Yes, i just posted about Geoff ?Jeff. He is a fantastic person, really funny. I would like to see what he does to the GB. I studied with his Father in Law when i was a teenager. His wife is very sweet, one of the gentlest people I have ever known. He is a Tasmanian. Special pioneered on Tuvalu, wrote the first Tuvaluan dictionary, was a personal friend of the King of Tuvalu. He went on to be in the Fijian Branch committee.

Do you still use Jehovah's name in prayer assuming you still pray?
by JH in.
if you do pray, will you use the name that's above all other names....says the watchtower.. if not, what name do you use?.

Praying is now quite strange to me, as i don't quite know what i believe of who God is. The few times i have prayed i like to use the term creator or father.

He has a great sense of humour, and is very intelligent.
I really see the religion changing over the next 20 years. There will be a lot of softening of doctrine and eventually the religion will become more mainstream. The last release 'what does the bible really teach' is written in a very broad and soft way. -

What is the bible saying about a soul and a spirit
by jwfacts ini am not sure i believe the bible, but am still trying to come to terms with whether we have a soul or spirit that goes on after death.
i am also interested in seeing how the bible is similar/different than other religions.
i have done research on the web in regards to what the bible says a soul is and get a variety of fairly different and generally not well presented ideas.. as a witness obviously we are taught that we are the only religion teaching truth and our concept differs from virtually all other religions.

Interesting answer. I am tending to agree with you. The reason there are 30000 Christian sects is that there is 30000 ways of interpretting the bible. On almost every subject i research there is a plethora of different scriptures that conflict on many points.
A religion starts with a predifined basic belief on each point. They accept the scriptures that support their belief and explain away the scriptures that don't.

Is Clairvoyance evil or a human trait?
by Amazing1914 inthe society taught that psychic ability and clairvoyance were of satan and the demons.
they equated these characteristics as unchristian and to be avoided.
therefore, they are linked to ouiji board, wiccan activities, and even the seer that saul visited to conjure up samuel in a vision.

I went to a clairvoyant on the week end for the first time and it was an amazing experience. I had it taped to see if I was leading the conversation in any way, and spoke very little through the whole session. I can not decide what i believe about it, but I was told a lot of incredibly intuitive information and some very wise things.
I have noticed psychics are very much into being good people, doing good and worshipping a creator. Not at all like the satanic occultists that the witnesses talk about.
I find it difficult to accept fortune telling. However there is some substance to being able to pick up memories and knowledge from our energy and auras. Even many witnesses indulge in such things when using homeopathic medicine, I know countless witnesses very involved with it. Homeopathy contains none of the original herb but works off only the energy of the herb that remains in the alcohol.

Could You Stay Friends With Someone Who Visited Prostitutes?
by Englishman ina while back, an aquaintance of mine told me that he liked to visit prostitutes.
although we weren't that close, i'd worked on and off with him over the years.
i knew his wife too and would often see her around town.. he'd told me that when he had something to celebrate, like his birthday or maybe a commercial win, he and a pal of his would do the pubs and clubs first and then go kerb crawling until they found a pair of street girls who would play the swopsy's scene.

If you find you do not enjoy his company and do not have things in common it is no point pursuing the friendship. But I do not think it is necessary to judge what others do, that is like being a Witness.

An Unbeliever's Guide to Believing the Bible
by thinker injws believe the bible is god's word and that every word in it comes from god.
it's a waste of time to try to disprove the bible based on science or any source outside the bible, because they just don't stand up to something someone believes came from god himself.
so i've decided to use all that i've learned from jws about the bible to show them that they can't trust everything in the bible.

"Our Father Which Art In Heaven"
by Hellrider in...hallowed be thy name.
thy kingdom come.
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

There are a couple of reasons witnesses do not like this prayer. One already mentioned is that we are to pray to our 'father' and not 'Jehovah'. Jesus never once is recorded as using the word Jehovah. There has not been found a single fragment of NT where the word Jehovah appears. Jesus always said Lord or Father.
Aother reason is that it says 'thy will be done on earth AS IN HEAVEN'. This implies Gods will was already done in heaven in Jesus day. It did not take another 1900 years for this will to take place in heaven.
The prayer raises curly questions for Witness doctrine.

The idea being we are a soul, we die, Jah chooses if he wants to resurect us at which state we are a soul again. Spirit is just some somewhat meaningless thing.
Does anyone have any interesting ideas on what the difference between a soul and spirit is, along with scriptual backing? Or is there any well researched articles you can direct me to on the web?
Thanks - Paul

One thing i have never seen the watchtower discuss is the ontological and economic differences in the trinity, yet they are crucial to understanding it. The trinity doctrine states that though they are ontologically the same they are economically different. Economically the father is greater than the son, yet this does not make the father greater overall. That is why Jesus called the father his head. To illstrate, the president is economically greater than me due to his job, but that does not make him greater than me as a person.
This ontology/economy debate is how the idea of trinity is able rectify the father/son/HS having different roles and positions yet still being the same in power/eternity etc.
