NY44M, I see what you are saying. . . but I am not at all certain that the GB are actually in charge of anything-including being "Guardians of Doctrine". I think they are innocuous, mostly inoffensive puppets. That being said, I don't know what to think about what is going on. It seems almost TOO stupid if it is not a manipulation. OTOH, if the GB are running it, clearly it is just what some would call a "cluster. . . "We shall see!!! -

Why don't you do anything?
by WireRider ini'm not jw, so i see this all standing up and very clear from an outsider perspective (i am still seeking my path).
i joined the blog a few weeks ago.
i dated a divorced jw (jw from birth) for a couple of years recently.

Sidewinder, welcome. Your post answered your question. For most, they have heart connections that depend on playing the game and they can only really be free when anonymous. I like the mass DA letter, too. You saw with your girlfriend what JWs are up against. Coming together would be great but some really value their JWs relations and can't risk them. Your girlfriend could have you and lose everyone else. The price is high. Freedom isn't free and all that jazz.
The other issue is that instead of fighting the common foe, the wtbts, ex JWs attack each other for current belief or non belief. It distracts from building something to fight the enemy. The arrogance of being "right". The wtbts is screwed up in so many ways corporately and administratively and fiscally that the actual present theology is immaterial. The leadership is poisonous, nothing right can come from it. The trinity, evolution and Christmas are the least of the issues.

In view of the dire straits of the JW org, what now?
by Half banana into use a metaphor; any tower built on insufficient foundations will sooner or later fall..
the origin of the watchtower organisation was in the announcement of ct russells pet theory, formed from adventism that christ had arrived in the heavens in 1874. within a biblical forty years i.e.1914, gods enemies he said, would be destroyed and peace would pervade the earth.
he was completely wrong.. the watchtower magazine however by this time had a large readership and trundled on after it was commandeered by rutherford who nourished its doomsday scam.

welcome, embarassed.
You clearly still have your integrity. You are also clearly in a toxic relationship. You can't blame him for your actions, but if nothing else, he is a bad influence on you (remember bad associations spoil useful habits!)
Being embarrassed for being dishonest and correcting it is an honest thing to do. Its a choice and you made it. No one is perfect, but you aren't wallowing in evildoing!
I'd rethink the boyfriend and think about the kind of person you want to be-you hang out with those who you can respect and admire. Honest people don't live in any particular church-and we know there is dishonesty everywhere. Id suggest finding people who make you grow better. All good things to you!!

I kind of like the idea of keeping it simple. "this is to declare that I, jwdaughter, am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses. "
They know "why" people leave. They won't read "why". Its the number of names, not the number of pages, that will make the impact. If you need to get it off your chest, YOUR WHY, I'd make it separate from the 'declaration". Thats just my editorial/writing consultant take on the idea.
To every GB member, the service desk, every elder you know, any JW you care to tell, but I love the idea of a simple one page letter X1000's to each and every GB and the service desk.

Hedging on the "jehovah's will" issue leaves them open to be able to sell it whenever and just say -hey, we did what we thought was best at the time, clearly we were wrong so now we are selling and know that we were supposed to put our HQ in some warm, tax haven that doesn't extradite. (Ok that is just me, being snarky). But getting rid of it and sending the profits(?) elsewhere. . . why not? They left a barn door open to do that with it. -

S*** JW Parents Say
by Dissonant15 inmy mom especially had some go-to phrases that to this day echo in my head and piss me off.
things like, .
"don't get mad at me for enforcing the rules, because jehovah made them, so if you don't like it, you're disrespecting him.

"These kids with their "hooking up". This wicked old world. . . they didn't do that when I was young"
Uh, mom, remember you telling me about the key parties you were invited to-and how aunt S cheated with uncle L and tried to seduce dad when he was drunk. . .(she was a JW, btw). Remember your cousin B killed her cheating ex husband and his girlfriend in her bed (all JWs). Remember how her son killed his brother in the hunting accident? Remember how aunt D was DFd 4 times (at least) and how you shunned her (for her smoking, divorce, drug use, general oddness). Just because she is a JW(pioneer with a cart and everything!) now only would seem to say that this world ISN'T as wicked. None of your kids cheated with our in laws! None of your kids smoke or get drunk or use drugs. We didn't abuse our kids or molest them. Your generation did. . . how is our generation worse?

Money, Money, Money...and Money, Money, Money
by The Rebel ini made a post of this, but feel it warrants a thread.
in central london ( paddington) the " property management company" we refer to as jehovers witnesses, bought a church building, which is now a kingdom hall, but with the outside appearance of a church.. i got an explanation from bethel " it's just a building".
well let's give the organisation credit for its business sence.

This does beg a question-who does get halls? We hear of africans swimming across snake infested rivers to get to meetings, we hear of people in small towns having their halls closed and sent to bigger towns, driving many miles to get to a hall afterwards, we hear of multimillion dollar properties with 5 congregations in the middle of the most expensive neighborhood in London . . . halls can vary in price from maybe $50K in some small towns in the US to millions in a large urban area. A grass hut in Africa or small towns in Asia. Nice, very simple halls in more populated 3rd world countries. Total dives in the South Bronx (I have seen a couple many years ago and they were scary) Which JWs should get the multimillion dollar places of worship? Since the WT has taken over EVERYTHING, it actually seems very unegalitarian that anyone is crossing a river or a road that another does not have to. In this way, I can see the WTjustifiying going back to home meetings exclusively after they do (and they WILL) sell off most of the property. They can't allow a struggling small town congregation in the US to stay "alive" because it isn't self supporting. . . well-lets be fair! Mark my words(at least in pencil), there will soon be teachings about "home churches" or some such thing. -

If your Bethelite Brother Doesn't Know About It, It Musn't Be True
by HomebytheSea ina few weeks ago my deeply indoctrinated father who is a long time elder was wondering why we hadn't been attending meetings, and why my 8 yr old son wasn't on the theocratic school ( sounds like i almost off the hook with that one...lol).
we live in a different state, but i came to find out that one of the elders in our hall called my father, who he never met, to see why our meeting attendance had been so sporadic (i am in my mid-40's, so that knowledge made my blood boil, to put it mildly!
i tried not to answer, but he kept pressuring me, so i brought up the arc and child abuse cases i had heard of in our area.
