I know that there are quaified brothers to help those in need-so they should give immediate (financial, food, clothing, shelter) assistance to any JW who needs it,but repairs only to those who have no insurace or way to pay for it. Why would anyone with insurance want a bunch of dodgy construction guys doing their repairs? I knew that while many brothers would eagerly help, that many were ridiculously unskilled. My dad helped at a few quick builds and often around different halls (he was not a JW, but he was part of the community via my mom and called upon regularly). He commented on the "yahoos" (direct quote) that worked along side him at times. He had the same comments about a lot of the Habitat for Humanity volunteers that had much better intentions than they had know how or ability. My dad was a "do it" kind of guy, not a guy that showed folks how to do it. He had no patience for incompetents or training, unfortunately. Anyway, I would rather hire a known professional construction crew to repair my home. Just sayin'. My dad could only do so much. . . and turned down paid positions with H4H because of it. Dealing as a contractor for years he knew too much about OSHA and dealing with homeowners, subs and everyone else. :) He would rather build a house alone than with folks who needed constant direction. (He appreciated kind intentions, he just didn't have a personality to be patient with training situations)

Watchtower made money off Hurricane Katrina?
by Coded Logic inso i just heard from someone who was on the rbc that when they were working on homes after the hurricane before they could start work on a brother or sisters house the brother or sister had to first sign a form that the wtbts could collect all their insurance money.
and that since all the labor was free (and many of the brothers on the rbc provided construction materials our of their own pockets) that the wtbts actually made money off of the disaster.. has anyone seen or heard this before and is there anyway to confirm it?
it really sounds like something the wtbts would do.

Forcing child to watch JW.org kid's videos?
by Darth Fader The Sequel inwe recently were visiting lifelong friends of ours in another state.
these people are uber-devoted jw's.
i mean they are prototypical "witness zombies" who do exactly what the gb tell them to without fail and always with a smile on their face.

I don't know--- I used to hate broccoli and now I love it. Same for a few other things. Cooked a little differently than my mom did (boilling veg todeath ando overcooking steak), I love things I loathed as a child.
So, while its good that she isn't eagerly going for the caleb crapola, YET, that is what brainwashing is for, right? So that she WILL go to it all eagerly ad think it is as wonderful as her foster gramma.

Will the kingdom hall of jehovahs witnesses signs eventually come down?
by hoser init is clear that the leaders of the jehovahs witness religion are rebranding.
so as a strategy they could have both the jw.org signs and kingdom hall signs running at the same time and then in a few years instruct congregations to remove the kingdom hall signs.
this happens all the time with commercial products when there are mergers and company takeovers.. .

For many years the ostensible reason for meeting at homes for the book study was for building closer relationships(we knew our JW neighbors in the hood) and of course, so that we can more easily stay in communication during the 'great tribulation".
I think they are going to invent a great tribulation to have a good reason to rid themselves of the expense of the KH's while getting the assets. I fully expect that this will happen in the next few years. Not because I am psychic, but because I am paying attention and have been doing so for over 40 years. They are and have been playing with the minds and building up the paranoia in JWs across the board for decades. Here is the thing-even the LEAST faithful in attendance that have been indoctrinated with this stuff will likely fall into the JW way of life again if they get them falling for it again by appealing to that built in paranoia about the world. Like the Manchurian candidate-they just need to use a code word or a situation (even invented by them) to get lax Jws activated. There are plenty who believe the crap, they just aren't willing tolive it or go along with it or don't care to bother their pretty little heads with the details. Most people are not that intellectually curious. But, push the right buttons and you get things like extremists, birthers, preppers, tea parties and those border activists of various sorts.
the WTBTS has been pushing buttons for years, seeing what works or not with various crowds. People aren't that complicated. And the WT is a master of manipulation.

I totally see them getting rid of KHs. Remember the video with folks meeting in a basement? They are getting their folks excited for all the coming persecution. I am pretty certain that they will create some for themselves in some sort of way.

