  Calling the cross pagan was another way Rutherford was able to further segregate his followers and make them believe that only they were worthy of salvation by God.

  YOU EVER FEEL SCARED IT IS THE TRUTH?

  just wondered as im prob about to give up so much, coz i dont think it is the truth but its come as such a shock!.

  my family believe it so much, my dad feels he can answer any question i have, and being brought up in it sometimes it scares me.

  For years I wondered if may it was maybe it wasn't. Then I started to research the history, then the doctrine, then other religions. I am 100% certain it is false, it is no different than many other high control ego tripping religions.
  
  In fact I would be prepared to take on the GB on doctrine now, as there are key points that are impossible for them to answer in a satisfactory manner. Your father only thinks he knows all the answers because a JW is trained with how to tackle an worldly person at the door. Most JWs have not encountered a person that has been trained with how to tackle a JW. There are many people on this board that could make any JW look a fool when it comes to doctrine.

  There is a paper by Richard Singelenberg’s (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands) "Child Custody Decisions and Jehovah’s Witness Parenthood" that looks at cases where the non witness won custody on the basis that being a JW was harmful to the mental health of the child.   Kingdom Hall Spankings

  most meetings i went to, children were brought to the washrooms in the back to be disciplined.

  often i could hear a child yell or cry due to the spanking given by the parent.

  people in the hall would have that look on their face meaning that it was alright to discipline a child by spanking him.

  In my hall when i was a kid i remember the Watchtower conductor getting off the platform and spanking his 7yo child in front of everyone, and then getting back on the stage and continuing the study.
  She ended up anorexic, go figure.

  losing jehovah was like losing a girlfriend that you loved.

  you barely had time to flinch when you found out that she had been sleeping with all your friends and stealing your records to pawn off.

  that you had just been another sucker on the vine.. when jehovah dumps you, you start looking at yourself longer and harder, and wondering what it was about him that you found in yourself, until all you see there in the reflection is just yourself, dancing with an imaginary hand and waistline.. when jehovah was gone, and the war was over, i realized that all the things that had made me "good", and "moral", and "hate what was bad", didn't mean anything to me anymore.

  I used to think being gay was like being a JW, both belong to small communities that go through persecution for what they stand for. Now I see it the other way around, as you mentioned. Many JWs are trapped within a community by fear of being themselves.

  Just found out my JW little sister is inactive - need advice!!!

  i've been wanting to share some recent events involving my family for a while.

  i'm interested in any input or advice any of you may have to offer.

  it's just been a very weird last couple of weeks.... through a chance set of circumstances i have begun communicating with my younger sister (she is 21).

  It is a very tough situation. The hardest thing is to deal with the guilt, both your mother and the WTS are using guilt to try to manipulate the feelings and actions of you and your sister. Whatever happens you need to try to make your sister realise she is not the guilty one, and needs to live her own life.

  As your sister is inactive I would recommend that you don't need to talk 'apostate' to her. Help her fade and move, and then over time you can slowly help her break free mentally as well. You have only just got a relationship started again and it is not worth risking it.

  I was amazed to find the number of moral people once i left the WTS. I have a lot of Christian Filipino friends and many are more moral than my JW friends, she will find that too once she is out of the circle.

  I cant get over the number of JWs on prescription medication, especially mothers. All the articles saying how JWs are the happiest people on earth, if really seem to be one of the most stressed groups.

  how to behave in judical committee? pls help

  it seems that some of you are serving or have been serving as elders and have judical committee experience (stillajwexelder for example).

  i want to know how i must behave in jc meeting to avoid disfellowshipping.

  billyboy was right, the elders do not want to d/f people for things like porneia so if you act really sorry, as you sound you are, you will generally get away with it. If you are really worried about the other sister approach the sister and then go together, say you were both feeling guilty and discussed it and felt you needed to confess. That way you should both be able to get off.

  On the other hand, I know for a fact that Holy Spirit does not direct the WTS. I know brothers that have been habitually committing sins for up to 20 years and still have not been caught. I know brothers appointed as elders whilst committing fornication. So you would be better forgetting about it and moving on with you life.

  Better still, research the Watchtower history and see the number of mistakes that the Governing Body has made. The number of failed time prophecies. That they have made substantial changes in doctrine such as worshipping Jesus up until the 1950's. Read the posts here and sites like jwfacts.com. It is not worth ruining your life over the guilt of a religion that is not truly following the word of God.

  Billyboy maybe you should start being honest with yourself as well and think whether you are interested in truth, or will do anything it takes to prove you have 'The Truth', regardless of the facts.

  Saved by grace or by works?

  according to the wts if we do not produce acts of good work (feild service, attending 5 meetings weekly, circuit and district assemblies etc), we are not worthy of salvation.

  according to the bible, we attain salvation through god's undeserved grace ( or kindness in jw lingo).

  what i am looking for is scriptural proof that will shoot down the first and support the latter.

  There is no proof to 'shoot down' anyones beliefs. No matter what you argue a JW will only listen to reasoning from the Governing Body regardless of whether or not it makes sense. The belief in the GB as God's slave must be proven wrong before a discussion about faith will make any difference.

  When he said let us make Man in Our image?

  who was he really talking to, i know jws believe it was jesus but it has puzzled me my whole life because i believed jesus had to have had a mother.

  if he is saying let us make mankind in our image he then created two different beings a man and a woman, where does the image of the woman come from, how, why and from whose image are woman from, her body shape, voice sounding softer, and so on?.

  sure i understand the whole rib thing but it goes to reason that there had to be some other being besides jesus he was speaking to, other wise mans companion would have naturally been another man, because the image of jesus is a man and the image of god is also manly.
