How uncomfortable are the chairs now? And what is the current scripture in the ugly gold letters on the wall.

What would you notice first if you went back to a Kingdom Hall?
by JH infirst thing i'd notice is how the old ones got so much older and how the kids became adults and are taller than me.. next thing i'd notice would be how long and dull the meetings are.. *yawn*.

Confucious-Good luck to you-I think being young and wanting a significant relationship is kind of hard. Makes you look at yourself and thats a good thing. Thinking about what you really value and want-thats part of it. I really wish I had looked into some of the things I mentioned in my previous post. I think that you are brave enough to come on here and go into it is kind of cool. Hopefully it will give you the chance to examine what you really want and value. When you are ready for a mate, you will make a good choice. Looks may come into it(attraction is the first seed in most relationships-nothing wrong with that), but there is more-and lots of beautiful people have a lot of wonderful things to offer(and accept)When you find the one that has it all for you, the balance of qualities may be different than you are imagining now, but then it will be right-the things that you really want for your family.

Wow. So what does this 21 year old have to offer besides good looks and virginity? Is she an interesting, fun, inquisitive, intelligent person with goals and dreams that are not all Borg centered? Can you imagine living with her and having kids (and raising them) with her? Could you be honest about your ambivalence (or whatever your feelings are) for the organization? Would you think that was important? She is a JW, but she is young, vulnerable and deserves a true relationship as much as anyone (and as much as a JW can have). Think hard cause you both deserve the whole package, not just the pretty wedding pictures (BTW, cousin recently got married-she is gorgeous and the pics were nasty-so you have NO guarantees, even if you only are going for the looks)

My Mini Van was stolen last night!! (long)
by ButtLight inmy son takes my van to school everyday.
so yesterday, after school, he decides to leave the van there, ride with his buddy to work, and pick it up later!
he comes home about 8:00 pm wild!

You have two issues. School was in the wrong for moving it-pursue that. Son has shown he is too irresponsible to drive your vehicle. Pursue that. That it wasn't stolen was lucky. That he had this easy of a lesson is lucky for him(and you) but he did not show the school rules respect and he did not show YOU respect for your property.

Cover Letter and Letter of Disassociation.
by AK - Jeff ini am forced to either accept df'ing without any defense [i clearly have none against charges of apostasy], or to at least 'speak my mind' one last time as i exit, with a hope of perhaps helping others to 'wake up'.. to that end - i have elected to send a letter of da to the elders - but more importantly - a copy of it, with a cover letter, to several families in the congregation.
most of these things never have a positive result, i know.
but at least i have attempted in this way to give a little defense for my position.

Good job, Jeff. It was very balanced and intelligent. I appreciated your Catholic dissident quote-perfect.

Why do they have to do that with every "god bless", " happy birthday", "good luck", "merry Christmas"? Can't they just show their love without judging every word like that? DUH, of course not. They have to pour on the uglies and spoil everything with negativity. Glad someone had the presence of mind to mention that it is 'idiotic'.

column in St Louis paper by former witness
by limbogirl inreading this made my stomach hurt...especially when the elder reminds the kids that the wedding is a "theocratic" event and restraint should be shown when doing the electric slide.
ugh.

I think he made some effective points on some of the ridiculous aspects of this wedding. The electric slide=theocratic event? Old friend wondering if it was ok to shake his hand? Family telling him not to write about JWs? Yeah, it was all good, except for the sour stuff. I think it is good for him that he doesn't care.

Let's just get something straight about 1975.
by WTFBBQPWNT innobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.
in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?
there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

Dismembered, I think we went to the same hall. I had nightmares until my mid 30's. I think at that time I finally 'healed' from my early JW experiences. I have other things I am still t/o'd about, but the fear is gone. I will NEVER do that to my kids. I would NEVER allow them to be exposed to that intensive torment-and it was just from the WT/elders/cong/Borg. The wicked earthly gov't never gave me nightmares, Babylon the great never did. Neither ever persecuted me. Heck, I've never even been arrested! I have been 'pulled over' by the elders, interrogated by them and condemned by them. Who needs armageddon?

Jerry Falwell Quote from new JW Tract
by moomanchu infalwell's comment came on "cnn late edition with wolf blitzer" in a debate with baptist minister jesse jackson, who called the iraq war "a misadventure" that isolated the united states politically and cost the country lives, money and "our character.
falwell, pastor of thomas road baptist church in lynchnurg, va., responded: "i'd rather be killing them over there than fighting them over here, jesse.
"let's stop the killing and choose peace," jackson responded.

I'm glad Gushee had the presence of mind to correct Falwell. What an idiot. We don't need terrorist Imams in the US, we have Falwell. My God, I am glad the man has lost all credibility among most Christians.

When the excuse article in '80 or so came out about 1975, an elder who had been an elder during 1975 told us of how he took advantage of HIS absolute certainty of the WT teachings regarding 1975. He had a few sketchy business deals going down that he seemed somewhat abashed about. He totally acknowledged that the WT teachings led him and others to an abosolute conviction of 1975 being the end.
Not to mention, I was there. I was constantly told of what kinds of persecution to expect. I was constantly shown those pictures of what happened to those who were not 'in the truth'. I know my mom even now admits that she was expecting it-between the articles, the sunday talks and the conventions. . .Sunday talks used to be big 'clue finding' sessions, hoping that something would be 'revealed'.
I think the fireman analogy of the first page on this thread is absolutely on target. Yelling that you see flames and smell smoke and then saying "but I never said FIRE" is just dishonest.
