any topic and it turns into a defd debate, im not complaining, i enjoy it, as long as its friendly banter !.
we need more active jws on this board.
Despite my problems with the WTS, there were always 'individual' witnesses that I liked and felt comfortable with.
Derrick is a cool dude because he has a sense of humour, is willing to debate, and at least will consider the things you are saying, even if he strongly disagrees.

If you inhabit more than just four dimensions then those other parts of YOU could be receiving stimulae which affects even the physical part of YOU without you necessarily being able to scientifically measure it (at this time) or physically sense it as an "external" event.
And how would this ever be demonstrable? Hypothetically, anything is a 'possbility', but at the moment, the available evidence we have is that we are biological, organic life forms. I think this is where our dialogue must inevitably break down, because I would ultimately require some demonstration of the aforementioned 'alternate dimensions' before I would entertain the above hypothesis. We can give somebody LSD and have them tell us that their mind has "travelled to another dimension" yet we know these experiences are due to dysregulated neuronal firing through glutamate signalling pathways in specific neural circuits.
If we have no way of testing these dimensional possibilities (regardless of whether this will or will not be a reality in the future), I see neither the utility of these hypotheses nor any practical applications based upon our current level of understanding of neurobiology and astrophysics. Having said that, it would be incredible if we COULD test and examine these questions, but I fear this will be several thousand years (and several billion dollars from NIH) into the future!!
people often react most defensively when challenged not on their firmly held beliefs but on beliefs they wish were true but suspect at some level to be false.... .

I think there is an important distinction, however between these two modes of belief.
As I have always stated, if I was given unequivocal evidence for the existence of a god, I would most certainly accept this fact at a logical level (regardless of how I felt about it at an emotional level). However, whenever I have debated with theists (and I cant speak for anybody on this board) they have flatly stated that no matter how much solid evidence was presented to them proving the non-existence of god, they would never accept this. In other words, my belief system is falsifiable and I have enough humility to accept that I may be mistaken. The theists I have discussed this with, simply reject a priori the possibility of their belief system being in error.

LT,
Alas, I would have to know the form that such a stimulus manifest itself in before I would be able to provide a satisfactory answer. What I am confident of is that any such stimulus would have to be transduced at the level of the neuron in order for my consciousness to be aware of it.
In any case, to test such a hypothesis would require an understanding of any hypothetical dimension beyond the 4 you mentioned.

LT,
I am not clear regarding the difference between 'transcending physical reality" versus "extending beyond it" ? How are these different?
ok, i've been watching the show "inked" on a&e and i think it's a really cool show about tattoo artists in las vegas.
and lately i've been thinking about getting a tattoo somewhere on my body, possiblely my lower back.
my sister has one there and i think it's really cool.
I like tattoos, and I have seen some really cool ones on my friends but what will always stop me is, I just cant imagine not eventually getting sick of it, whatever tattoo I chose. The removal surgery usually leaves a nasty scar. I'm just too indecisive!! LOL
