are the charges in a tract against jehovahs witnesses true that the societys first president was immoral, profiteered from selling some mysteriously named wheat at $65 a bushel, and committed perjury when asked in court if he could read greek?
This is very interesting. The QFR states that they were selling for $1 a bushel, yet the newspaper claims it was $60.
Does anyone know if a good write up exists explaining the entire situation? Why was Russell interested in selling Miracle Wheat a year before Aramageddon?
It peaked at over 350,000 a year in 1997 and has declined to around 250,000 a year now.

I arrived back from a year of travelling and confessed to a JC about all the wrong I had done. I then told them every thing they wanted to hear about how repentant I was, and was not disfellowshipped. In the meeting I realised that I didn't really believe anymore and that I wasn't in the slightest bit sorry for anything I had done. That moment cemented for me that holy spirit had nothing to do with the religion.
nearly everyday their is someone new coming on this board that has learned ttatt .and this site is only one of many that reach out to jw`s in the hope of setting them free.also many people just leave the organisation without ever posting on any of these sites , then coupled with the amount of disfellowshiped and disascociated ones, the figure must be quite extroardinary to say the least .i dont suppose their is any way of quantifying that though is their.just curious.. smiddy.

After removing the death rate it is a more realistic figure.

i just wonder how much knowledge of this income stream the average rank & file jw member is aware of when they are increasingly called on to pay for the wtbts building projects..

What a cop out. They say a head covering is God's requirement, but because it makes them look like fools they opt out on the doorstep, before a publisher has had the chance to be somewhat indoctrinated.
i would have to say that ray franz was the biggest influence for me.. when i first got on this board, a poster by the name of james, a former bethelite and organization heavy, helped me understand a lot of the inner workings in the upper echelons of the society.. .
and of course, farkel's common sense approach was (usually) helpful..

I worked out the Watchtower was not the truth through independant research, but got stuck with what to do next, and spent a lot of time in that state. The first site I came across that helped with the next steps was a site by Timothy Campbell called BeyondJW. Sadly it does not exist anymore, as I remember being overwhelmed with gratitude as I read through the site. I have copied some of the articles and posted them at jwfacts.com.
From there I found jehovahs-witness.com and then Franz's books.

if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

The most surprising result of the election is that the third most votes went to the Liberal Democratic Party, ahead of the Greens in the Senate. They have 20% of the votes of the Liberal party, most of which were unintentional due to their appearing first on the ballot paper. Their preferences are going to Pauline Hanson, so this misdirection will have an important affect on the outcome in the senate.
