paragraph' so to speak. I imagine some of the old timers are laughing about me even now:)
