It reminds me of when I worked part time for an elder doing some construction work when I was a pioneer. He said he was shocked at how hard I worked, as all the other pioneers that worked for him were so lazy. He thought pioneers only did so because they were trying to get out of full time work.

Not on jw.org - comments regarding bad Jehovah's Witness employees
by jwfacts ini used to be very impressed with convention experiences regarding how worldly employers would hire jws because they were known as the most honest workers.
i was too indoctrinated to realise these were selective experiences, and there are plenty of experiences of jws being dishonest in the workforce.
i have received a couple recently by email.. i have cut quite a bit out of the following email i received so that the person and company cannot be indentified, but you will get the message.. .

Phizzy - There is real danger in employing too many of them, one JW I know got DF'd and 99% of his JW employess walked out that day!
That is a very real danger for any JW. I guess most do not expect to get disfellowshipped, but it can happen to anyone. It is a good warning for anyone fading that is reading this and employs JWs.
The other problem of having too many JW employees is they all expect to have the conventions and special months as holidays at the same time.

I fired an employee who is a member of the JW’s because I could no longer trust her integrity to carry out her duties without passive aggressively bad mouthing and undermining me behind my back. There were many incidents which I do not want to list here and take too much of your time to read.
Because of her strong JW association, out of respect for her religion, I no longer had office celebrations such as birthdays, Christmas parties, and other “religious” celebrations. ... She then proceeded to threaten me by saying she will drag my good name through the mud. All the allegations she made about me are false. She filed a complaint saying she was discriminated due to her religion, which is entirely false, since in the past, I have hired JWs.

Regarding whether he will get a resurrection, the latest is that no one can really know.
"Still, if a Christian minister is asked to preside at the funeral, he may feel that on a private basis, he can do so. If he decides to do so, he should be discreet in not making any firm statements about whether a resurrection might be possible. Any future prospect for the dead is in the hands of Jehovah, and no one is in a position to say whether the deceased will be resurrected or not. The minister can concentrate on the Bible truths about death and offer comfort for the bereaved." w02 6/15 pp. 30-31

Sick, but sadly logical in their warped world view.

Can anyone disprove 607 BCE date using only the NWT and WT literature?
by Bart Belteshassur ini haven't come across any arguement that does not involve secular history and external references.
in fact the wt can not get to 607 bce without using external sources as in knowing that they need to get back from 1914 ce to 607 bce, and botching an argument using an external date as reference to create their start point at 537 bce.. i realize that to get the final date we must provide a fixed figure from somewhere which can only be a historical source, but the objective would be to disprove the wt flim flam.
once that is achieve we can use which ever fixed historical point they wish to chose.

I don't see where you are going with all this. If JWs cared if 607 was correct, then secular proof is enough, since secular proof is required for 539, upon which 607 is based. Their belief is not based on logic, it is based on the want to believe regardless of logic.
"It is important to understand that in most Bible-based cults, although the member is aggressively taught doctrine, it is not the doctrine that holds him in the group. It is the sense that the group is God's true people, a feeling cultivated by techniques of mind control. Thus, to engage the cult member in a Biblical argument or discussion is often futile." Stephen Hassan, Releasing the Bonds p.145
JWs are not in it for the doctrine. They are in it for friends, for Jehovah, for paradise. No amount of Scripture will convince them that the Governing Body is wrong whilst they want to believe it.

Did the organization admit declining growth and stagnation in today's watchtower?
by kneehighmiah indid anyone catch this quote?
"over seven and a half million witnesses of jehovah really have found him and they truly love him.".
why are they no longer touting "nearly 8 million" witnesses?

They are referring to average publishers, which is a more accurate figure. Peak publishers includes double counting such as when a publisher may put in more than one report for months they missed. Maybe they are worried about being deceitful and pulled up online about it.

I hate being so angry about shunning.
by quellycatface insince i kicked up a fight regarding shunning at my local supermarket, i am still angry.
because, only this morning i received a look of contempt from one of my ex-friends/sister.. i really feel like telling her what i think of her behaviour but i guess that would only enforce the "persecution complex"!!!!.
just venting.

Just smile big and wave; go up and say something complimentary even if it is from the past.
I did that to a friend. I saw her in a coffee shop so went a sat with her and chatted for a while. She said "I knew you'd come and talk to me." I said "I don't believe what the religion teaches, particularly about shunning." I talked for a while, but not long enough for it to get too uncomfortable.
It works for some people, but I've had others run for their lives. But when they do that, it is hilarious, and I can laugh at their patheticness. Taking the upper hand takes away their power and their contempt turns to embarrassment.

Contradictory geneology of Jesus
by rebel8 inso i'm reading another carl sagan book and he seems to invariably find a way to slam j-dubs in each one.
(i can't say i blame him.).
anyway, in this one he discusses the fact that the gospels give contradictory geneologies of jesus--differing lines back to david from joseph, and a different number of generations.
-
jwfacts
If I recall correctly, the Watchtower claims one was Joseph's line and the other was Mary's line.
Also, he mentions the geneology should trace back to Mary, since she was his bio mom, not Joseph.
Exactly. It shows the sexism of the Bible that Joseph's line is included, as he is in no way relevant to Jesus being in the line of David.
If you look at some of those generations as two groups that overlap, it all makes perfect sense.
LOL, the old overlapping generation trick.

Hubby's tempted to go back

he's talking about returning but can't figure out a way to do it without enduring a fair amount of humiliation.
i did not panic.

He has not been out for long. It took me several years before the fears about maybe it was right stopped rearing its ugly head, or that it was not the truth but I missed my friends. Lucky for me, being disfellowshipped made it a lot harder to return, which gave me enough time to snap back to reality. Hopefully he does not do anything rash in these early days. Find excuses to stop him going back to the hall just long enough from the indoctrination to dissipate.
