The last video in the 2016 convention...
by problemaddict 2 in...is an epic triumph is emotional manipulation.
bringing together all of the stories they told thus far and placing them int he "new world" complete with the little boy who was killed in a car accident coming back from the dead.. i have a good friend who is stuck in with family and plays the role.
he said everyone was crying, and the people next to him rated the videos by how many tissues they needed to dry their eyes.

ProblemAddict - JWfacts I thought the same. billion of people, but apparently the world is still empty. Unless his kid is the first to be resurrected.
Even if he is the first kid resurrected, the pictures are totally unrealistic. Immediately after Armageddon the world will be filled with decaying dead bodies and this world's existing infrastructure, in various states of decay and destruction. This would take decades if not hundreds of years to disappear, by which time the earth should be filled with billions of resurrected people. These scenes show to what a grand extent JWs deceive themselves as to the reality of the belief for the future.

You have to love that despite Jehovah having to raise 100 billion people from the dead, there is still almost no humans in any of the scenes. Endless miles of beautiful forest, without a single human, road or house in sight.

JWs Letters Target Recently Bereaved
by steve2 incurrent media attention in new zealand is focusing on the case of a woman whose male friend died three months.
she received a handwritten letter personally addressed to her and her deceased friend with a series of questions about what happens after death.
the woman was furious and, accompanied by news media, door-knocked the address provided by the letter writer.

Heather Henare, from grief counselling service Skylight, was not aware of any cases of religions targeting grieving people, but people in grief were more susceptible to sales pitches.
"It is a time, unfortunately, people take advantage of people."
This quote from the article nicely sums up the situation.

Cover of the September 2016 Watchtower.
by jwfacts inthe cover of the 2016 september watchtower has an islander couple preaching.
the brother looks like he may be fijian in a traditional skirt standing in a river, doing a presentation on an apple ipad.
i can't imagine there are many families that can afford an ipad in the pacific islands.

I wonder if he wears the skirt on the platform? There used to be a Fijian brother in my congregation in Sydney that would wear the traditional skirt to the meetings sometimes. I can't remember him wearing on the platform though.

Does Watchtower have any bulk purchase deal with Apple? Can iPads be purchased through congregations at a discount or does everyone have to obtain their own at list price?

I heard a lot of stories from New Guinea where they had to have security in the car park during the meetings. Even then cars would get stolen. This cover is probably more to imrpress American JWs than a realistic depiction of life in poorer countries.

Confusing Opinions with Facts
by cofty inin a discussion about the best flavour of ice cream everybody's opinion is equally valid.. in a discussion about the shape of the earth or the origin of species everybody's opinion is equally irrelevant.
only objective facts and evidence matter.. confusing these two categories is a common feature of conversations in this forum.
people deserve respect, errors do not..

I think it needs to keep being reiterated that evolution is different to abiogenesis. The origins of life are far less understood but there is amble evidence for evolution. It seems few people understand the difference.

I can't imagine there are many families that can afford an IPad in the Pacific islands. I wonder how this is received by the locals. Does this attract them to the religion or make it seem even more disconnected from reality.

Help needed: transgender people and other unclear topics
by TeaBiscuit infirst of all, i am not quite sure whether this is the right place to ask my questions.
if this is not really appropriate, please tell me in advance, but i really did not know who to turn to, so i thought why not ask the internet... now, i know many of you are apostates and i'm not really looking for "leave it all behind you" answers, but really for experiences, thoughts and ideas... as well as maybe some verses if you can think of any.. anyway, first things first.
since this is very anonymous and i'd like to keep it that way, i will not give you my name, but still, i think some background info might be helpful.

Welcome teabiscuit.
I have addressed this topic at http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/homosexuality-gay-jehovahs-witnesses.php
To get baptised you are expected to go back to your "biological" gender.
“Mutilating the sex organs, such as having the male organ surgically removed and an artificial female organ created, does not change the facts or make the person into the opposite sex. Someone desiring to be baptized who has already undergone a mutilating operation of this sort (a transsexual) would be expected to take his or her place in life in accord with what the individual biologically is, not in accord with what the person has been mutilated to appear to be. This may even require that the person leave a “mate” to whom the person is “married,” since the mutilated one is actually (biologically) of the same sex as the “mate.””Correspondence Guidelines (2011) p.98
You really need to get out of that religion as quick as possible for your own mental heath. You do not need to join a high control religion to worship Jehovah, particularly one that refers to you as depraved and mutilated.
My best friend is an exJW and transgender. If you ever are in Sydney Australia it would be nice to meet up.
