Pledge for Global Assistance Arrangement - $15 per publisher!
by nmthinker inlast night our congregation read a letter for the global assistance arrangement combined with the traveling overseer assistance arrangement.
the "recommended" amount was $15 per publisher, which was well over $1000 for our hall.. it seemed steep.
our congregation does not have this type of money.

Caleb and Sofia used to brainwash children
by shattered_origins inokay, i need to vent.
as a newly awoken individual, i have yet to "come out" to my hard core jdub parents.
my plan was to lay low and use my unbelieving husband and baby as an excuse for my "inactivity", it has worked for the last few months.

I had to put my foot down with my mom regarding issue with my kids-not all were JW, related-I had to fight for her to use the stupid car seat! There is nothing wrong with her just having supervised visitation if she defies you on this.
I would not let the shows go past one year of age. Kids start getting attached to (stupid) shows. They have no discretion, or Barney would not exist. Just a friendly warning.

"Kingdom Halls will continue to be built or renovated in proportion to whatever the brothers are able to contribute for this purpose."
I think this is an intentionally vague phrase. It can be assumed by a loyalist that the plan remains the same. Others would ask what happened to all the money in the money grab? Does that figure into the peoportion referenced? The cynic wonders if congregations will now be awarded new hall's if they are very generous(you know how some hopeful idiots keep buying more magazine's thinking they will be more likely to win publishers clearinghouse sweepstakes?)
Any fading elders want to call for clarification?

Suicide or Real Freedom? - My Story As One Of Jehovah's Witnesses
by dubstepped in"sometimes i think the only thing i could do that wouldn't upset someone would be to kill myself.".
those were the frustrated words of my friend as we stood out in his large yard in the country, just about to enjoy a nice bonfire on a beautiful night.
what was it that could have been a lesser evil than killing himself?

I mentioned to my mom that my 2 year old grandchild had a bad night last night. She has only just started sleeping through the night well about 70% of the time. So, mom blamed Halloween. Where the church allowed animal and bible character! Not anything scary. First thing she jumps on is Halloween though she e knows sleep is a work in progress for her.
My sis had same problem and never went trick or treating g, even at a churchy, indoor event. I blame Armageddon talks!

If she fades away, her exhusband remarries and you don't get caught as to any aspect of your relationship, then quietly marry, she will be considered weak, not necessarily wicked.
Fading is her best option until then as well as a civil marriage with no family involvement in your relationship until after the marriage.
Good luck and don't get sucked into the Borg, friend.
Welcome to the site.

Headline: "Islamic Invasion: Europe now scrambles for guns." How true is this?
by cappytan ina year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.
world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.
so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

Having a lot of family and friends in the medical profession, medical professionals are subjected to a lot of unspeakably yucky crap from patients and families.
I have been a patient subjected to things by other patients and once a medical professional that would and have made for interesting or gross party stories, but none made the news. Most doesn't unless it fulfills an agenda.
Years ago I worked in medical billing. Some get dangerously irate at getting bills for relatives that die in hospital. They don't make the news, just the gossip rounds at hospitals and billing centers.
Crises and overburdened systems add to normal drama. I don't envy the medical professionals or the scared and ill immigrants. What a nightmare.

WT Mtg "read scriptures" are only to be read by a 1 brother???
by Olivia Wilde inwe had co visit recently & it appears that the co told the elders of the congregation that the scriptures indicated on the wt to be "read" on the watchtower study are only to be read by 1 brother in the entire study.... the elder conducting the watchtower announced that at the wt mtg... i was like what???
only men?....
has anyone else had this occur in their congregation?

Yeah, they only read(past tense) the usually out of context scriptures if someone brought it forward in an answer. I wish they would skip the entire charade, but I'm not a factor in decision process. I love hearing that the congregations are defying the direction from bethel, though!!!Rebellion!!!! -

The Irony of JW's on Halloween
by Simon inisn't it ironic - the one day of the year you can pretty much guarantee that most people are not only home but anticipating people people calling at their door ... and jehovah's witnesses don't go out that day.. heck, if the householder isn't receptive they even have the get-out option of claiming it was a joke and they dressed up as jehovah's witnesses for halloween!
:d. of course we know the aim of the ministry for most is to avoid talking to people.
that's why they do it during the day midweek or on sat morning or sun afternoon when people are most likely out..

My JW self did not hate Halloween. Or feel ripped off. We always had a skate party and mom's gave treats. Most Sun nights we went skating, so not deprived of fun. I felt gypped about family dinners on thanksgiving and Christmas. My mom would make turkey later. We might go for dessert, but it was a denial of extended family time and I loved seeing everyone together. By dessert they start heading off on dates, movies or sleep. Not the same. Miss the lively time before meal. Before the dinner drugging effect.
