Yes, if the org claimed to be like any other group of people it is somewhat acceptable to have wrong ideas based on those held by the rest of society. But to claim to be Gods Only Channel on earth means that Org must get its doctrines right. I consider it blasphemous to use Gods name (even if it was 100 years ago) to promote shocking doctrine such as black people being inferior in any way.
It is true that JWs are to be commended for their lack of racism today. But in subtle ways they are still racist. I have been in aboriginal and islander congregations where there are very few black brothers with 'privileges' because they do not conform to Western ideals of punctuality, regularity and education. Due to having limited access to education in many remote areas their level of reading skills rule them out from ever being elders, as if fluency is of more importance to Jesus than compassion and caring for the flock.

Does anyone remember the thread or what the link is?

Did you gain anything, for being a JW all those years?
by JH in.

I think life is a wonderful experience that is based around learning and growing, and I think I would be fundamentally the same person regardless of being a JW or not. I have had good and bad things happen in life and after the situations are over there is growth as a person, I think that is important. Therefore I do not resent having been a JW, though feeling the Org is shameless in it's wrongful manipulation of people.

I think the WTBTS is wrong to include women with the 144k kings and priests class .
Good point. The Jewish system did not allow for female kings, and Rev does say that the 144k do not defile themselves with women, so it is logical that when John refers to heavenly kings they would be male.
There is certainly no mention in the bible that only 144k go to heaven, but rather that the 144k are the ruling class. The rest of those believing in Jesus, men and women alike would go to heaven as the subjects. As Hebrews says, even Abraham looked forward to going to heaven. -

it is true they have a couple of vague scriptural reasonings. But even the WTS admits that the NT was written primarily for the 144k. Why? Because virtually everything in it points to all Christians being spirit anointed.

serendipity said "I learned to be comfortable and even celebrate my uniqueness - cuz let's face it, JWs are different."
I used to think that was a positive whilst I was a JW. Now that i am not a JW I still feel "unique" or "a misfit" and just wish I knew whether i would feel normal if i hadn't been raised a JW. -

I remember being told it was a good sign when there was no growth, it meant all the sheep had been found so the rest deserved to be slaughtered by Jehovah (though the word slaughtered was never used). It is so obvious that the methods of the JW's are out of touch and do not work. If they really loved their neighbour as told by Jesus they would be involved in charities etc. Then they would produce meaningful results and also help people. In 2004 the Baptists converted 600,000 people outside of the US, over 3 times that of the JWs. The figures speak for themselves.

Does it really put it in that order? How can it possibly be Christian to quit your job before finding another one? If he is responsible, and particularly if he has a family surely the scripture
(1 Timothy 5:8) 8 Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith.
comes before providing for the congregation. -

oh wow, Jimi Hendrix, that will be awesome, shame he'll only be able to play kingdom melodies on an acoustic guitar.
Actually, they'll regret not having any decent music to listen to at all.
Which reminds me of another bethel story. When I was in bethel one of the bethel elders came to me for a part he had on bad music that some brothers were listening to in the bethel house. He asked me to mixed up a minute of music for him to play in a lecture, starting with acceptable music and ending with unacceptable music, so people could clearly hear the difference. I started with Kingdom melodies, moved on to classical, then Kenny G, then into the hard core techno and ended with some heavy metal including the F*** word (after assuring him it was not from my collection of music). It was fantastic, the look of shock on the oldies faces, as this was on a Monday night in the Bethel kingdom hall. I don't know what the talk achieved as a few brothers were kicked out anyway for not getting rid of their music, but it certainly got everyone talking.
