  My mom's mashed potatoes and gravy followed by my aunt Lynns yellow Layer cake with cream(real!)chocolate frosting-thick.

  i got a job today that i have waited for two years for.

  this girl i work with has sang at shows having erika badu on the lineup and she just got signed with a record contract.

  Awesome, your stars must be aligned or something (that I don't really believe in, but I love it when positive things are happening all over the place-don't you?). So now we know somebody who knows somebody who is gonna BE somebody that we will know-of. Cool.I will keep you in mind for when my son makes it big as the next. . .Josh Groban or Pavoratti or something like that!

  i was raised a witness, and was one for 18 years of my life.

  now at 21 i'm very much out of it (the organization that is).

  i still have a few friends that are in the organization.

  I second the books by Ray Franz-huge, organized into simple self contained chapters and easy to read (if sometimes not terribly fascinating-sometimes they were VERY fascinating.)If you are interested in what the Bible says, just read it without any WT helps and see what it says to you.

  how many religions have a central, organized body?

  i can think of 3 offhand-the wt society/jehovah's witnesses, the roman catholic church and latter-day saints/mormons.

  any others that have a main hq that sends out doctrine?

Any others that have a main HQ that sends out doctrine? I am not sure if Scientology is a 'religion'. The Pope, the Governing Body and the (LDS) Prophet are the only 'heads' that I know of that are looked to as such.

  i am so sick of this woman, and her fame for simply being born into a rich family.

  i am just waiting for the day that we get to see her name in the obituary and not on the front of some magazine to say what a great thing she has done, when she found a lost dog.

  i actually like the movie, "house of wax", as it does allow you to see some damage done to this woman.

  Shelly:I should have said people like that. I have heard so much of religious fundamentalists-terrorists and others-say that America is so corrupt, so licentious, so wasteful, greedy, lazy, so blatantly selfish and self serving that we are an abomination in the world(or to God, Jehovah, Allah). . .So when people that simply glory in bacchanalian excesses are constantly celebrated in the media, that is all that some people can see. And the contrast is so great(from modesty and decent living) that they justify their attitudes that we all deserve to die-whether by Gods hand or their own. This is an ex-JW site. Anyone remember all the JWs (and various other kinds of fundies-I have been guilty) saying that this world is so wicked that it is inevitable that God should destroy it? Is the nice family from Iowa having a bbq being shown? No, a woman who brags about how hot she is, who makes porn videos of herself, who is known for how much she can shop, and how little fabric she can pay loads of money for, the kind of cars she drives and the way she makes fun of 'common' folks is the one that gets the attention and is highlighted for all of those things.

  That being said, it is certainly no excuse, it is used to justify and give evidence of how corrupt our society is. Not that most of us have lives anything like that. And that kind of person will use anything to justify what they want. Reality is what we make of it, and they(fundamentalists) can slant the news just as good as anyone in the media can.

  I am not jealous of her, and could think of much better things to do with my life had I been given her opportunities-but I don't know know what happened from the time she was born with the silver spoon in her mouth until now that made her that way-cause not all well off people live like her. I could name you all kinds of things that are imperfect/less than ideal in my life, and I would rather have all of them being me than to live her life. I said earlier, I think she is very sad. But God loves her and she is young yet, and age can cure a lot of stupid. Or exacerbate it. It will be interesting to find out how she ends up. I can only wish her the best.

  Your freedom to kill someone and be punished for it afterward? Hell of a lot the freedom is going to do for the victim who is maimed or dead. Sorry, the system is too messed up altogether for me to wait for the drunks to get caught after they have killed folks. I'd rather they were stopped before they are going to jail for a lot more serious charges than DUI. And if you want to think I am in favor of some totalitarian state, I guess you can. Exactly WHAT kind of state allows anything with no restrictions unless you actually kill someone? And where is this place? Cause I don't want to be anywhere near it. Accidents happen, and stupid happens. In swimming pools, in life, in schools, in the home. We have enough dangers in the world without allowing people who are drunk to drive until they hit someone.

  On a Friday or Saturday night, the things that police do are breaking up the fights of drunks, arresting the badly driving drunks and scraping victims of drunks off the highway. I'd rather the roadblocks stopped the second so that they don't have to deal with the third. I like good cops, their jobs are tough enough without dealing with that.
