Good question greendawn. I raised a similar one with my auntie. She is angry that i spoke about my feelings on the WTS to my cousin, who is having doubts. I asked her what you raised. He has been indoctrinated almost daily for 30 years. If one 2 hour conversation is able to undo all of that it must raise serious questions about the truthfulness of it all.

The WTS 's fear of the internet
by greendawn inthey pressured their own followers into not setting up websites to promote the jw religion, they have demonised the internet as if on every webpage there is someone ready to destroy the faith of a jw, and they are monitoring websites that are hostile to them to see if they can find ways to legally close them down.
.
why do they fear the net so much if they have the truth as they like to parrot so often?

Number crunching - the impact of the net
by Lady Lee inyesterday i noticed that there were at least 3 newbies who signed up and posted.
almost every day we have at least 1 new person sign up and post.
that of course doesn't include those who sign up and don't post.. i've read numbers that stated it took so many hours of witnessing to make 1 baptized jw.
-
jwfacts
In Cristian Freedom it stated (off the top of my head in round figures) that in the 1960's there was one baptism for every 1500 hours of preaching. in the 1980's it was 1 baptism for every 3000 hours. This year it was 1:5161 hours.
The stats are really worse than that because so many have left that the overall increase was very minor. The average pubs increased by only 81000 despite 247000 being baptised. That means that 1.28 billion hours spent witnessing resulted in an increase of only 81k people overall, or ....wait for it ...
15,800 hours witnessing for 1 publisher increase
OR 131 average publisher years per increase in pub.
What an incredible waste of time. If less time was wasted doorknocking and more time spent helping others in the congregations the growth could possibly be better.
The internet is having a great effect. YEH
Do you think the JWs can get over 7 million average publishers, or will the drop off be greater than the increase before it gets to that number? -

Scarce at the kingdom hall
by justice for all ini heard that it was scarce at the kingdom hall last thursday night.
the speaker was asking those in attendance to look around and see who was missing and to call them and encourage them to come back to the meetings.
interesting huh?

Immigrants also welcome the opportunity to be taught English and how to read. It is a shame they are indoctrinated while having their Engrish lessons.

The queen mother will die
Armageddon will come
No one will survive because God said he will only save people if they belong to a religion after his name and he couldn't find a single Yahweh's Witness.

A Letter I Feel I Should Share.
by Apostanator inthere are many here who have been shunned or dis-owned by family members who are jehovah's witnesses.
the pain, hurt and agony over this treatment wreaks havock in our lives and at times to the point of being unbearable.
after much deliberation and thought i came to the conclusion that for me to be able to "move on" in my own life i needed to express my feelings and be heard on some level by my family.

That is a well written letter and heartbreaking. How does an organisation become so powerful that it can make family members heartless?

You do not say if you believe it is the truth. That will make a big difference. If she believes and you don't then you have a long and hard road ahead of you by staying together. The two of you need to work out where you both stand on a lot of issues. You are better breaking off than being stuck with the wrong person.
Now you both are d/f it is worth sitting down together and learning as much as you can about to org and finding out if both of you really want to go back. If both of you determine it is not the truth, then you may find it builds your relationship and she is more willing to stand by you.

I too feel that the religion Russell had in mind was far better than how it ended up after Rutherfords perversion of it.
Now you are out your understanding of some things you mentioned is likely to change as you start to learn more about both sides of the story.
I believe it is hard to leave, not because the JWs are nice, but rather that they conform most closely to the standards of right and wrong that the Watchtower constantly indoctrinates its members to believe is right and wrong. Once you step away a lot of the behaviour that seemed righteous becomes irrelevant, unrighteous, even evil. i.e. shunning. knocking on empty doors rather than forming charities and preaching to everyone everywhere.
I find obesity an interesting issue. A JW will condemn a smoker but not an obese person. However the bible speaks far more directly about gluttony and greediness than smoking. A seriously obese person has a lower life expectancy than a smoker. This is a WTS illogical double standard. So when a JW believes other relgions are bad because they allow smoking they show their standards are not their own but that of the WTS.

Pagan, What's pagan??? Everything is pagan, a cat, a wedding ring, everything is to someone. It is a lame excuse made to separate JWs from everyone else.
Remember that for half it's history the WTS celebrated Christmas despite it being pagan. Something is only pagan if that is what someone thinks it is. A Christian does not think it pagan, does not think of winter solists and evergreen trees waking the sun. What they worship is the birth of the Son of God. How is that pagan? -

What are you REALLY like?
by jwfacts init is strange chatting on the net, not knowing what everyone is really like.
do you pretend to be someone you are not?
i find it hard to know how to take people here sometimes, as words do not convey as much without seeing the facial expressions and hearing the tonal inflections.
