Thank Gawd we did it the first way, rural or city. If we hadn't have, the first person would have had no skin left on their knuckles since people were rarely at home. There was more than just one person needing to ditch place old mags and tracts at the not at homes!

When in FS...
by starfish422 inwhen you went out in service with a group, did you alternate whose call it was, with each house?
or did you have to keep knocking until you found someone at home, then move on to the next person in the group?.
we did it the former way; and thank goodness for rural territories!!

JW delivery man just here
by Mulan ini had to buy my parents a new refrigerator and dishwasher this week, and it was delivered a few minutes ago.
one of the delivery men noticed mom's daily text book, and asked her if she read it every day, to stay close to jehovah.
she immediately asked him "what congregation are you in?

Reminds me of an incident, years ago, when I was just beginning to study with the JW's. I worked at an office with another girl who cursed like a sailor and didn't care who heard her or what they thought of her. There was a delivery guy who came in a couple of times a week. I can't remember how I found out he was a JW but when I did, I was all excited about revealing to him that I was studying. I remember that he acknowledged he was indeed a witness but then acted completely unimpressed and disinterested that I was studying to be in his religion. He liked the potty mouth alot better and seemed to find her most entertaining! He was nice to me but never spoke a word of "encouragement" about our commonality which I thought, at the time, to be rather strange. I now understand what this bro was probably going through. Burned out and bored of it all with no desire to cultivate any *kingdom seeds* while out doing *normal* things.
I seriously doubt this brother hung in for long.

Did Most At The Kingdom Hall Ignore Or Talk To You
by minimus indid you find that you tended to find yourself alone, without many people to talk to, or were you generally able to chit-chat with the "friends" at the hall?
-
ChakkaConned
Sure, they talked to me, as long as I was the one that made the effort. They didn't go out of their way until I started missing alot of meetings. Then, I would have some great friend sistahs(not) show interest in me by moseying over after the meeting to try and find out what my problem was. As long as I was active, I was ignored. If they suspected that some high drama(worthy of elder attention and juicy gossip) might be going on in my life, they seemed to be suddenly interested and "friendly".
It was all pretty transparent.

Why So Many Magazines?
by JH inwhy does the watchtower have to print so many different magazines every two weeks?
the truth is out since over 2000 years, and the truth didn't change since the time of jesus.
so why does the watchtower have to give us the latest version of the truth every 2 weeks?

In this day and age, you'd think the JW's would get with the program and stop putting all that emphasis on those stupid mags(and all of their litterature for that matter). Why won't they buy some TV time and start preaching that way? They'd certainly reach more people that way, no? I never met a soul who really gave a damn about those magazines and considered them special in any way(except for dumb dubs). They should be ashamed and embarrased for hawking those magazines in modern times where media technology could really promote their cause. That is, assuming they truly care about peoples eternal lives
To the writing of many books, there is no end. Have you ever heard a scripture that applied so well??

who hated the memorial?
by Tyler_Durden inwas having a wee think to myself: this year is the first year in over a decade i won't be attending the jw memorial.
not that i'm too bothered, i remembered how much i hated it, how pointless, dull, & stupid i found it!!.
i could never understand the need for the great crowd to attend the annual meeting, it wasn't for us - & it certainly wasn't for our poor bible studies!

I didn't hate it. Afterall, this was THE one big legal "celebration" for JW's. I tried to make the best of it by taking my children out afterwards to a restaurant.
Last year's memorial was the last meeting I attended. I went to another congregation in another town and the people there were even snottier than at my old hall. They didn't know us or whether we were studies or what but they were unfriendly and completely oblivious to us. We couldn't find any seats and they didn't care. One brother looked up at me from his seat and told me to go ask an attendent to find us seats. Duh. Another fond memory I have of the memorial was when I brought a study to it and none of the sisters would greet or talk to her. You see, I wasn't so well thought of in my hall. I rarely went out in service and yet here I am bringing a study to the memorial when the pioneers, who were so much better than me, had none attending that year. My study wasn't worthy because of who was teaching her
I'm gonna miss the memorial this year but I won't "miss" it

Evil CO's wives

I don't remember any particularly evil CO's wives. I was never the super active dub so I tried to stay out of their way when they came to visit. I do remember how NO ONE wanted to sit by any of them during the meetings. The whole hall could be filled but the seats by them would remain empty until there were no other seats available. I ended up having to sit by them once....with an unstudied watchtower The pubs didn't clamor to work with them out in FS either. I do recall when one CO told the audience at the beginning of his visit....."and please don't feed me anything cooked in aluminum pots."
As for evil pioneer sister.......oh yea, had one of those. If Satan is real, I swear, he must have whispered in her ear exactly what to say to people at the right moment. She was an evil witch who absolutely hated pubs and never missed an opportunity to put down and critisize. She was so haughty, I was convinced that if the society had asked her to wear a purple robe with double fringe and a scripture containing case on her forehead to the meetings and FS, she would have felt perfectly happy and justified in doing so.
When I aux. pioneered one month, another regular pioneer told me if front of a bunch of sisters....."I used to waste time doing that". In other words, aux. pioneering was nothing, no big sacrifice. Needless to say, I never wasted my time again

Excellent and most enjoyable!
I loved "Danse McCabre" as a kid. There was a play every year at Halloween at school featuring this piece. It was deliciously....well, macabre All of the ghosts dancing around to that haunting music, we kids were mesmerized. So many moons ago but I seem to remember it as mostly a violin piece.
Anyway, would love to hear it again.
Thanks again for sharing!
