Back in the olden days-early 1980s, when I left, there were a lot of ex JW groups. Yahoo meets had nothing on yellow pages, little nickel want ads and newspaper blurbs about JWs. I'm not surprised that a more mature generation has recognized and joined together. I would suggest that there might well be a little more dissent than acknowledged, but these folks are meeting with carefully gathered, like-minded friends. They don't want to undermine their whole life, but they can't buy into all the nonsense. Good for them. I'm almost 50. In 10 years, I hope I see a very different org. Those 80 year olds have to see whatsoever is going on now, knowing they will not see a significant downfall of corrupt leadership. :(

Executed Jehovah's Witness under Hitler were more Christian than Jdubs
by suavojr inhas anyone noticed how the phraseology of this letter is so far away from todays jw theology and idioms used?
do you notice what word is missing?
how would any of us be viewed in the congregations if we were to speak or write this way?

It's not a legally binding contract to anyone but the Borg. Just say no, he is immature and not prepared for the implications. You are the dad and it's your decision. -

Headline: "Islamic Invasion: Europe now scrambles for guns." How true is this?
by cappytan ina year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.
world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.
so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

Syrians and Lebanese people are basically the same people. The culture is very similar. Most are pretty secular and the religious are mostly not radicals. Qatar, Saudi and other countries are NOT "just the same" as Syria. They don't speak the same dialect and have an entirely different culture. Most in Syria OR Lebanon would be more comfortable in Europe than Arabia. Most would not really want to go further into the areas that are besieged by ISIS. I wouldn't! We keep hearing about them making insurgencies to Egypt, Arabia etc. Little tiny Bahrain and Qatar are NOT equipped for that kind of influx infrastructurally. The climate rather precludes just sticking them all in tent cities in the desert. They aren't Bedu, and the desert is not mildly desert-like. It is serious. Qatar has the money, but struggles to provide, even with all the money, water and sewage services to the current population. They are growing and trying to make more infrastructure, but they are likely overcome by the immigrant workers already there right now building the new infrastructure.
I wouldn't stop in Lebanon, I'd keep heading west. Not because I am greedy or a bad guy. Because ISIS has already rooted them from hearth and home. They want to feel safe again. They want their children to get an education. Look what happened to Palestinians. They want away from all the crazy political crap and I don't blame them.

I think judiciously rearranging branches and territories has masked some of their churn and where the biggest decreases are. -

Did Ray Franz manage to live out a comfortable retirement from the proceeds of his books.
by joe134cd ini'm just curious if anybody knows.
firstly i don't take issue with the man making money from his books and if he was able to live comfortably from it then i say power to him.
but what i'm wanting to know was just how successful was it and did it allow him to live out the remainder of his years in comfort e.g buy a house, eat good food etc.

I don't see any way that he could have made much, if anything.
They were always hard to come by, reasonably priced and huge. It was a pricy book to print and ship because of size/ weight.
Not a big market and not interesting to those without a dog in the fight.

Thinking about converting to Judaism after I leave the JW cult. Any Jews here?
by tragical injust a question, any savvy jewish lawyer shark types here who would like to go after the throat of this jw cult and send them to hell?
maybe take them to court over any number of topics and expose them for the evil cult they are?
pick your choice of child abuse, personal slander, mental cruelty and torture, and thousand of other topics.

Judaism and religion in general can be fascinating. I suggest that you take a more anthropological look at religion n general and since you are currently interested in Judaism, study it more intensely. It will give you a different perspective. I am still a believer in God, but specific, detailed ritual is not the way I approach the creator. -

I remember when I first starting learning about the bible in context. Very different document than I read as a JW. Even the latitudes had been reduced to a "proof text". It's disrespectful to treat anyone's holy book with so much disdain for its message. Even on an academic level they miss it. I'm not a Christian and I see that. -

You can only sell off assets to cover operational costs so long before there is not anything left to operate.
