Elder's letter requesting details of solicitors, barristers and accountants
by jwfacts inthere was a letter sent to elders in australia on 18th november 2015 asking for details of publishers that are solicitors, barristers and accountants.
what would be their motive for these details?
the rest of the letter outlines 8 specific pieces of information to compile and send to bethel's legal department, and reiterates to collect the information only be "as you understand, without consulting the publisher.

The questions include standard personal details, secular qualifications and spiritual status. Their spiritual status regards the baptism date, level of publishing activity, and maturity of them and their family. It particular asks as to their humility and willingness to accept counsel, direction and theocratic arrangement.
It appears they are looking for some "company men" (and women in this case) that will assist without asking too many questions, and are indoctrinated enough not to have their faith shaken by the shocking mistreatment of abused Witness children.

There is irony in Watchtower searching for educated, qualified publishers after strongly discouraging such education. They specifically request CPA's and Chartered Accountants, which require participating in ongoing courses and exams to retain that status.

ATT: WARNING
by EJ257 inplease be aware of everything that is happening around the world at this moment in time.
this goes to anyone, ex-communicated, removed, serving, believer and non.
at this point in my observations i have realized many religions/ideologies know there is some sort "end of time" or a transition into a new order of living in this earth.

Read some history. We are in a period more peaceful that almost any other time and with far better human rights.
There are still a portion of the world that endures terrible suffering, but it is distasteful how unappreciative people the complainers are of what they have, since most doomsday preachers are not the ones that are even affected by these world conditions.

Why does the Watchtower leadership slap its own defenders in the face?
by slimboyfat intake the case of rolf furuli.
i don't think there has been a specific thread on the hebrew verbs u-turn in the nwt, and how the society has responded to the work of perhaps their brightest and ablest defender in their history.
so here goes.. rolf furuli has defended jws on multiple fronts in many different settings, on issues ranging from chronology, mental health, doctrines, bible translation and the blood issue.

On this thread there was also mention of who comprised the new NWT translation committee. Do you know of any confirmatory evidence Jackson was involved?
I have not received any confirmation that Jackson was involved, but I agree with your comment that he was mostly likely involved, and actively so. Jackson worked in Watchtower translation for decades and made a name for himself by releasing the first Tuvaluan dictionary. He was called to New York in 2003 to do translation work, and now is involved with the writing, teaching and personnel committees. As one of the most experienced translators Watchtower has, it follows he would have been key to the project.
Considering the time involved in releasing a new edition of a Bible translation, I wonder if by 2003 plans were already in place for a new edition, and he was called to New York with a view to being involved with the translation, or alternatively if it was Jackson himself that suggested it after arriving in New York.
Hopefully there are members on this board that were at Bethel at the time with further insight into the NWT translation committee.

Excellent thread. I wonder how Furuli feels about the lack of recognition, the subsequent changes to the NWT, and the affect this has on his faith.
At When Was Ancient Jerusalem Destroyed? Carl Olof Jonsson shows that Furuli has been referenced in Watchtower letters and his works were the basis for the 2011 information on 607. If 607 were to be change, it would be interesting to know if Furuli would continue to remain a Watchtower follower?

What is the monthly stipend that the bethelites receive every month?
by StephaneLaliberte inwhat is the monthly stipend that the bethelites receive every month?
does any one has an actual number?
-

The reason for some of the contradiction in figures is that the amount varies by person. There is a monthly allowance, an annual allowance that is different depending on a person's age, and potentially a car allowance. I do not know the current figures, but it would average out somewhere between $150 to $250 per month.

Hypocrisy of JW Thinking After Tragedy Like Paris
by freemindfade init never has ceased to boggle my mind how twisted up jw thinking is.
when they see something like what happened in paris, in person they will express how sad and detestable it is quickly followed by "this is why we need the kingdom, and the desert god is gonna fix everything.
" here is where i get perplexed.

It just hit me, that going by this logic, JWs should instead be hoping that large amounts of people be killed now, so that at least they have a chance to live in pariah - dice.
Except they also need to believe that worldly people are so evil that they deserve to die at Armageddon, so it becomes a bit of a catch 22.

83,000 theocratic facilites?
by average joe ina bethelite was telling me that there are 83,000 theocratic facilities world wide.
he compared that to 35,000 mcdonalds and 21,000 starbucks roughly to show the size of the theocratic organization.
i am not sure where the 83,000 comes from what would he be counting?

If size counts why compare it to a restaurant chain and not the Catholic Church. -

What an incredible quote, claiming these books to be revelations of truth. And then they say out the other side of their mouths that are not inspired.