I received my invite to the convention today.
by smiddy ina lone guy casually dressed with no tie knocked on the door and my son took him for a salesman , didnt answer the door and he soon left , he also noticed he put something in our letterbox as he left.. checking it out it was a flyer for the jehovahs witness convention which is a good 4-4 and a half hour drive from here where i live.. do they honestly think a householder who lives close to 4-5 hours away is going to go to a religous convention , when they have continously rejected the message in their own home town ?.
ok , so they are thinking , its advertising the convention to a far wider community in the state..... excuse me ?.
this particular convention is being held at etihad stadium in melbourne in oct.what has happened in previous conventions around australia , newspapers print special edditions to assemblys covering such conventions , however the rest of the state gets zero exposure to the assembly.. however the gullible rank and file think what a grand witness has been given with all this publicity .

Well, it is AUSTRALIA, right? Other countries allow for some variation in approved JW dress according to local standards. Isn't Australia all about beer and surfing and swimsuits and stuff? Do they SELL ties in Australia?

BORG running low on $$$??
by fader77 indear brothers:.
re: personal literature supply.
reducing existing stock at the branch office before the revisions are released.
-
JWdaughter
I can't believe that they even have the nerve to say that even though we have changed our doctrine and are revising this literature, we still want you to distirbute it until we provide you with the updated (crap) literature.
On two levels this bugs me. First of all, they are teaching what they NOW believe to be falsehoods to folks, SECOND, is this not the religion that brags that while they make adjustments to their understanding, that no critical teachings have changed? Have they just defined critical as those things that they have NOT yet changed? Cause I personally think that changing the definiton of the FDS is kind of critical. Just saying.

More WTS cash-grabbing: "Funds on Deposit" program for Circuits
by sir82 inat a recent circuit assembly "business meeting" for elders, a new program was announced: "funds on deposit".. here's how it works:.
each circuit determines a "floor" and a "ceiling" for an amount to hold in their circuit checking account.
when the "ceiling" amount is exceeded, the amount above the threshold is wired to the wts and held by them.. if the circuit checking account drops below the "floor" amount, the circuit can send a request to the wts to request that some of their "funds on deposit" be returned to them so that their checking account resumes a "safe" level.. as explained by the elder explaining the program,, "in other words, the branch is acting exactly like a bank - the circuit will make deposits and withdrawals as needed.

Hmmmm. So, they are pulling back all the moral leadership by turning everything to the circuit/districts/congregation so far as leadership, but so far as MONEY, they all need everyone to pull together and put it all into one (their) pot.
Isn't the money trail as much a liability to them as the people trail is?

Spanking VS. Reasoning
by SpeedRacer ini am having a discussion at work with the jw's.
should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.
they both agree with spanking.
-
JWdaughter
I had a couple of "You are getting spanked because I REALLY NEED YOU TO PAY ATTENTION" episodes. You know, where their disobedience puts them in real physical danger. I never beat them, but I personally did not think that the two year old could be reasoned with about why I didn't want her in the street. Run into the street and you get spanked is a lot more of a "reason" than any conversation I have ever had with a two year old.
Generally, I agree with the reasoning tactic. With few and rare exceptions where the reason is applied a few times briskly to the posterior.

My Wife Now Questions God
by Jon Preston inwell my wife and i have been through a roller coaster of life since i convinced her the dibs werent the truth.
the hardest tests have been lived but we are closer than ever now.
now recently shes read "the shack" nd watched some movies about god and just cant seem to inderstand why god would allow all of this suffering just to prove to satan that hes "the man" (or woman).

Even the bible addresses those who don't "know God" but who have a sense of what is right and wrong. See Romans 2. Not sure how or if this is anything applicable to your conversations with wife. I will offer my input. I think a lot of us get a little ambivalent about God at some point in our life journey. There is often an outside event or crisis or wonder that pulls us back in. I had one. My husband did, too. The point is, growing pains sometimes make us uncomfortable (or those around us-think adolescents).
