Has any Jw EVER BEEN 'persecuted' on account of the name of Jesus? I think not. I think that they are disliked because of a lot of things, but it isn't about Jesus OR Jehovah. Hell, many people don't even know that they make any kind of claim to be believers of Christianity in any case.

Why are Jehovahs Witnesses persecuted and spoken against?
by mankkeli inthis is taken from the reasoning book, page 201. .
jesus said: if the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you.
if you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own.

I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine and don't want to imagine what you are feeling now. I'm sad for you as I think of my beloved sister.

told my parents to never ever tell me they love me again....
by oompa in...i told them in a very serious sitdown in their living room....said..."because if you cant show it then it does not count...that is not real love no matter who tells you it is....because it is how it makes me feel that determines if it is love....not if you just say it...and me and my sons do not feel that love at all now"....and i stayed calm and talked slowly and barely shed a tear as i held them back...and i had asked them to not say a word but just listen...dad said they would as long as it was not about religion as i knew he would.
this was two of the worst days of my life in a row..i told them the pain me and my boys feel from their shunning is worse than if they had died...that then i could grieve naturally and move on because that is normal....grief helps you cope...my grief is different because they choose to act like i am dead and normal grief does not seem to work on that.
i shared an epiphany with them i had about mens rules vs gods great idea of dna (but no i am not sure about a god anymore)it went kinda like this:.

Oompa, I know that this was probably physically and emotionally as tough as giving birth. You are going to be sore for awhile, but this will be worth it in the end for your peace of mind, for your sons, for your marriage. Blessings to you.

I'm only up to page 12 on this thread and as I have a good imagination and some sense of history, here are my current speculations that likely have no basis in fact, but would make for a good soap opera. The parents of Bonnie and Joseph are indeed the President and Bonnie Boyd(let's say). Their reputed parents were married at a time when both parents would be quite fertile and yet their children were not 'born' until 9 years into their marriage, when the reputed mom was 25, after having been married since the age of 16 to a much older man who is not evidenced to have other living children. The judge and HIS Bonnie did not need to hide a pregnancy for 9 months-they spent much of the year in San Diego and abroad. It would be easy to keep her out of sight in any case for a few months. As to the names, that is a little bit of ego, perhaps, but Bonnie was not a wildly popular name for a baby girl in 1930-#66 on the list I found. So, after 9 years of marriage and relative obscurity in a small texas town, this fine upstanding young couple is given the privilege of running Beth Sarim. Hmmm. The daughter and son are both made public, the daughter is called a princess. These are the children of the servants of Beth Sarim. I have never heard of Rutherford being nice to small children and puppies, has anyone here done so? A kind word? PULEEEZE. I imagine him flicking children away from him like so much lint on his suit, but I have a rather negative impression of Rutherford taken over the last 35 years of reading his words, and reading things written about him.
The one thing no one has really mentioned was the Pappy thing in this context-for all the fuss and furor of the evils of the Roman Catholic Church, and actual lessons that I remember about not calling any one "father", the word pope is actually a derivative of Papa, or father, literally a child's word for daddy. The ancient way to say, perhaps, Pappy. I think Rutherford had his own megalomaniac inclinations and i DON'T think he was subtle about them.
To be fair, all this (save the pappy bit) is purely speculative and perhaps unkind to the real Bonnie and Joseph who probably, if they had any sense, left the org. the first chance they could.

