Will a Divorced person become single and unbound in Paradise?
by AJan inmy dear brothers and sisters,.
hope you all are doing fine.
i have been having some questions in my mind for which i wasnt able to find a conclusive answer.

Dear Ajan,
According to Watchtower doctrine and the rules of the organization, she is permanently bound to her husband until one of them dies. Those that survived into the watchtower paradise would not have previous life obligations erased. Only the circumstances for a "scriptural divorce" approved by the elders, or death, would end the marriage vows either in the "present" system, or the "new world order".
I would be happy to provide biblical citations to support this watchtower doctrine, but since the JW organization is a man-made organization with its own set of man-made rules and regulations, this would be an impossibility.
Cheers!

The Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
by drew sagan inthe doctrine of 1914 states jesus was 'enthroned' at that time, stating that his power was limited up untill then (he only had been made king over the congregation).
two scriptures that contradict this belief are ephesians 1:20, and matthew 28:18. in the latter jesus states before he is resurrected that: .
all authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth" .

I think his resurrection had more to do with INHALATION !!! LOL

Agnostic or Atheist?
by done4good infor all of you non-religionists out there: do you consider yourself an agnostic or atheist, and why?
it seems many ex-jws that "loose the faith" have a tendency to go straight for atheism.
i myself, would consider myself more of an agnostic, as i believe we have no real way of knowing if there is a god one way or the other, and it tends to seem just as extreme to me, to insist that there is not one.

Without consciousness "real" knowledge would be impossible.
Poppers, non-sentient animals, including dogs, cats, rats, all insects, etc etc acquire and use "real" knowledge about their environments every single second of their existence. Knowledge about locations, associative memories, food seeking, avoiding danger, this is ALL real knowledge and no less significant, from a biological perspective, as any other form of knowledge. In the same vein, non-human animals display "knowingness" simply by using memory circuits within their brains, in the exact same neuroanatomical locations as humans.
There is nothing "mystical" or "mysterious" about human consciousness with the exception that we are perhaps more aware of our mortality then other non-sentient animals (however even this could be debated). The point is, we are simply the sum collection of neurochemical transactions distributed across our brains. We can apply human creativity to come up with all sorts of romantic notions about the "knowingness" of human consciousness, etc etc. But in the end, the physiological effects of a general anaesthetic on "human consciousness" or the consciousness of a rat, are ultimately identical: cortical shutdown, and a corresponding loss of consciousness, awareness, knowingness, etc. We are ALL just complicated machines.

Will You React With Prejudice?
by Jamaican JW inwill you react with prejudice when faced with "absolute truth?
sometimes, an irrefutable "truth" can be spoken.
and yet, this statement or fact of "truth" can be glossed over or dismissed or not recognized by the community at large, because of preconceived ideas taught us and engrained in us, from our previous upbringing or training.

Active JW Apologists: Did you take the OATH at the Convention?
by kid-A ininquiring minds want to know: how did respond to oath # 7 which all jws were required to take at the latest dc?
"we will resist with all our strength the spirit of the world manifested in such things as materialism, unwholesome entertainment, overindulgence in food and alcoholic beverages, the plague of pornographic material and the curiosity or temptation that lures one into association with outsiders through internet chat rooms.
our resolve is to be no part of world as we carry on worship that is clean from the standpoint of our god.

However, I think it needs to be pointed out that no one was required to take an "oath". I was there.
Gander, when a resolution is publicly read out to a group of individuals with extremely specific demands upon behaviour and or thought processes, and these individuals are then required to state "YES" in a loud voice, they have, for all intents and purposes adopted an "oath", agreeing to conform to the regulations of the resolution. I have no idea where your DC was, but having myself attended such conventions for 26 years, I can assure you, if it was not presented as a public oath within your specific district, this is the exception, not the rule. FYI, the quote of the oath on post 1 is a verbatim transcript of the DC resolution. It has not been "overstated" or "bent" in any way shape or form. Watchtower absurdity rarely requires embellishment.

I seriously doubt that the WTS merely views these as minor or insignificant rhetorical exercises.
I completely agree Arthur. And moreso, the fact that these "resolutions" are adopted at large, District Conventions makes them even more serious to the R+F, as these
really represent exercises in mass conformity and "group think", representing the latest "concerns" of the GB about threats to membership. I cannot recall any previous
resolutions where such detailed and specific "commands" were spewed forth.

Are JWs Not Too Smart? Pros and Cons...
by Seeker4 inin alanf's thread on whether or not thirdson (or whoever!
) is a gb apologist, there are several posts discussing the intelligence of jws.
on that subject, this is what i observed from over 30 years as a jw:
-
kid-A
I can only comment on my congregation, but the vast majority were utterly dim-witted. There were 2-3 bright elders, one even had a degree, but the R+F were mostly
borderline literate, having read nothing beyond WTS propaganda their entire lives.
