Sekulow has a very agenda based law practice. Until now, I thought he was rooted in an idealism and devotion to promote good values, which I now recognize to be a naive idea on my part. I haven't followed his work in years but even when I did, I thought he was operating from sincerity even if he was grssping constitutionally about various issues(even some I supported at the time). Then, as now, I recognize that my ideals and preferences might not be fitting in with the laws of land and/or constitutional principles, but I wonder if Sekulow cares about principles at all. He didn't seem very passionate about his new mission which I cannot blame him for however I no longer believe that he works for what he believes in because though DJT may be spouting some conservative platitudes he is clearly not a conservative figure to stand up for. He is not a principled political or business person. I believed that Sekulow was at least working on principle before. This affiliation with Trump is troubling to me. My conservative foundation is rocked a bit more for this.

Sometimes I am very puzzled ...!!!
by fulltimestudent inrecently the extremely smart (so he tells us) but comparatively inexperienced person, elected by the very smart people who live in the usa, to be their president, announced that he was limiting ties with qatar (a small arab state in the middle east) on the grounds that they were supporting terrorism.. and yet, the very next day, he authorises the sale of twelve billion us dollars worth of modern american fighters (f15s) to that small state, in which is located ... .
" ... the biggest us military base in the middle east, al udeid.
ten thousand american personnel are there, many of them prosecuting the air war against isis in syria and iraq.

Qatar doesn't benefit in any way by promoting terrorism. Tiny country, minimal military power except by proxy (us al-udeid) and greatly benefits from the peace found in that nation. I really don't get this. And my IQ tested just fine, thanks!

Who has ever succeeded in getting an elder fired ( demoted )?
by Chook init's nearly a job for life if you don't literally fu.. up..
-
JWdaughter
I didn't personally, but I believe I was present at his downfall and may have impacted the consequences.
That article in the very early 80s about 1975 was discussed at our sat. night youth WT study. The elder chaperoning was very forthright about his expectations and experience. I discussed it along with other concerns with the gal I studied with. The youth study was cancelled before 2 weeks passed. I was DA'd soon after and the nicest elder in the congregation stepped down and moved to another hall. They moved to the middle of nowhere. I don't know, but suspect that others discussed it also. All over the WT world. But in my little world he was part of the catalyst that got me out.

London fire..
by zeb ini bleed for the poor souls caught in that.
no sprinkler system in that domestic building..!.
tragically the govts various of london learned nothing during the world war..

whenever tragic news comes from a place far removed, I am no longer numbed by the distance or the idea that I don't know anyone-in the old days we would care, but it was really removed from our life, our experience and our relationships. The world is truly a smaller place as we have not only instant access to news, we have online friends, associates and business partners all over the country, continent and world. Families are more mobile. I've lived on 3 continents. I have family everywhere but Antarctica.
Without any travel or interner, the horrific nature of this tragedy touches all of us. The generosity of neighbors touches us and the greed and self serving interest of the owners and uselessness of govt at times enrages. It's bad enough when a landlords greed is inconvenient to tenants, but endangering them? unconsionable.
I hope this wakes up building inspectors and code enforcement worlwide. This is not something that should happen anywhere, much less in a city like London.

Witnesses Agree That Institutions That Donât Report Child Abuse Should Be Fined
by cha ching intoday my husband was on his way to meet a friend.
the purpose of the meeting was to discuss how to have a bill introduced into congress, which would require non-profit institutions to report child abuse to the authorities.
the penalty for not reporting would be a fine.. one of the motives behind this effort, is to raise awareness about child sex abuse.

Forget fines, revoke their charitable/non profit status.

Have You Ever Found Yourself Really Not Liking Someone Here?
by minimus ini've been on this board for years.
99% of the posters here i do not personally know.
a few, maybe not so much...lol..... do posters here get you upset to the point that you really don't like them?
-
JWdaughter
Yeah, I have had a negative view of some posters, but thanks to having a memory like a steel sieve, it's hard to hold a grudge. There is one poster that I do know as being hostile, but I chalk it up to cult damage and let it pass. I do however avoid that person's ugly face and try to approach in uncharged topics. I have enough drama, I don't need it here.

"We dont mourn the dead"
by HereIgo ini remember a brother making the above statement in regards to an elderly sister who had passed.
he stated we don't mourn or even visit grave sites because we have a hope that jah will resurrect the dead.
it seemed really creepy at the time, hell, even jesus wept when lazarus died.

This is interesting I find that I am still a little unemotional about death and that it was only the death of closer people to me that made me realize how I really didn't get it before and I still probably don't get it like a normal person and I really do a tribute that to being raised A J w. I used to consider myself pragmatic but now I think it's a little obnoxiously cold.

As an Ex JW now, how would you react if you met your Bible study conductor?
by EverApostate ini was a jw for 11 years , came to know ttatt and wrote my disassociation letter 5 years ago.
since then i had been an atheist and trying all i can to spread awareness for âstill inâ members.
my wife and mom are still jws and i do get along with them perfectly.

my last study conductor turned me into elders because my questions challenged her too much. I was 15. I'm not sure if she's still in or not. If a 15 year old with no internet scared her, she must be taking Zanex by now.
I'm metciful. I'd just say hell, how you figured out the truth about "the truth"

Why does this forum tolerate Cold steele and his mormonism beliefs ? Who`s next ?
by smiddy ini thought this forum was for people who were ex jw`s and pro jw`s and the like to debate ,discuss and reasonably talk about our differences ,and sometimes drift off into politics world events and whatever.. however over a period of time i have come across cold steel `s many posts which are nothing more than promoting his mormon religions point of view./beliefs what has that got to do with jehovahs witnesses and the concerns many have with the jw religion.?.
it seems to me he is using this forum to promote his religion and is getting away with it over a long period of time.. how long before other cult religions see this as a springboard for promoting their own religion such as .
sda`s ,christian scientists , christadelphians ,beroean bible students ,etc.etc.. where will it end if he is able to keep doing this ?.

Tolerate a Mormon? You mean a believer in something you don't believe in? This board is ostensibly open to all. It ostensibly allows for freedom of speech. Simon allows JWs, LDS, CAtholics and Baptists here. You can god bless or damn whatever you please and ignore whomever you choose. Happy birthday, merry christmas, happy Hanukkah. We have at least one resident Jew, too.
If you want to challenge ideas or beliefs go for it. If you wish to shut it down, you might as well go back to the Kingdom hall where character and intellect attacks on all "others " is allowed and in fact, encouraged and given regular training.