Farkel, I am looking at stuff from 7 years ago and there was some speculation about Bonnie's marriage to Heath and the 'paternal' relationship she had with JFR. I was thinking of all the history I read (Love history!) and how frequently kings would marry off mistresses who were no longer needed/wanted/desired to some eminently respectable match-usually rich, titled, etc. That might well be the reasoning JFR had for setting Bonnie up with Heath, particularly if he was a JW who had a non-believing wife. This is one way of taking care of tying up the money of Coca Cola and taking care of the young girl(maybe lover) that had been a loved person in his life for a decade or so. Scummy? Perhaps, but for a kinglike ego, to manipulate such a thing would not be something he would be ashamed of, but rather, he probably buffed his nails against his $$suit lapels and said "what a good boy am I".
Just my own speculation, for what it is worth. WOW what an old thread and oH so speculative and gossipy. :)

I found this all interesting as I livein one of those 'sexually repressive' middle east countries. Women here are marrying later than before and are better educated. The birth rate IS falling. The male/female thing that was mentioned before-women as breeders, men as fighters, is nothing short of ridiculous, however. Whatever you all think culturally of how things operate here in practical ways, women are revered in Islamic society IMO. Not always does this reflect as it SHOULD, however, but that is based on backwards culture (think America, 1955). The mother is the most respected person on EARTH, after God. And as to sexual repression etc-well, virgins are a nice idea, but men in this country, which is about 5 men to ever woman, are happy to just have a WIFE-and yes, women hold out here. And they are given a gift at marriage-this does not depend on their virginity, btw, it depends on the man's ability and finances (Muhammed(pbuh) was said to have paid the same mahr for all of his wives and many of them were widowed/divorced, so go figure).
I will say that sex is NOT treated as a 'contact sport' here. Men and women in Islam generally do not even so much as touch hands before they are married. I will also say that this does not make for a bad marital relationship (ok, personal note there). Most so called Islamic countries do not hold that tight to the teachings, so I don't know how that translates elsewhere-the Muslim nations in the former USSR are basically only Muslim in name only. When people from thosecountries come here, they basically need to learn how to even pray, reading the Quran is not something they ever have done. They are as Muslim as many nominal Christians are Christian. Which is to say, they have a word to check off when their religion is asked. They might know when Ramadan is (probably not).
Girl babies are valued as much as boy babies. I have not seen anyone regret their girl, and there is a specific rule in the Quran that speaks about not killing girl babies, as the culture of Arabia (and still in many places) held that girls were without value. Totally against the teachings of Islam to do so-selectively breeding for boys is not something that could be done here as it is in the India or China(not sure if China allows that anymore-they have a girl shortage).
Anyway, there is still cultural issues here that I take great issue with, but I do not think that sexual repression (as to breeding practices) is something that hurts these women-and their children. Folks, ultimately, the sexual practices that encourage 'promiscuity' do hurt the next generations in ways that are innumerable and documented.

It's official, the internet IS the Watchtower's nemesis!
by cedars ini have been inspired recently by some of the comments on this forum regarding the society having reached a "tipping point".
it's been observed that, despite the overwhelming weight of evidence that the society is nothing more than a damaging cult, the number of witnesses continues to increase, albeit gradually.
the latest figures i have available are those in the 2011 yearbook, showing a global 2.5% increase between 2009 and 2010.. as we all know, the internet is steadily rising in accessibility (or "penetration") around the world, and it provides a wonderful resource for those who are curious about joining the faith, helping such ones to quickly identify precisely how warped the teachings of the watch tower society really are.

That is interesting, thank you.
I live in a country where internet penetration is probably near 100%, however, evangelization is illegal, so we are not listed. There ARE a LOT of Christians here, however, I've yet to meet any JWs. We have an enormous Filipino population, as well as a lot of non Muslim Indians. It is a very small country with a light population and in all honesty, I know a LOT of people here-both Muslim and non-Muslim. I know most of the female, western population. There are a couple of wacky denoms, but they are smart enough not to be obnoxious about it or they'd be outa here. I don't see the WT even sending in any undercover operatives any time soon-the Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican and Lutherans would probably run them out on a rail-long before the Muslims got a whiff. The rule about evangelization is absolutely respected by all from what I have observed. No one even wants to be associated with that kind of mess (and it would become a huge mess for everyone involved, from our lovely Ambassador, embassy staff and employers to our maids (NOT that I have a maid now) and co-workers. Ewww.

At first it looks like the WT/JWs, then you notice that the women don't have to wear dresses and the men don't have to wear suits.
