I used to feel guilty throwing out watchtowers. Now whenever i get hold of one i enjoy sacrificing it to the rubbish bin.

What Sis.BrokenByBethel is Allowed to Do with her Overstocked Magazine Pile
by stillAwitness inha!
this one made me think of all those in the hall who have magazines piled up in their living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms with no where to go:
km: dec. 2005: make wise use of our bible-based literature

Have you converted?
by Clam inobviously some of you have been responsible for converting people to the jw religion.
now that youve left, do you ever feel responsible for these people in any way?
theres no reason why you should i suppose but im interested from a human angle.

BTW, welcome Clam. I just read your profile and found it very interesting. I wish it was possible to collect statistics of the number of JWs that have died from refusing blood.

I converted one person from the door to door, but they got disfellowshipped a few years later, so i feel somewhat guilty for the negative affect i had on her life.
Several kids in the org studied with me, one is of the same mind i am at now, and the others are all fairly slack as JW's, so i am happy for that.
I have sucessfully helped a number of JW's leave in the last few months, and am happy to think that has made up for any damage I may have done to others in the past. I think more people have left with my assistance in 6 months than my entire family converted in 30 years. At this rate, and the help of sites like this i am very confident the WTS will be struggling greatly within the next 10 years.

Blood and Pumpkins
by Woodsman ini heard a witness once claim that accepting blood fractions according to the wts's method of dividing up blood cells was ok because it is no longer considered blood once these fractions are removed.. well is there pumpkin in a pumpkin pie?.
everyone should agree there is.
yet it is not the whole pumpkin but a fraction.

That is a great illustration. The blood policy is a joke, and if anything proves the WTS is way off track it is this. It is illogical, unscriptural, changes regularly over time and the Watchtower lies to support it.
Shame Honesty is correct when showing they just ignore any sensible reasoning.

Can I pick your brain?
by nerofiddle inim looking for your help with an issue.
although im agnostic and not a bible believer, im currently having regular visits/discussions with a couple of jw elders.
im fully aware of the jw doctrine that christ is a created being and im familiar with scriptural texts and the reasoning they use in support of that claim.

The elders will point you to
(Colossians 1:16) . . .All [other] things have been created through him and for him.
Notice the shameless addition of the word [other] as justification of their belief. JWs interpret the bible around their beliefs, rather than use the bible to form beliefs. Due to cult indoctrination nothing you say can make a difference to what they think, so you are probably wasting your time with them. The only way to get anywhere is to first undermine the authority of the Governing Body.

Help --Pre-JW Faithful and Discreet Slave??
by lynnmelo inhi, folks.
for those who may not remember my previous posts, i'm someone who has been studying with the jw's for about two years but didn't commit (i.e., get baptized) because, as i thought then, i was just too selfish and cowardly to join up with the jw's.
that's before i found this site and watched the dateline video on the child molestation problem.

There was no F&D slave before the JWs, and they are unable to consisently point to any.
There are groups referred to by the Watchtower from time to time. The Waldenses, Cathari, Albigenses, Huguenots, Minor Brethern (Socianians). But in total they only lasted a few hundred years and are different to JWs is many serious areas.
Ask your conductor who passed the mantle to Russell. They are unable to find an F&D slave even 150 years ago.

I have a Question?
by Third Eye Open inhi everyone, i am supposed to meet with an elder tonight.
i met several times with him before going over questions (my mother thinks he will restore my evil thinking).
anyway we have already gone over all of the basics (1874,1914,607 no answer for this one, the un and everything else).

Welcome third eye, yours is an interesting story.
As you said, you are really happy being able to finally think. You will be even more happy once you are finally free, so dont worry, it gets better from here.
I would recommend not talking to the elder. You can not change a cult leader until they want to change. They have too much to loose to be honest with themselves.
I have come to believe that in most areas that JWs differ from mainstream Christianity they are wrong. It is possibly worth you reading In Search of Christian Freedom by Franz as this discusses why some of the unique teachings are wrong. The Trinity is one teaching that is impossible to prove either way. There are good arguments for both sides. Franz doesn't discuss the Trinity but in a letter he sent to me he did say he does not believe in the Trinity.
Welcome white rice. This forum is really for exJW's and anyone wanting to know the truth about the WTS. It gives you another perspective after being subjected to years of one sided indoctrination.

The WTS claims all three refer to the Father who they call Jehovah. Below is the reasoning used from the Reasoning book. It takes quite a bit of theological gymnastics to make Rev 22:12,13 refer to Jehovah, but a JW will do anything to support a preconceived doctrine, rather than let the bible speak for itself. Good luck trying to convert a JW on the Trinity, it is almost impossible while they believe in the Watchtower Society.

rs p. 412 par. 3 Trinity ***Alpha
and Omega: To whom does this title properly belong? (1) At Revelation 1:8, its owner is said to be God, the Almighty. In verse 11 according to KJ, that title is applied to one whose description thereafter shows him to be Jesus Christ. But scholars recognize the reference to Alpha and Omega in verse 11 to be spurious, and so it does not appear in RS, NE, JB, NAB, Dy. (2) Many translations of Revelation into Hebrew recognize that the one described in verse 8 is Jehovah, and so they restore the personal name of God there. See NW, 1984 Reference edition. (3) Revelation 21:6, 7 indicates that Christians who are spiritual conquerors are to be ‘sons’ of the one known as the Alpha and the Omega. That is never said of the relationship of spirit-anointed Christians to Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke of them as his ‘brothers.’ (Heb. 2:11; Matt. 12:50; 25:40) But those ‘brothers’ of Jesus are referred to as "sons of God." (Gal. 3:26; 4:6) (4) At Revelation 22:12, TEV inserts the name Jesus, so the reference to Alpha and Omega in verse 13 is made to appear to apply to him. But the name Jesus does not appear there in Greek, and other translations do not include it. (5) At Revelation 22:13, the Alpha and Omega is also said to be "the first and the last," which expression is applied to Jesus at Revelation 1:17, 18. Similarly, the expression "apostle" is applied both to Jesus Christ and to certain ones of his followers. But that does not prove that they are the same person or are of equal rank, does it? (Heb. 3:1) So the evidence points to the conclusion that the title "Alpha and Omega" applies to Almighty God, the Father, not to the Son. -

That was incredible. I don't know how anyone in your congregation could read such logical information and still believe it is the Truff.
I have a friend who is 17 and not baptised, but the mother has just said if she does not go to meetings she will kick her out of home. The girl knows the WTS is wrong but does not know how to explain it. If you don't mind I would love to give her your letter as it will help her explain her feelings.

Hi Peachy, I love confrontation so this is what i would do.
Next time you see them go up to them as say you dont like being shunned or glared at. You are willing to overlook their bad practices provided they treat you with common respect. However, if they do not show respect you will alert the elders of their behaviour so that they too can understand the feeling of being shunned.
That will induce a huge amount of panic in them. Blackmail? I'm sure there must be a better term for it.
